New storyline missions?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Have any new storyline missions been added post launch? Not talking about STFs here, but the same kind of storyline missions you do while leveling to admira(like "City on the Edge of Never", to cite a well known one). Are there plans to add more storyline missions in the future, or just more STFs? What kind of schedule can we expect for new storyline missions? One every major update? These questions are obviously for the Devs, but feel free to give your feedback on what you would like to see.

I believe that we are getting more story line style missions in season 2 (July).

The Borg Hub had 2 or 3 episode missions (dealing with the Undine) when that opened up, the STFs, new star clusters, and a few new Fleet Actions are what have been added from a content perspective post launch.

Additional episodes are coming. A new end game sector with episodes to take players to the new skillcap, Klingon faction specific episodes, and a new sector with episodes for both Feds and Klingon players.

The way I see it, these missions take the longest to create.

But, as you can tell from ooodles and ooooooodles of player feedback ... these are the most popular missions in the game. City on the Edge of Never keeps getting talked about. People still rave about the Hirogen trap in Hunted. How many times have I seen people ask each other which choice they made in the Drake Section 31 mission? How often do I see people talk about how much they like the Q mission in Gamma Orionis?

So please keep on that course to continue to make more of that content. I understand it takes the most development time. But thus far it's been tied into all my favorite parts of this game's experience.

When??? That's the real issue/question. 2 months to repeatable current quests gives some of us little reason to be excited atm.

Is it policy that the game will continue to be a repetitive grind of the same tedious missions up until we reach RA5 and are able to play this new 'content'?

shoot this, click this is not a valid storyline for level progression.

dstahl could you tell us what level range the new klingon episodes will be? I would like to play the klingons, but having to do 90% pvp only disencourages me to do so...

I thought Season 2 brought new mission TYPES. I'm looking for more than the 5 random (and now lame) "explore" missions tbh as well as more quest type stuff. I'm OK with the current mission variety...I just want more of them to do.

Agreed, the scan missions are a cluster, a star cluster, no pun. :D They could be fun though if you made them into puzzles. For example you could travel along a planet's orbit and catalog a series of different anomolies. Then you have to return and brief the staff on what you saw. You get a list of star clusters and you have to pick from the list and submit it to the staff, if you get it wrong you have to go back until you get them all right. It could actually be "educational and fun." Or use the scan missions primarily for crafting. That way people can go to particular parts of the game to collect specific samples, just like you would in REAL life.

Aid the planet missions could actually be some of the BEST missions in the game. When you "aid the planet," you should have NO IDEA what you might be doing. You could be collectiong flora samples for a vaccine. You could be capturing a space creature to help tag it and track it or to borrow some part of if to make medicine. Tracking an animal is toally doable because in Aion, to kill this REALLY fast creature I had to team with someone and we staked out it's trajectory. One person chased it while I waited at the point it always returned to. We finally nabbed it. That's a mission right there. Just like in real science...;)

You might help a civilization with irrigation or their first warp engine. The possibilities are endless but just transfering commodoties, is BOOOOOORRRRRIIIIIIINGGGGGGG <
    :(

It seems that we will be seeing all new types of gameplay. The Federation Diplomatic Corps is going to contain new non-combat mission types including First Contact and Anthropology. The new High End sector will be for all factions, and will contain missions with choices within them that can deliver different outcomes. There has even been mention of a damage repair minigame for healing the damage from the new injury system. It seems they are working on improving the repetitive gameplay in Season 2.

I agree that the leveling system was not what would be expected in an MMO. But I understand why it is the way it is. The time limit took away any chance of creating the game correctly, IMHO ofc.

It could have been a much longer level climb with a ton of quests along the way. They should have had each system a complete system with real planets to explore and quest on or around. This would include Earth and the Accademy for the starting zone.

Just think of the amount of content that could have been in this game. Using each system for a large number of quest could have had multiple ways to level. So each alt could level in there own way as well as the increase in time to level cap with a much larger quest base. There could have been the main missions then hundreds of alternate quests in each system with unique rewards for completing chains conected to a system.

But somethng like that would have taken another 2 or 3 years to bring into this game. So we are now stuck with this leveling system. Hopfully down the road, we get a lot more choices for game play atthe level cap. Possibly a bit more of a sandbox feel to exploration. We will have to wait and see.

Yay!!!! :) Really looking forward to the Klingon PvE content. I like the faction and would like to roll another Klingon character. I can't bring myself to farming those Nebula Defenses again though :p

My point is that they seem keen to add end game content for the bored RA5 players but in order to get there we are still expected to grind through the repetitive and tedious shoot 5 / click 5 ( yes, I noticed that sometimes it appears to be 6 or 4 now. Great fix ) in order to get there.

I don't have an RA5. i doubt that I ever will. It's such a sap of my will and intelligence to have to grind through these repetitive missions. The hope that there might be something better and different to do at end game is no carrot for me. It's a dull game. The only thing I liked was the fleet actions and they are currently a waste of time trying to complete with 3 or 4 others.

Tacking things to the end won't make what we have to do to get there any less dull.

Well, once the Federation Diplomatic Corps is released, you will be able to use it to get to 45, since it will contain new types of gameplay. Another suggestions is PvP. It is pretty good for leveling and is surprisingly fun, once you learn how to properly set up powers.

I appreciate that there may be more things to do in the future but that's not going to get me subscribing. I gave it another chance at the promise of new content this time around and apart from cosmetics and a few design tweaks there is nothing that has improved the gameplay for me as a levelling player.

Sure I can come back later but how many monthly subscribers, the main income from the game, can this game afford to have "come back later"?

And I'll add something I was tired of saying in beta and launch. If you think that I hate STO and have a desire to see it fail then you have no comprehension of what I'm about. I would never be here in this community if I did not want a star trek based MMO that i could truly immerse myself in.

    I don' think so Shikamaru.

The way I've been reading it the Diplomacy is a secondary leveling/rating system.
if you have played other MMOs think of it in terms of 'faction' scores.

I didnt get the impression that you would get points that would allow you to skillup captain ranks.
Though I could be wrong and there might be some conversion or ratio of points, but I would guess that progression of rank using purely political (diplomatic) means would be much slower than what we've seen so far.
