Hey now, we were just talking because one of those you see there just got his 500k credits that he won from a contest I hosted recently. We started chatting, and then we just /e dance_ while chatting, and then more people joined in on it and well, why stop? hehehehe
emotes and role playing. The final proof that a game has nothing to offer.
On another note I was actually having a pleasant day in STO today. Up until I tried Ground Zero.
Confusing messages in space were bad enough but on the ground it was worse. Just run to these places not on your map or scanner and do stuff. Ok, I can work that out.
After a while I have to go back and mess with power conduits in places I have already been. Cool. I eventually figure out what and where they are and do that. Now. I have to kill 2 reman parties at the east conduit.
OK.
whenever you are ready.
waiting........
at this point I had been waiting nearly an hour and nothing
(yes, I know that sounds a lot but I went around the map killing all respawns twice hoping for something to spawn at the east conduit but nothing )
So I relog. Same situation. I relog and then I have to restart from a stage previous. This allows me to continue and finish the mission but makes for a miserable 2 hours. Add to that I still can't finish 'hunting the hunters' at the 'worth' stage ( just tried for the 4th time ) because in the hunt my away team won't follow me through the teleporters to the next level and I'm not geared to solo such things.
My decent day in STO ( which is a rare thing ) quickly turned into another ****** day of fail.
What does it mean when players have more fun playing with emotes than playing the actual game
To be fair, this happens in every MMO (save the ones where you play a vehicle only) eventually.
I remember sitting though an acted poetry reading in FFXI ... WTF I hate poetry (though it may have just been the cute cat girl avatar breast hugging me the whole time that kept me there).

I attended a few weddings on SWG. one of them I swear the entire server was there. ( we had about 150, so it wasn't the whole server )
bet stuff like this will happen more, and more. it is most due to social areas like space dock.

... I didn't do either one often but I really took both as a gauge of the health of a community. I felt like City of Heroes and Warcraft at their peak were full of emotes and roleplaying. I'm more worried about a game where I don't see those things.

I'm not suggesting that players getting together to do stuff is not great, but to stand around waving in a group? It's pathetic.
One of the best things to ever happen in any game was the level 1 40 man raid on Hogger in WOW.
That's the sort of thing we need to be able to do here. But wait. We can't
( worth a look for the astounding drum and bass version of 'favourite things'
also I've been surprised not to hear from you about the fact that we have a date for Atari's demise if they can't reduce their debt. But in your own time

search my posts. I found a resolution in the last shareholder's meeting where they voted to dissolve the company or not march 2009 because the shareholder debt was worth way more than half the company equity ( as it's been for a few years ). In that resolution they gave the directors until march 31st 2012 to improve the debt/equity ratio above where it is ( meaning get the company worth at least half ( after debts paid ) what it owes the shareholders ) or they will dissolve the company.
Trouble is they can't issue bonds again ( that's increasing shareholder debt and making it worse ) and their bank credit facility ( overdraft ) expires in 2 months and they have already been granted an extension on that to cover this first half of the year so I don't see where the cash can come from.

actually don't bother. I only repeat what I've said here. So I'll just find it for you...
Resolution 20 (Equity is less than half the share capital) The Shareholders Meeting, having satisfied the quorum and majority conditions for Extraordinary Shareholders Meetings, after analyzing the Companys situation as it appears in the financial statements for the year ended March 31, 2009 as approved by the first resolution, and having noticed that the equity amounts to a negative amount of 4,370,963.67 and is less than half the share capital which amounts to 12,975,860 -, decided to approve this resolution and then not to dissolve the Company but to continue its activities pursuant the Article L. 225-248 al.1 of the French Commercial Code. The Shareholders Meeting acknowledged that the Company has not later than the closing of the second fiscal year following that in which the recognition of losses occurred, which means no later than March 31, 2012, to restore its equity up to an amount at least equal to half the share capital.

It's in the corporate site shareholder documents.
It will be interesting to watch, I guess. I don't doubt your knowledge of investments but I'm also not convinced that there aren't other options/possibilities. Entrepreneurs tend to make things happen creatively when they have no other options left.
I guess I'd just say this:
I wouldn't invest money in Atari as an investor right now. At the same time...? I wouldn't rule out the possibility that people with a much bigger stake in this than you or I will do everything they can behind closed doors to preserve their livelihoods. So while I wouldn't buy Atari stock as an investor looking for a return...? I would move cross country if they had a job opening that interested me.

I have invested in Atari. Not much but what we call here a 'fun punt'
I needed to in order to be sure of all the shareholder announcements.
What we are seeing here is a company that have to make a profit ( something they have never done in their life ) and pay back enough shareholder debt 9 buy back bonds ) in the next 2 years so as to keep the shareholders invested or they will call to dissolve. That's dissolve after debts paid,. It will be asset stripped.
Silence skin head.. post somthing positive.. or else zip it
why post positive? Is that the law? Am I not allowed to think that big boss enemies as a faction are a ridiculous idea for faction play without being insulted?

That for me, is a positive.

Ya, I found the resolution before you posted it but thanks anyway.
It seems to me, looking at all the information on the corporate site that they are moving more and more of their operations to the US due to the fact that the US is providing the higher return. (Just thought that was slightly interesting)
Even if the company dissolves, which might be a good thing. Cryptic would be sold off to someone else. I don't think STO is going to go away. As a matter of fact it might be the reason another company picks up Cryptic.

at the point you need to dissolve a company because of negative equity, the staff are long let go, the assets including desks are sold. All assets are realised ( meaning sold ). If Cryptic as a going concern are still on board at that point there is nothing to sell, they will be liquidated ( again, Cryptic are not a separate company with separate assets, they are just Atari employees ).
Atari did not buy Cryptic like you would a car. its not that easy to sell on. ( they can do but it needs to be done long before the main company goes **** up and consider that if it has already failed for Atari then it's not a viable concern for anyone else )
As always, I just try and report the facts as I see them

I would have to disagree with your interpretation at least to a degree. Given how Cryptic was purchased and the amount as well as it being able to function as a separate entity I would surmise that Atari would sale Cryptic before the deadline or there would be some other remedy. The truth is, Atari just might make the deadline. (Doubtful) However, Atari is paying Cryptic the bonus or will have if Cryptic meets the targets I doubt Cryptic will be stripped and sold. Liquidated if you will.

I was a wookiee priest at a wedding once! Good times....
More of these kind of community socializing will happen, and it is NOT a bad thing.

never. It's a ridiculous idea. You may as well ask for a lich king faction in WOW.

I don't agree that the borg should be added as playable either. I'm nothing if not consistent.
