I tried the PVP for the first time not that I am RA5 and have the PVP daily.
I am sure since I have not done the PVP at all yet in this game that I defiantly have a "I SUCK AT IT" factor here hehe but honestly in ever single match I played the feds were slaughtered. Ever time. We never gained any ground against the Klingons. I have played about 12 games so far against the klingons and not one was it even a contest.
On one game however where it was FED v FED we almost won. Still lost but it was at least a close game. When I face off against the Klingons however my shields are striped and I am dead within seconds. Literally nothing I can do. and those matches are almost a flawless victory.
Now I am honestly not raging here. I have fun at the game even when I lose. And I generally don't like the "is the other faction overpowered threads?" I am just wondering if this is the norm? Am I just unlucky to get into a group with as many players that are complete PVP noobs like me. Am I doing something wrong? Do the feds win sometimes against the Klingons?
There are a lot of "Klingons are overpowered threads" that is for sure. Speaking as a Klingon PVP'r, I can honestly say, we are not overpowered. Take for example a match I was in yesterday. While it is true we outnumbered the feds, just barely, it was taking 3 to 4 ships just to drop a Fed cruiser. Usually by the end of the fight, the cruiser had eliminated all but one of the ships.
Most of the matches boils down to teamwork, coordination and concentration of fire. A lot don't believe this but since Klingons spend a lot of time in pvp they by that nature get a lot of experience at pvp. Ship to Ship the feds have the better ships. You could look at a BOP the wrong way and it would explode. I have paid more and more attention to what happens in ship pvp because of threads like these. Honestly, it is usually cause the feds split up and do not work in formation. When they do, they are almost unstoppable.
Now, when the feds are grossly outnumbers. Well, there is nothing really to do then.
No one would like to hear it, I certainly dont like being told by a stranger how it is. However, Atomic is right, you pvp for xp and gear from LT6 to RA5, you learn a few things about how and where to hit a ship where it hurts, how to blindside a ship (cloak helps, but is not the OP factor).
No one likes being told how it is, but it is true, fed ships 1 for 1 are slightly superior than the klingon ships. I dont demean fed players by thinking they're all carebears, but too many times have i seen an escort slow down and approach me, and i can see them powering up their tactical abilities at 10.1-10.4km for a cannon run. Most klingons know what to look for and know exactly how to counter it (RSP).
I just wish that the whining would stop and that the players doing such would open their eyes.
I play both factions and certainly find that playing as a Klingon is easy mode.
It is not that the feds are worse than the Klingons at team work, I have been on some terrible teams on both sides. But the Klingons have something that allows them to mitigate bad teamwork.
Being able to do near risk free reconnaissance, unmolested regrouping and breaking combat at will are huge advantages that having a cloak brings.
For starters, you need a good power set-up for PvP. At least one Science Team and Engineering Team are essential. Reverse Shield Polarity is essential for temporarily saving you from the "target them one at a time" approach. Beam overload works great in conjunction with A torpedo yield skill. If you time it right, you can use the overload to drop a shield facing a second before the torpedo's hit, which doesn't give the enemy time to adjust power to that facing. At the start of each rank you want to put your points into weapon skills which increase your DPS greatly in those early levels in each new Tier. Al off this combined can make you a pretty decent fighting machine.
Now the bigger problem for Federation players is getting a good team. Whereas with Klingons you can usually win with a random team, Federation players need a good balance of ship types and classes. On my Klingon character, I've noticed that the few Federation teams that beat us had a good number of healers. A tactic that works pretty well against Klingons is to have at least two players with either Extend Shields or Transfer Shield power. You let the team waste time attacking a ship, and then you snatch the kill right out of their hands by protecting your team mate. Having all of your team members with Reverse Shield Polarity helps greatly, but this isn't as effective now that SNB counters RSP.

Risk free recon : Agreed, although mask sensors would do the same thing, its just that many people dont want to adapt to use it. Also, I do not engage more than 1 on 1's unless I have backup. Its been said on other threads, that klingons would assist each other as a priority unless stated that they're going to ninja a node, then i get the hell outta dodge.
Unmolested regrouping : We regroup at spawn, generally, we dont all head off in all directions of the compass. Klingon groups noticed either break towards sensor array or to the right (Salvage Op). As for arena maps, they follow the first ship heading off (usually a cruiser or carrier takes the lead), its common sense.
Breaking combat at will : Combat cloak is overrated, 3seconds of no shields before your ship actually cloaks isnt failsafe and you will get decloaked and destroyed before your shields are even back up. BOPs will juggle power to engines, evasive or ramming speed to get 10km+ and THEN cloak. None of this shadowstep (nwn fans) or vanish (warcraft) rubbish. Everyone can disengage at will, its whether or not you saved your cooldowns (evasive) for it.
There are two skill levels in PvP; Federation vs Federation, which is the easy one, and Federation vs Klingon, which is the hard one. When you consistently start winning the relatively easy FvF matches, you will be ready to start venturing into FvK matches. The difference in difficulty is mainly due to Klingon players having far more PvP experience, as PvP is all they ever do. Eventually you may even start winning some FvK matches.

You mention a very important factor. Most of the time Klingons do not engage 1 on 1. It does happen but usually there is two or three ships attacking a single ship. This is what I mean by concentration of fire. I have seen cruiser wait till I am about 15K out before it begins it's attack run. Gets the attention of the enemy and then I come in with my BOP.

There is one major rule to the battle cloak. Using it can and will get you killed.
To be honest, its better to be helpful, otherwise we just breed resentment. Although we all have our bad days. Guess this is a good day for me even tho i havent logged in yet :P
I think I disagree with practically everyone in here about PvP.
Fed vs Fed is easy mode? HA! I play against fed Fleets like D.O.B. cause there the only ones that give my fleet a challenge.
I haven't played a decent Kling fleet in weeks, but I know they're out there.
Fed ships are not superior, so cut the TRIBBLE. I personally prefer my Kling cruiser.
Stop kidding yourselves. Klingon cloak makes up for a lot of shortcomings in teamwork. And battlecloak is awesome. Oh, and you can see fed escorts powering up cause, you know... THEY CAN'T CLOAK. Klings do the same thing, but under cloak.
Of course, my view of player skills for both sides may be warped cause I'm use to 5v5 Fleet battles.
Honestly, it is usually cause the feds split up and do not work in formation. When they do, they are almost unstoppable.
Yup. Was playing Fedside yesterday on my Lt C Tac, doing Capture and Hold matches. First Cap and Hold map = 4 Feds 7 Klingons. Ugh. Next one was more balanced - only 1 extra Klingon - and the Feds were working together. It was a thing of beauty.

You're not alone in noticing that. It's the same way for me when I would do FvK PvP. I just stick with FvF to get the daily completion marks. It's a lot more fun to actually fight than have a single ship come out of nowhere and shred the shields/hull in a few seconds.

AtomicFB has a good reply to our concerns right ofter my OP. And there are some pretty good posts in this thread too concerning this.

Either way I suppose I still get my 5 marks hehe
Well in my experience, most Feds are like yourself. They never really PvP'd in the lower tiers and now that they have to get marks they jump in the deep end of the pool and get eaten. Klinks on the other hand have been PvPing (because for the most part its how we level) since Lt.7 rank.
Want to get better at PvP (especially Ground PvP) roll a Klink. I sucked at PvP, took my Fed Sci to RA5, yaddad yadda, never touched PvP. Couple of buddies rolled Klinks, had me come over to IKS and roll a toon. 1st week I got my head kicked in. But after seeing what the Feds were doing to me, I adapted and overcame. I now spend much more tiem Klink side than I do Fed side and thats even with the complete lack content on the Klink side other than PvP.
Although, I did roll a Pakled last night and thats going to be fun to level up.........
Klinks tend to be more experienced due to the way they gain xp and they tend to work together more in PvP. It makes a huge difference.
This. I play both sides, and this is the major factor. Case in point: Feds complain about Klingons in ground combat as well, even though both sides are EXACTLY equal in terms of skills, equipment, etc.
And, in both space and ground combat, a good Fed team is just as lethal as a good Klingon team.

Stay tuned for this weeks episode of "Federation PvP QQ"....
Should really read up on the old threads before starting new ones... they are NOT hard to miss....
