So whats the best weapon to pick since everything is equal now minus the bonus? Is it phaser and disruptor like people have been saying forever?
?

pretty much. even if the skill points were equal, phasers still trump polaron/tetryon, the proc is just so much better anyway.

Don't discount the power of Tetryons. They easily fit into any build you could think of. They're not that much more expensive than phasers or disruptors. The way the tiers lock you out you HAVE to spend points anyways.

Tetryons have some game in this new system. Definitely.

really? I don't know. maybe if they reduced the enemy shield power rather than just knocking a tiny bit of shields off it would be worth it. on my escort I can take down an enemy shield facing in a volley or two, at the rate which weapon procs.. proc, they wouldn't really help in the slightest, wheras phasers proccing at any point are great and take a whole system offline.

don't get me wrong, i'd love to use tetryons, I love that blue beam, and I wish the proc was better, but with the skill cap as it is, I just can't justify spending the points for a non-improvement weapon. it's even worse on a science ship because you need to invest in tons of science skills to improve your BO abilities, escorts and cruisers don't really have that problem so perhaps they are more viable for them.

Does anyone know how long phasers take a system offline?

Phasers take a random system offline for 5 seconds. Depending on when it happens and what ship you're in, five seconds isn't a lot of time to get a torp volley away through the downed shield - downing anything else is fairly ineffective. Also remember it's ONE system per proc - you don't know which one went down save for shields (the shield rings disappear). For weapons, I find Jam Sensors/Scramble Sensors to be more effective - but that's just me :)

As to the other procs -

Disruptors proc a debuff on HULL resistances - that doesn't help at all while you're taking the shields down.

Plasma proc is a DoT on hull that ignores shields - it's pretty weaksauce though, and doesn't proc often.

Tetryon proc is -80 to ALL shield facings - helps take shields down, doesn't help on hull. Doesn't really matter - when you're in hull you can be dead fairly quickly, anyway.

Polaron proc is basically the same as Tetryon, but drains power from systems.

Antiproton proc is a chance to bypass shields entirely - doesn't happen very often.

This is all in space, of course.

All weapons benefit from RoF - all procs are per-hit based. Tetryon when using all cannons or on turrets can be VERY powerful, as the proc is calculated on a per-bolt basis. On beams - not so much, since it's per-beam hit. Same applies to the other weapons - Plasma is still fairly weak even with that, though - which is why a lot don't bother with Plasma.

Obviously you can tell which ones I favor - a all-cannon/turret Tetryon Escort can down shields very, very qyuckly. Only things I have trouble with are BOrg, due to their resistances - once through the shields, they die fast though.

    Weaksauce?

More like epicsauce! I personally get a thrill out of watching someone's ship burn :D (/serious it IS the weakest proc though, but I still love it :D )

Yeah plasma is also nice because it's the only one that stack as of now. However IMO it's really just a choice between disruptor or phaser. mainly because of the skill cost. I like disruptors because the 10% debuff usually will proc by the time the shields are down and it adds the extra 10% damage to my HYTIII giving it juuuust enough damage to kill most escorts in one volly in pvp. More to the point though is really that the proc isn't that important.

The only bonus antiproton gets is a another crit severity, it does not go through shields........
