If we ever get a glimpse of Braxton's 29th century era, Post-Temporal Cold War, time traveling Starfleet... I think it would be great to see them have an Undine on the crew.
Enterprise pulled this by having a Xindi on the Enterprise-J. Every Star Trek series has had at least one crew member of a race who was an enemy in the last. It's the way the Federation works. It's... "insidious" as Quark might put it. And I think it's one thing that has been very much in keeping with Roddenberry's sense of Utopianism and also the sometimes odd colonial overtones of Trek to suggest that every enemy is a future ally.
For that reason, I think it would make an awesome moment if we found ourselves aboard a future 29th century Starfleet vessel and the Captain took us to a bridge where there were Undine serving. It would be a nice moment with some shock value to it and then to have it explained that in his future, the Federation has room fro Undine... maybe even still-assimilated Borg as well, as long as they are part of the Collective by choice and not force, of course. Just really hammer home that the future is more enlightened than we can imagine and bigger than we could imagine, that there is no enemy that cannot be a friend. I think that's core to Trek's values and would be wonderfully jarring if followed up with a mission where we have to go back and fight the Undine present day.
i think compared to the undine the federation is nothing more than primitive lifeforms so i doubt they would join but that would be cool to see. also map shape shifters/romulans etc
you can only have liberated borg. if they where still part of the collective, that would just be wrong. never turn the borg into the good guys, or allies or anything like that. the borg are, ironically, a unique race in that they are not like anybody else. they dont care for politics or making friends or helping others. they just want to gather new tech and should never be a part of the crew no matter what.
