enter a retail key from the purchase of the game
it then should have taken you to a subscription option menu where you select your subscription plan
when you selected the plan you should have been then taken to a payment option section where you select type of payment and the information . A Credit card number, gametime card code or a paypal account.
did all those steps.
When i try to enter the reg code again it says that it is used.
It says the code is beta preview key.
It was a collectors edition and all it contained was a card with the key and instructions how to dowload. no cd or manual in the case.
It says on one of the card that the box will be sent to me a few days after i register you will send me the collectors box.
So is the game i bought at the store unusable until you send me the box? or should this work?
If you bought a boxed copy, you will need to wait for the actual box. The retail is normally printed on the back of the manual. Out of curiosity, what retailer did you buy from so we can tell them to stop handing out beta codes.
If what you have is a pre-order box, don't worry. All the collectors edition bonus stuff is tied to the key in the retail box. All the pre-order key was good for was to get you into the open beta. I'd gues that all those pre-order keys were disabled shortly after launch. Just be sure you get the actual retail box and enter the key from it.

You better check with the company that you bought that from. Cryptic will not be sending you a box. The retailer that you bought that from is the one that should be sending you a box.

There's an ACTUAL manual in the Boxed version? Oh REALLY.....?
So us poor slobs who went with digital downloads don't deserve a Manual? (Yeah, I checked the game directories on my Computer...Nada..Zip..Zilch...).
How about "publishing" one we can download, heh?
Or is that too much to ask now that you have our cash?
Also available under the "Support" menu on the website.
I guess a "Cliff Notes"/Not-detailed Manual is better than no manual at all.
Most companies include it in the game directory so you can print it out for reference, and usually include a keyboard layout, skills details, etc. But I notice Cryptic doesn't even load the game into "Program files" directory, but in a "User" subdirectory.
Dare to be different? Wish I meant that in a good way.
Thanks......I think.....
To those who posted, who think this is an adequate manual [p'wned?..lol. Yep, that one made me laugh], there's a dating service just for you. It's called "Lowered Expectations":

Yeah, I wish that most companies did what you said they do. I have 3 MMOs on my computer, and none of them have a manual, keyboard layout, skill details... nada.
I don't know about you, but when I installed STO (and CO, for that matter), it asked me where I wanted to put the folder.

You're welcome.

Aww, it's okay, big fella. Just because you found your soul mate through that (fictitious but awesome MADtv skit) service, doesn't mean it's for everyone else.

Pithy but pointless response on your part...lil'fella....But I see your point...Cryptic needs defending on this...they just need a better defender.

There's a reason they load it into a different directory related to Vista and Windows 7.
Also, as someone else mentioned, you can change the installation directory if it really bothers you. However, if you're just looking for stuff to complain about since you were wrong about a manual being provided in electronic form, carry on then.

Okay, I'll bite......
And that reason is...?
And if that reason was valid, why would I change the directory?
As far as the manual, I believe my questions/comments on it are valid...the Linked Manual is so simplistic as to not qualify as even being more than, at best, "Basic". No real info on skills (Ground or Space). We get it...it's fine for you, not all of us have set our expectation bar that low.
You say there's a reason it's loaded into a different directory....care to share that bit of info? Because other MMOs I play, still load by default into Program files subdirectories on Vista.
Or are you just here to troll those asking why the manaul doesn't cover more information, in depth? If so, I'll give your comments the attention they deserve...carry on...

Fun fact, the game will break pretty frequently if you install to Program Files under Vista or Win7 because of a new security feature called Virtual Store (short version: it intercepts and rewrites file writes inside prog files to go somewhere else). That is why it is no longer the default install location on those platforms. There is no permanent way to disable this feature of Windows, so installing outside of Program Files is the best option. The "correct" place according to MS for this would be C:\ProgramData, but more games use Users\Public\Games that we wanted to go with the clearer one. The More You Know.

Did anyone else hear the NBC "The More You Know" jingle when they read that last line or am i just crazy?
I wonder how other game development houses manage not to have this problem? But, interesting "Fun Fact" none the less.
Believe me, I'll leave it in it's default directory, given this Fun Fact. No sense inviting further problems with the game.
While I can certainly wait for a better "Manual", in favor of more extensive bug squashing to improve the game over C-Store "Fluff" and much better QA than we've seen so far (I'll believe it when I see it....I will give Dstahl props for admitting it's been sub-par), a more comprehensive Manual that covers space and ground skills, Memory Alpha (if it ever gets sorted) upgrades and the ability to have a transparent tracking of advancement there, Requirements for Promotion, Where to find Sulu, etc., would be a welcomed addition. For now, I guess it's up to third party websites.
It does boil down to "The More You Know", especially for new players. A few less frustrations goes a long way given the present state.

Yet more proof (as if we needed it) that if Microsoft does something, that something is NOT the standard.
And if that reason was valid, why would I change the directory?

Laughable. Hypocritical. And full of QQ.
If you want better info than a manual, check out the STO Wiki or something. It's not exactly a new concept to MMOs.

All the more reason for them to have a *Current* version available.

Well, to be fair, I was 'attacking' your post, not you. I simply was pointing out that your previous post was full of more holes than Swiss cheese.
I'm not defending Cryptic on this. I'm simply pointing out how wrong your post was, good'ol'lil'big'buddy'fella.

I believe there is good reason to hold you sanity in question
You may be crazy, but I guess I am as well. I even imagined the little star animation...
Why imagine it?
