I've been watching the star trek shows in order (currently on TNG season 6), and one of the most iconic aspects of the shows is how orders are given from the captain to his crew in regards to ship control.
I think it would be very cool if cryptic added a control system that is voice responsive-- where we teh players could really be the captain sitting back in the big chair saying this like;
'ahead quarter impulse power'
'shields up, red alert'
'fire all phasers'
'full stop'
'divert power to front shields (or other shield)'
'engage!'
for just a few. It would also be nice to have voice informations played from your officers for damage reports. Things like;
'We've lost rear shields'
or when your crew count is low 'life support failing captain'
or when death is imminent 'core failure in X seconds, captain!'
I think something like this would REALLY make us feel like a captain!
Somewhere in the forum is not only this suggestion but instructions on how to actually make it so. You should use the search function and find it. I hear it works really well.
As far as Cryptic ingratiating it into STO goes; I doubt it will ever happen. If it is even on the list, I am sure it is the last item and will be for a long time to come.
thats cool that people have figured out how to utilize third party programs to achieve this, I still think that STO devs should integrate into their game however. A lot of us, myself included, don't want to spend all that time setting up and tweaking third party programs haha.

I use vista voice recognition with macros.
There are other alternatives as outlined in the above link.
Well, then no voice command for you...
