guys playing female characters without stating in the BIO that they AREN'T really female. it's one thing to do so in a SINGLE player RPG, which I've done in Fallout3 and Mass Effect cuz I was tired of male oriented FPS characters, but in a MMO I see it as being deceitful and misleading.
This isn't an online dating service, it is a game. Who cares if you choose a male or female character? How does it change the dynamic of the game play?

LOL.
Is it also misleading that I play a klingon when I'm actually
[que dramatic music]
a human!??
Look, when you are older and more mature - you'll realise that it really doesn't matter and that everyone in MMOs plays characters of the opposite gender from time to time. Noone is here to seduce you.
And character BIOs are mainly there for RP purposes. Noone is gonna seriously update their BIO to point out that they are actually a man playing a female character, just because a couple of immature players may have a problem with that and wish to judge them for it.
It would appear that MMOs are potentially not your thing.

well.. lets see..
I'm male, married to a wonderful woman and have 3 kids. I run my own business, home school my kids and have a fair amount of time to play STO.
I roll up about 75% of my characters as female.
why?
well..
1. RP.. I love to see people react to my character..
2. If I am going to be sitting behind my keyboard for a number of hours playing STO and be being a Straight Male.. I prefer looking at an aesthetically pleasing female rear than a male rear any moment of the day.
Now my character BIO is for my RP with that character.. and frankly, i don't tell people that I am male unless I am specifically asked by way of PM.. because if it is stated outright, the Immersion is broken.. as such. people won't react like they would towards a real female.. and I enjoy RPing a lot... as such, I don't do things that could lead to an open break of RP Immersion. Noting my bio that way would be an immersion breaker off the bat.
LOL, true story. She was upset I didn't play FFXI anymore. So she ended up moving out, moving to the opposite coast, and moving-in with the guy she healed for. Almost on the anniversary of her dumping me, LOL, she had his son.
Note how the OP uses the word 'I' a lot. Well 'I' don't base my characters on my rl. Anyway how does the gender of my mmo characters have ANY relevence to my rl gender?
Deceitful? How am I going to try and convince someone that I'm really a Joined Trill who..
has lived for hundreds of years
got my own collection of starships
access to 24th-25th century tech
the rank of admiral
my backstory relies on the entire ST genre to be real
Or a liberated Borg Human?
If you or anyone believes that my bio is a representation of my rl then you need help distinguishing rl from games. Until players start preying upon others like they do on social/dating websites where rl information is relied upon and you are deliberately trying to convince someone your bio is you in rl (so it's not about the characters lives but rl) I don't see why I should have to divulge any rl info or warnings.
Seriously though this is if you're reading way too much in to people's characters and I never ever associate game characters with rl. I don't know why I really bothered replying to this really it seems plenty of others have the same view.
Really what you (and probably you alone) want is a disclosure like they have at the end of every tv show/film stating that all characters portrayed are entire fictonal and are not meant to represent any real life person and if they do it's enitrely circumstantial. If my above character description at all represents a real person then PLEASE LET ME KNOW! I'd love to be able to prove ST is real and everything therein before I change my character bio to something which is really fictional..... Some people are funny.

out of interest is this a joke or are you being serious?
if your serious why would anyone feel the need to state what they really are in real life?
We have the time of out lives, hitting on Orion girls, acting like the biggest macho in the universe and get away with it 'because its just roleplay'.
Funny story...
Once tried to get rid of a rather... Amorous player once.
Chat said she was a guy playing as a female. It did not soooooooo help and just made the guy more anxious.
Isn't this thread from a loooong time ago? I only ask as the OP says it was posted today. I clearly remember this thread from month or so ago. Or maybe I just need some sleep hehe. Or I am psychic since I knew chat was going to say something about snickers before I read it HAHA Hrrrrrrm

See? Its why I only play male characters. No-one hits on a Lethean. I can just play in peace without some poor boy in his basement getting his hopes up. Or else.
I thought everyone knew that guys who play girls online are just trying to 'convert' all those straight guys.
Because lets face it there's nothing quite so good to the average male gamer as tricking a fat unshaven forty something married gamer into going on a date. That's a top score.
Lost my fiance' to a guy who played FFXI with her.
OUCH!
but it happens, a good friend of mine lost his wife to a WoW player, she left him and 4 kids.
On a side note...
I was playing my female Andorian (I am male) hanging out with a fleetmate playing "his" female Vulcan.
We were hit on by three guys, they started out by just standing in a group and staring (like boys at the mall), then came the suggestive comments (holy TRIBBLE). I was absolutely laughing so hard I could hardly type.
But I think they realized that with the username @soupgoblin, I probably wasn't female.
My opinion is, if it is a computer game, there is a 90% likelihood that that sexy charchter you have been chatting up, ain't a woman.

Temporal physics, its a pain! You will have the time boys (who maybe girls playing as boys, we dont know becuase their bio doesnt say!) after you.

Apparently it happens fairly often amongst mmo players nowadays.

That's generally what I do whenever I see a cute-looking avatar. I just check the @name and its usually something masculine, LOL. Although, if I did find a cute, female, STO player, I still wouldn't have the balls to say anything, since even then, odds are she's married (and playing with her husband) or so tired of guys hitting on her I'm going to be met with vitriol LOL.
Maybe you lonely male players should start to hit on male Lethean toons. Or Gorn. I know of many rl females playing 'ugly' species. (I think Letheans look very smart, so I play him to reflect my intellectual side.)

That is how your post is read in this girls lil world.
WHAT!? See yourself as dumped! Chat only dates guys with Snickers on their forehead.
an MMO is about the last place I would look for a date.
Especially a STAR TREK one.
have a very messy Keg-party!

MMO is a great place to lose a date though, LOL.
Lost my fiance' to a guy who played FFXI with her.
Excellent point!
ummm
Anyways...
Because he had better "gear" than you?
OK, that was nasty. Sorry.
