Mark of Honor/explore Weapons - a rethink

Well I for one am not happy about this...

it's a good idea to give any weapon damage type as purples in exchange for mark of honor/exploration, but now all DPS is the same, all [bonus] [bonus] are the same, the only differences are <to target> and more importantly "Skill Points Cost" except for anti-proton which don't have any <to target> at all.

It costs 300 for Phaser/Disruptors, 400 for Tetryon/Plasma and 500 for Polaron/Anti-Proton.

Why would anyone use Tetryon/Plasma/Polaron or Anti-Proton when they could use Phaser or Disruptors and save skill points for elsewhere..... I'll tell you... because there was no purple of any other weapon type but now there is, and people went with anti-proton for that extra [bonus] however now people (at least I am) are feeling a little 'undercut' on this patch.

I'm gonna suggest to Cryptic to do one of two things here to make it fair...

1) Respec everyone for free and refund marks or honor/exploration (and remove all previously bought purples) so we can choose the cheaper skill options aswell.

2) or More Likely Change the weapon Damage Skill Points cost so they all cost the same... 400 could be fair, being right in the middle... and respec everyone for free... (so those that paid 300 can retrain to their liking and those at 500 can distribute the extra points). Or just make them all cost 300 and refund the extra skill points which would be alot easier.

    In PvE I agree completely.

    In PvP however it is not only a case of Skill Points costs. People do sometimes use more exotic damage as opponents often equip shields/gear that strongly resists certain "popular" weapons types.

    You tend to see a fair bit of variation in PvP as a result.

    That said, I too was hoping to see a wider range of enhancements for the purple gear and I STILL think its insane to have the skill points costs for skilling up in these later weapons being higher or different to phasers/disruptors with no major incentives to do so (outside of my PvP point above)

    well there is also purple shields to resist all different damage types too, so pve or pvp the problem still remains that being an AP Ship costs more skill points than being a Pha Ship and there is no benefit to being AP anymore, infact with the <to target> on Pha/Dis/Tet/Plas/Pol the AP weapons are obselete since they have no <to target> and now all the weapons are purple with the [bonus] that AP had the only advantage to want to use them.

    Please Cryptic even out the skill cost of weapon damage types.
