Ship interiors with current tech

I’m in love with the way a ship can look in system space. I love taking screen shots of my Away Team against the backdrop of some really magnificent landscapes. Starfleet interiors however I try not to see. Like the guy who’s named his ship “HotLips”, it’s something one just endures if not ignores.

Since it’s been observed and noted on these boards that the majority of Star Trek happens within ships and ship interiors are a future part of this game, how about limiting actual free-roaming “ground” combat in ships’ interiors to the larger spaces — engineering, cargo bays, shuttle bays, holodecks and the like — and scaling other interiors in line with the IP. Firefights in cramped spaces like ships’ corridors could incorporate taking up a series of static positions rather than running about. (One can already position their officers. Let’s put that to use and expand upon it.) “Taking cover” could actually mean something.

As for interiors as communal spaces and/or as RP flavor, I’d rather have my characters walk normal sized corridors and go through normal sized doors via cut-scene style canned animation until they got to where player interaction was necessary than have out-sized interiors. I thoroughly enjoy so much of this game, and it keeps getting better, but I never go to the bridge. It’s off-putting. And if the rest of the ship interiors down the road are more of the same, that part of the game will be dead to me. It makes no sense to put so much time and many resources into something I imagine a significant portion of your current and potential player base would try to look past rather than look forward to.

I kvetch because I love.
