Simple Suggestions

This is a thread for tiny ideas for improving STO.

Just make simple requests (i.e. requiring very few resources from the devs' busy schedules).

Our Simple Suggestions List:
  1. Filter skills at the Bridge Officer Skill trainer to be filtered by either Rank, Career Track, or Ground/Space.
  2. Correct item Mk numbers (this might take a while, I need to go to Tribble and file bug reports on my incorrect gear).
  3. Allow for missions to be additionally sorted by rank (regardless of type)
  4. Allow to Sort PvP Queues by most opposing players (should help just as the "Join Any Game" button did)
  5. Allow PvP filters (i.e. "not full", "not in-progress", "opposing faction not empty")
  6. (note: Tribble players brought this up) Change injuries to damage for ships.
  7. Don't show BOFFs in repair bay; don't show ships in medical bay.
  8. Refer to characters by chosen title instead of actual rank in NPC dialogue. (i.e. Ambassador, a lower rank, future titles, etc.)
  9. Fix BOFFs standing on chairs on bridge
  10. Toggle for Toolbar autpopulation (i.e. don't put new powers just anywhere on the bar, unless I want that)
  11. Make the "Warp to" friend button functional.
  12. Filter exchange items by quantity as well (i.e. I can see the lowest prices for a 10 stack, instead of 400 stacks of 8 or less.
  13. Fix beams going offline after an overload
  14. Swapping a bat'leth for a gun is buggy
  15. Rifle animations stuck with glow at end of tip.
  16. BOFF awareness of Cover Shields (i.e. moving out from behind them)
  17. Making buttons Numpad 9 and Numpad 0 assignable for skills (are they used for anything?)
  18. 12 button toolbars
  19. Remove level banding on fleet actions. With no fleet actions rewards, if you are over the tier of the fleet action. Or make fleet actions open to everyone in that tier. Like everyone in T3 could be in the same fleet action
  20. Fix the animation in space where I fire Multiple torpedoes when not using High yield torpedo.
  21. Fix the animation where I lose my gun in ground combat.
  22. Fix the animation where I lose my beams in ground. Sometimes my high density beam has no animation. Or doesn't fire.
  23. Fix the transporter issue where my characters hair turns black and a black spot around his com badge.
  24. Fix the commander quest where you lose your away team. Hunting the hunters is the name I think. It's the quest where you beam down to rescue the hostages from the hunters. You have to beat a squad of hunters. Then transport to a different shield to fight another squad. On the last transport before bringing down the shield. I have lost my away team on three characters. I had to beam out and back down to get them with me.

Any other little suggestions?

I'll add color to denote:
  • Fixed (Green)
  • Testing (Yellow)
  • No Info/Investigating (Red)

I'll recategorize them by bug or enhancement later. :D

I'm not a programmer, so I'm not sure what constitutes a time sink for a programmer. What would seem to be easy fixes to me may in fact require sacrificing a virgin to Bill Gates, but:

1 Refer to my character by my chosen title rank, not my actual rank in NPC dialogue. I have Captain showing as a title, despite being a Rear Admiral.
2 Allow my Bridge Officers to stop standing on their chairs in several of the new bridges found in the C-Store. I'd just as soon have them sitting as opposed to semi-hovering in mid air.
3 Don't autopopulate the toolbar with powers. Once I put them there, leave them. Once I remove them, leave them.
4 Make the "Warp to" friend button functional.

    Mine:

    1. Fix beams going offline after an overload
    2. Swapping a bat'leth for a gun is buggy
    3. Sometimes the shooting gun animation get stuck with a green glow at the end of my pistol.
    4. After putting up a Cover Shield my engineering BO should take a pace to the side and not sit there uselessly hiding behind the shield.
    5. Some planets are so bright that my ship disappears.
    6. The zone chat in PvP zones is full of random, badly spelled words.

Not serious bugs, just would be nices.

Public education was meant to fix #6. :p

The rest I can see though.

I suspect the devs have little control over this...

A Couple things. First, I believe that planet brightness is akin to the gray-scale filtering of the world when you get close to the edge of the map in champions. This is most likely to hide either, A: The fact that planets are intangible, or B: The fact that they can't have highly detailed textures on something of that size, thus at close range the texture would look grainy. Also, I agree with the beam overload bug. That would normally be a very useful skill, but I had to ditch that in favor of the high-yield torpedo skill.

High-yield torpedos, mixed with Torpedo Spread (they don't share cool-downs). are nice. :)

Making buttons Numpad 9 and Numpad 0 assignable for skills, not seen them being used for something else so dunno why they aren't able to be used.

    Expand toolbars to 12 slots.

All good things, I'd like to see them all.

Most important is the beam overload bug though. It is so very frustrating and has made me stop using one of my favorite skills.

    1. I would like to see STF missions one for each tier. In the theme of the area. For another way for players to level up. With maybe one each sector block as the game moves on.

    2. One open system in each tier. Basically a map similar to Andoria. With a couple of instance inside for ground PVP. With PVP in space as well. The moons, space stations and planet could be taken with ground PVP. If players wanted. While others could just do space PVP if the chose.

    3. Crafting based on your tier level. So you couldn't be a T5 crafter with a T1 character. Make memory Alpha item enhancement. To increase stats, resistances or improve crit chances on items. Like weapons, shields, Armor and kits. Crafting to work with anomalies as materials for Memory Alpha and crafting system.

    4. Remove level banding on fleet actions. With no fleet actions rewards. If you are over the tier of the fleet action. Or make fleet actions open to everyone in that tier. Like everyone in T3 could be in the same fleet action.

    Mine aren't that simple sorry.

I don't want to needlessly arbitrate but 1-3 sound like they'd need a LOT of resources.

I'll toss in 4 but the focus here is something simple that wouldn't need drastic overhauls or lots of new content developed ;)

Sorry about that. I over looked the part where you said simple request that didn't take a lot of time. I was looking at your request. I saw my mistake when I went back and re read your post.

    No worries, man.

I have a dozen illegitimate threads on the forums, trying to push some agenda or another. :)

Upon entering any space zone (unless flagged otherwise) you get a few seconds invulnerability to warp out to cancel a mission (in reported to spawn camping in DSEs or even in Exploration).
