New players from...please raise your hands!

I started to think about the Advisory Council again and I wondered....The idea of the Advisory Council was to bring new players to the game, from these other Star Trek related websites.

So I pose the question: Who has joined the STO game and community that originated from one of these three member sites of the Advsiory Council?
I also want to add the following:

STOked: The whole premise that there is anyone who watches STOked, and is not already or has not already played STO is not likely. STOked is completely dedicated to STO, why would anyone but an STO player watch it?

Starfleet: This website does not even mention STO, it does not even have a link to the game. How is anyone who visits their website going to find their way here?

TrekMovie.com: Here at least they advertise STO, both the game and the new book.

Those observations aside, please feel free to write if you had come to STO from one of these sites or from another Trek based site that is not on the Advisory Council.

Not sure the point of this thread.

The reason they wanted council people from those other sites was to get feedback from people who don't make use of the forum for various reasons. (Of which I'm sure everyone can think of a few)

Hence, they wouln't be here to post, correct?

I can answer your question about Starfleet though. Its a paid membership club, and those dues go to printing an actual magazine sent to its members. There have been full page ads, interviews and articles in that publication and any Starfleet member that joins gets the TOS uniform. Most website mention of the game is on the separate chapter websites.

Why in the hell wouldnt they post here if they are council representatives of the community ? hehe.... this whole game and descision making is just plain hit and miss, "let's see if this works"...

    not good.

I hate to be contradictory ( again) but was not the point if the council to allow feedback from communities outside of this one, to be delivered directly to Cryptic so that they did not have to spend man hours looking for it?
If it was as you say, to bring in new players, then it is nothing more than an unsubtle advertising ploy.

If the website members from the Advisory Council's websites are not attracting their members to play this game, then what are they giving feedback on?

"From people who don't make use of these forums for various reasons", must include poeple that don't play the game. If they don't play the game, what value is their feedback?

If they have not attracted any new players to the game, what is the value of their membership on the Advisory Council?

If no one comes here, from one of the sites (other than STOked), then what is the proof of the results of the Advisory Council's efforts to produce feedback?

STOked is a different situation because I would bet 100% of their viewers / forum members have already played or still play STO. Why would anyone else follow their (exclusively STO focused) pod cast?

So, the point of this thread is to get a sense of the effectiveness of the Advisory Council's efforts.

they are meant to give feedback from their communities, about the game, to Cryptic.

"From people who don't make use of these forums for various reasons", must include poeple that don't play the game. If they don't play the game, what value is their feedback?
If they don't play the game then they can not give their feedback on it.

If they have not attracted any new players to the game, what is the value of their membership on the Advisory Council?
the value of their membership of the council would be, I imagine, exactly what it was intended to be, bringing feedback to Cryptic from communities that don't necessarily visit this one.

STOked is a different situation because I would bet 100% of their viewers / forum members have already played or still play STO. Why would anyone else follow their (exclusively STO focused) pod cast?
You would lose that bet. Jupiter broadcasting is much larger than STOked. Many of their viewers are players of other games. They have a very varied community who may watch all their broadcasts just to see what's being said.

So, the point of this thread is to get a sense of the effectiveness of the Advisory Council's efforts.
I would remind you that there is no advisory council now. It has been scrapped to be resurrected later in a different guise and with different parameters.
So the effectiveness of the council's efforts today? Nil.

There is nothing wrong with expecting that this ourreach to websites, not dedicated to STO specifically, but to the larger Star Trek community, in the hope that it leads to more STO players. Of course it is advertising, if it were not then it would be a waste of resources as Cold-grin had wrote.

I'm just curious about the results of this supposed feedback. As I said earlier, I went to the three sites, and one of them makes no mention at all of STO. No where here in this community does Cryptic show us what feedback they have received from the Advisory Council. Whether Cryptic likes it or not, these are their official forums and it is here that their largest concentration of players are when compared to the Advisory Council sites.

It would be nice if Cryptic gave us an update about the Advisory Council. It could be simple, like "This week the Advisory Council gave us some feedback on Memory Alpha changes on the Tribble Server - This is what they said".

We might actually agree.....maybe disagree....discuss....whine....ragequit...etc.....But we would at least know what is being thought about and what ideas are being produced by the Advisory Council.

So we are led to believe....Or perhaps they just decided that revealing the AC in the first place was a mistake, and they will keep it behind the scenes.

    /emote = ponder

two things. One, I think that you misunderstand the point of the council and in doing so you are mistaken in thinking that it has anything to do with this community.

And two, Zinc himself said that the council has been scrapped so that they can rethink it and bring it back at a later date. It is my thinking ( and perhaps I too am mistaken ) that this second council will be more of what you think it currently is/was. ( i.e. more of a community representative think tank )

This would be a positive step that I hope they take.

The point continues to sail by.

Playing the forums is not the same as playing the game. More people play the game than play the forums. The council was not created for feedback from forum posters. The Devs already have that feedback...on the forums.

The point of the council was to get feedback from people who weren't forum posters. So by that very logic they wouldn't be here to respond to your post, yes?
