How about introducing colored auras for the different shield types. I suppose it isn't canon, but extending the colors that different weapon types have to shield types seem like a decent addition to me.
The shield auras that appear as you are hit is one of the great graphical points to me. A little extra flavor, if you will.
This is straight out of SFC. It has some beniefit, but honestly, if you need a color coding to pay attention to the status of your ship, you're better suited to be a bridge officer, not a captain.
Someone is not reading at all....
He is not talking about shield status colors but rather about shield type colors.
The shield icons have different colors, blue for cov, yellow for regen etc, makes perfect sense to me that the actual shields themselves should have the same colors.
I would agree if we had indeed different kind of shields but it is not the case. Some characteristics may differ from Resiliant compared to Covariant but in essence they are the same. It's not as if we had Photonic, Polaron or Tetryon shields...
I understand why some would do a double take on this one, but as Alex points out I mean giving the in game shield impact glow (that is now, I guess a sort of grayish-white translucent color) just a tint of other colors depending on the shield you are equipped with.
I am not talking about in your face high intensity effects. Just a tint, so to speak.
It's nothing that makes or breaks the game for sure, but could add a little flavor, as I say.

the graphics are the game's strength
give the art team all kinds of projects if you ask me
different shield colors and shapes would enhance the visual no doubt

No but leave it to the Devs to break something else in the game should they decide to implement this.
