1.1 Feedback!

I've been a STO player since closed Beta. I've always liked this game, but I have found myself going back to LotRO over the last month. Now that 1.1 has come, I have played STO for a few days again and I really like it. It is like a brand new game. Some specifics:

1. The Mirror Universe uniform for Girls. When I preordered, I got an idea for a character I wanted to play. She would be a pirate and privateer, flying a centuries old Constitution class which was refurbished into barely working order. She'd have a crew of misfits and scoundrels. I got the TOS cruiser, but when I went to actually make the character on day one of launch, there was no Mirror Universe uniform for my character. I have waited all these months, and finally I can play the character I envisioned back in January. And boy, does that outfit look great! I wish we could have daggers at the hip, but other than that, awesome. I have gotten many compliments on the uniform already; it looks quite sharp worn with my Tactical Kit. And when the character looks good, I enjoy playing her.

2. Difficulty levels and Wounds. I like this. I have been playing on Advanced exclusively since the patch, and I like it a lot better. I have not really noticed much difference in rewards. So I don't think the extra difficulty is actually helping me at all. (If it is, I do not perceive it). But the game is just more fun now that it is not a cakewalk. I am also trying to learn martial arts combo moves, which makes me less effective in ground combat, so I have died a few times. I like the wound system. It actually helps immersion. When I finally got a Major wound (a concussion), I used it as an excuse to RP in the social hubs. My only problem with the Difficulty setting so far has been Stop the Signal; the Undine battleship's shield regen was so high that even with the entire Klingon fleet helping we could not wear it down. I had to leave, reset to Normal Difficulty and do Cluster missions till it reset, then go back, beat the ship on Normal, then switch back to Advanced. One thing more: Please change ship "Injuries" to "damage." I don't like reading that my ship has injuries.

3. Bugs! I have had my first instance of a bug which I have heard other people getting, but which I had never experienced. In space, my beam weapons suddenly stopped firing and would not come back on for any reason or length of time. About a minute later, my photons did the same thing. I was fighting a Klingon warship at the time, and circled it helplessly in frustration as I watched its shields regen to full. I was using Overload Beam at the time, my first time with that power, so I thought that might be worth looking into. But the length of downtime was so long that this power was able to fully recharge, get used again, and countdown from 30 to 0 without ever firing, so what I saw was definitely not "working as intended." I wonder if the Klingon warship somehow took my phasers offline for what should have been a couple of seconds, but they just never came back online due to a bug? Anyhow, the first real game breaking bug I have seen, since if I cannot fire, I cannot complete the mission.

4. Drozata Station. I just want to thank you for putting this Neutral Zone station in, and please think about continuing to expand the possibilities for so-called "neutral faction" RP. I understand that, officially, everyone is either Federation or Klingon and it is up to us RPers to make a Neutral Faction work. But there are some tools you could give us. For example, there might be a way to make Fleets which could have members of both factions. I would like to see some kind of daily repeatable mission at Drozata; something that built up reputation with the staff there. In time, enough rep there would unlock additional mission chains allowing you to perform unofficial tasks that are not Fed or Klingon. We're not going to see an independent Ferengi faction, and I don't necessarily want any Neutral group to be Ferengi (who are best for comic relief episodes, in my opinion) but I would welcome more Neutral Zone and Neutral Faction gameplay options. If you ever do get holosuites working, but them at Drozata! By putting something there which you cannot find anywhere else, you will really help out these Neutral players, and give them a starbase to be proud of.

5. Constant Communication. You guys have suddenly become the best communicators in the industry. I only wish Turbine and other companies were as up front and forthcoming as you. Your willingness to talk about features that are in the works and not yet done (let alone released) makes it clear that the game IS important, it IS being worked on. Yesterday in chat I heard someone asking about a new feature and another player told him he had read about it in Engineering Reports, and it was scheduled for June. The first player said, "Oh, so not long to wait!" We're talking about JUNE! That's months away. But because we all know you are working on it, and because we know you will keep us informed as the system is developed, it does not seem that long to wait. Yay for Engineering Reports and an openness among the devs and staff.

Thanks for all the hard work. STO seems like a brand new game. There are still some things I would like to see, and I look forward to many of the improvements on your to-do list. But even without them, I am really enjoying the game again in a way that I never have, even when it was brand spanking baby new.

Among all the new bugs, a few good things have been added. I was happily suprised to see the ships cloak fX upgraded. Was very annoying not being able to see which direction I was facing before I decloaked. Its more of a light greenish glow, now.

Another bug: I assigned one of my newer Sci BO's and her two skills has no key number for activation attached to it. I switch back to an older BO, and the numbers (I think A3, A4) reappear. I can mouse over and click it, but I'm not a clicker...so I'm lost in what to do.

I get the Beam Overload bug all the time now. If you wait until end of combat and remove said weapon, then put it back, the bug clears. For me at least it does.

I agree that battleship shield regen is a bit high. I end up killing them through bleedthrough more than anything else. Maybe give them only slightly better regen (without powers) but better hull regen?

The beam overload bug drives me up the wall.
I now just can't use it because it WILL permanently shut down one of my arrays. Swapping it out doesn't work for me either, it stays down until I die or zone out.

Mind you for others it seems bugged in a different way, allowing them to one-shot-kill fully shielded cruisers without a crit. What the hell.
