I haven't had any trouble of note, aside from a bug killing my weapons and stopping them from firing. Might I suggest playing on Advanced, getting used to that and then trying Elite later on? There isn't really anything that makes it worth playing right now anyway in terms of rewards.
My point is, if any of you bothered to read it, is that an 80% injury chance on death is stupid.
Period.
I play STO at the Elite Difficulty Setting, your point is not valid as I'm betting you did not remove any "injuries" from your Starship before receiving the next "Injury" prior to death and respawn.
If you are currently suffering from "Injury", the chances of receiving another "Injury" increase and the chances of receiving a Major or Critical also increase.
If you remove a "Injury" that you are currently suffering from prior to death and respawn, the chances of receiving another "Injury" will NOT increase, and the chances of receiving a Major or Critical will also NOT increase.
Yep. Don't just sit there facerolling against a ship that just obliterated you while your ship is less than fully functional. Carry components, repair, regroup, THEN try again.
Nah, I think what I'll do is avoid the elite TRIBBLE, do the dailies on normal to get them out of the way faster, then go pvp since that's pretty much the only thing even close to being worth doing on this game now.
That's fine. And the rest of us that actually prefer having a challenge will enjoy Elite mode and our better chance at getting items we won't have to spend hard-earned badges on.
By the by, Elite mode battleship, dusted without having to hit my second Jam Sensors. 19k quantum torp followed by a 25k dual beam overload. It still isn't rocket science on how to crush the AI.

An 80% critical injury rate is stupid.
No i am quite serious.
Just because your not good enough to hack it does not mean the Elite DP sucks.
If you don't think its worth it then thats your decision, but it still remains an option for those of us who want a real challenge and thats why it was added in the first place.
A challenge is something to overcome. From all I've read about your cryfest here, you haven't even tried to overcome it. You fell off your bike, you got a scrape, and you went running home screaming bloody murder.
You're entitled to your opinion, sure. If you don't like the death penalty, that's great. Don't play at a setting that it'll affect you. If you're going to come here, blubbering and moaning about how not fair it is, expect to find those of us that have found a way to deal with the added challenge to tell you that you're overreacting, it's barely a scratch, and you're being a baby about it.
Yeah, I did try elite as well. Blown out of the sky. Went down to advanced.
Blown out of the sky again.
But, I decided to stick with it. And in doing so, I figured out how to use the Covariant (sp?) shields. The ones with huge capacity, but slow recharge rate. Sort of a "doh!" moment, really.
Now? I don't get blown out of the sky. I barely hold my own, and the battles take quite a while (cruiser, after all), but it has added a level of skill to my game play that didn't exist before.
But I'm not tempted to get to that Advanced difficulty yet.
Final score: 6 deaths, FOUR critical injuries to my ship, 1 minor.
This is just plain stupid, as I have been saying all along.
Don't play on Elite? You understand why the death penalty is directly associated with higher level difficulties right? It's part of the risk/reward scenario. If you don't like it, then go down to a lower difficulty.
because you died? Come on mate elite is just that 'Elite' its supposed to be very challenging. I like the death penalty and the diffculty slider it rocks.
Playiing on advanced has made me think about my crew and fit out before going into a confrontation, i applaud the challenge.
Penalties should ALWAYS suck...that is why they are...you know...penalties.
It encourages you to find ways to not die, even if that way is to just lower the difficulty.
Just saying...
yep. remember kids, its not death "priviledge" its death "penalty" as in "you durn screwed up, now y'all wear yer dunce cap an' sit in them thar corner while yew think about what you durn done".
as for my own taste of it, 12 missions done on elite so far, and not a single death in space yet. died a few times on ground missions, but i haven't sustained any injuries yet either.
I'm not going to comment on the vagaries of the difficulty slider/penalty rate but with a few missions under my belt now between RA5 down to LtCdr 9 I am going to say that at the lower levels the difference between Normal and Elite is far higher, even Advanced feels for my LtCdr feels tougher than Elite on my cruiser.
Seems, to me at least, that the speed of implementation most likely led to the only real balancing was done at the highest levels before release and that the system may not be working as intended at the lower levels.
Dont play on advanced or elite.Personally its a nice change once in a while, but between work and friends,i dont have the time so id rather use normal for my daily's thanks. Most of the equipment i get is from the marks anyways.Im just pleased its optional.Good job Cryptic.

Odd, I find the opposite at the mid LtC level.
I guess I set my LtC's slider to Advanced right after the patch to try it out, and didn't change it back to normal (I wasn't planning to level at increased difficulty, since it will slow things down). I don't play the LtC very much, but went back over the weekend to do a few missions without noticing that I was still on Advanced, and everything seemed as easy as I was used to in Normal mode. On my RA's, while I have never died on Advanced in space combat, it is pretty noticeably more difficult.

.... or don't play on elite.
Well considering that the Elite setting is for advanced players who want a serious challenge........the room for complaining is pretty small.....

I'm entitled to my opinion just as much as you are.
And my opinion is this death penalty is stupid and my simple little test proves it to my own satisfaction.
LOL
You must just suck.
Yet to have died on any elite space mission

Are you people really serious with this stuff?
you're right, when your ship BLOWS UP COMPLETELY AND EVERYONE ONBOARD DIES injury rates should certainly be higher than a mere 80%.
