Yet another silly WTF rant

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Preface:

I have always been annoied with ships running away from your explosion and all having miricle worker all of a sudden when you die. I have constantly kirbed my nerd rage over enemy spawns on the ground suddenly regaining their full compliment in the result of a party wipe. And I've gritted my teeth over the lack of Purple (understandable), Blue (ok, I'll give you that) and Green (a few more would be nice you know) item drops when compared to useless stuff that I already have lots of. But trying to play om Elite mode has finally blown my top and made me go all ape-poopy over the game!

The Rant:

The risk/reward factor of Elite is pathetic. In essence, the extra risk to myself, the player is not worth the overall reward. Now, I know everyone in here is going to jump in and say things like more skill points, more loot drops etc... well, here is my counter statement.

When facing Elite groups who are the same level as me, I still only recieve 1 or 2 skill points per kill (wtf??) (The difference in space is noticable and, I'll ignore that as at present, im not having any difficulty with space battles)
When facing Elite groups I have noticed an increase in white, useless item drops but no increase in green, blue or even purple item drops. Surely, even if the percentages stayed the same I should be seeing an increase in uncommon or better drops (maybe a blue once every 20-35 days in stead of 36-60).
Even with a nice set of shiellds and armor, a ground alpha strike from an elite mob of your level can essentialy blow you away before you have a chance to fire your primary and secondary shots for the first time.. (again, wtf!).
The refilling of spawn groups becomes even more noticable at elite as you may have worked your behind off only to die on the last ensign/warrior/etc and have that entire group back up to full strength (d'oh)...

TL,DR:

Risk is not worth the reward on Elite (at least on the ground, maybe in space at higher levels.)
Lott drop rate is seriously borked (yes we get lots of item drops but, to many useless drops!)
Group replenishment on party wipe in anything but a TF (where I know that was intended by design) = fail!
Make ground SP gain come into line with space sp gain.

I now whole heartedly hearby open myself up for the declaration of shennanigans. I also invite any flames (rants usually do get these). I also invite everyone to soot down my rant with valid reasoning (or, at least in a coherent way.) Funniest flame imho gets 100K EC, Best intelligent response gets 100K EC (either supporting or denouncing my rant)

I fear that they are giving players access to good gear too easily, the game only just came out, by the time we are RA10 and doing more STF's, what kind of overpowered loot are we going to get by that time? +10% critical chance? +100% severity? ships are going to be so mind-blowingly overpowered it would be silly. they didn't really think things through in the long-term.

I just have 2 things to say to this post.

    1) Ground Elite difficulty: YOu say that you're killed in 1-2 shots while on ground missions. There is an identified bug that ground mission NPCs are sometimes WAY overpowered in their DPS (like 5-10x too powerful). This issue is being addressed and will be brought back into line soon.

    2) Loot Drops on Elite: Elite difficulty isn't supposed to mean you get greens and blues exclusively... it means you have a higher CHANCE of getting them. I have noticed this to be true in the missions I've done so far since the patch came out. Yes, I'm still getting plenty of useless batteries (which actually are kinda nice since they now stack upto 20) but I'm gettting quite a few more greens and I even got 1 blue drop from a B'Tran Exploration mission!

I, for one, am loving the difficulty slider. At RA5 I'm doin eveything on Elite and damn is it tough! but DAMN is it a fun challenge!
On my Lt Cmdr 5 Sci officer and Capt2 Klingon I'm only on Advanced as I find it's a lil too tough on elite at lower levels.

I trick I've devised while leveling is while you're at grade 1-5 of a Starfleet Rank (Lt, Cmdr, Capt, etc) try keeping it at Advanced. At lower grades of any rank I find you don't have enough of your current high end Mk gear to complete Elite missions. Once you reach grade 6-10 and have acquired more badges and therefore more max lvl gear then try bumping it up to elite for better drops and more of a challenge.

.....made me go all ape-poopy over the game!

-giggles- i'm keeping this for siggy purposes XD

also i think the elite mode wasn't so much for the increase reward as it was to entertain the high levels with something to do since most if not all RA5s are complaining about everything being to easy and nothing to do
