Great feedback so far and please keep it coming. We'll be reviewing your comments on Monday and working on any tweaks that we can. We greatly debated the "progress" conversion and it is good to see some commenting about that. It is a tough call because the old system unlocked "everything" as soon as you hit a tier where this system unlocks based on actual progress... so I'm sure we'll review your concerns about that.
One thing I'm curious about. The item designer specified that end game items at Memory Alpha have unique bonus combinations - in that you cannot find that gear in any other store. Are you finding that to not be true?
Btw - we do not yet have the ability to allow you to pick your own bonuses and make new items, so if we did do any tweaks to the items at memory alpha - they would have to be additional unique items. I'd be happy to entertain any ideas about that.
Thanks again and keep it coming

Just been on tribble to try this out and I thought i'd post some info, feedback and screenshots.

I like the system that you guys are trying to make, I like the new interface and how it works, the arbitrary progress bar as you 'craft' something makes it feel a lot less like simply buying things from a vendor, but I feel that the whole idea of the system is flawed. This is just my opinion, and I don't know who else feels the same way, but I think that you should be able to upgrade any item with certain attributes, not upgrading
specific items like we have now.
I think the system should be more like this:
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/9095/edithz.jpg (Adjust anomaly cost accordingly, it's just an example)
Rather than simply an elaborate "swap this Common item and some anomalies for the same item only Blue with an added prefix or two"
Btw - we do not yet have the ability to allow you to pick your own bonuses and make new items, so if we did do any tweaks to the items at memory alpha - they would have to be additional unique items
honestly, I think you guys should probably delay the update until you
can do this, I for one am willing to wait for a proper crafting system. don't be afraid to take your time with it to get it right. this isn't something that needs to be rushed.

Memory Alpha Revamp - Official Feedback Thread
I primarily use the "quick links" "today's posts" to browse my various forums, so categories dont make as much difference to me as they would to people who primarily browse via menu.
so, what do you think about the actual crafting then?
I made a post a few months back on crafting with (I think) the following points.
1. how it should NOT be a 'trade' but a craft with either a chance to fail or a chance to crit.
2. as you progress it opens the ability to craft better items, and eventually crit those.
3. a crit should be able to add specific bonuses, with the likelyhood of those wanted bonuses increasing with the skill level of the crafter.
So I am liking the way these changes are moving the crafting system.
Unfortunately the post has disappeared (no idea how) so I cannot exactly repeat what I came up with. It was a cross between LOTRO and EQ1 crafting I think.
I did find a reference to it from a post I made just after it on a different game forum so I know WHEN I made it: I have posts available previous to that one, and after, but nothing for the day/week where it should be listed.
That being said, I haven't gotten around to testing the new Crafting system yet, so I can't say for sure if they nailed the interface this time around.
1. "Reverse engineering" as a sub profession of crafting that you level separately from crafting done also at memory alpha:
A: Being able to take apart items for their raw materials. Like reverse engineering a hypo might net you 1 radiation samples 1 alien artifacts and 1 mineral samples. Or maybe you might get items that are not farm-able like anomalies. New crafting materials that could be used to make new types of weapons or ship augments.
B: Have special Alien components drop randomly off mobs or you might find these items randomly available from a Ferengi for sale but not always. Reverse engineering these items could have a rare chance of discovering a new technology and a new type of weapon, engine or something like that.
c: special Borg components that drop in the STFs only. Reveres engineering these items might give a rare chance of making a discovery that will allow you to craft a personal shield or hand weapon or ships shields that are more effective against the Borg giving you a slight bonus against them. Same can go for reverse engineering special Undine tech that might drop of them while battling them. Some people complain that there is no reason to run the STF's over and over again. having these special STF items would make it more worthwhile to run them to try and get these drops alone.
d: reverse engineering might give you a rare chance to learn some new fluff item that is craftable like a pet or body augment that is for aesthetic purposes only.
2. Non weapon rare items that can be crafted for fun. Perhaps in the STF's you might get random drops like parts of a ship. Collect all the parts and only a high level crafter can assemble them into a Delta Flyer type space craft. Again this would be an item only found in STF's making playing them over and over more worth while. Perhaps there could be a ultra rare chance to find android parts in the STF's. Collect all the parts and again a fully maxed out crafter might be able to assemble it to gain an android Boff. Once you find the first android part this could actually start a side quest that helps to understand why these parts are there.. But this would be an ultra rare drop.
3. Allow us to craft Regenerators and components for healing personal injuries and ship damage. Make minor, major and critical regenerators/components available at the different levels of crafting. And allow us to craft these items from raw materials anywhere not just at memory alpha.
4. Once all levels of crafting are maxed then allow us to choose a master level profession in one of three areas. Engineering where we could specialize in crafting little gadgets for use in battle. Or science where we could become doctors or researcher and specialize in healing and medicine. Or tactical where we would specialize in weapons of all kinds.
5. Allow a crafter who has maxed out all levels of crating obtain the ability to refit a lower tier spaceship into a higher tier ship.
Just a few suggestions that could be fun to consider.
something like this is a good idea to add onto what is already there
i want to be able to craft some truly unique items. im not sure how the new system works yet but let us find or buy blueprints throughout the game that allow us to craft some really awesome weapons/armour that are very different from the normal + 30 critical
