Ground Mission Suggestions

Hi, new player, been playing 2 or 3 days now (only about an hour a day) I'm only up to Lieutenant 4 or something.

Forgive me if there's already a thread for this, I did a search and couldn't find it.

Anyway, it seems ground missions get a lot of flak. They're short, they're repetitive, no variety, beam down, shoot the Klingons, or run around and hit F on the shiny things. Actually, this doesn't feel that different from any other MMO Run back and forwards between 2 npcs as you deliver their messages, kill 10 giant rats...

In some regards I actually like the missions, they're short, they're short, they don't take ages to complete....kind of fits in with a half hour episode to me, gets the feel of a TV episode to me. Your accessible area is small, well, thinking from the shows, I don't remember the crew running off exploring miles and miles of the planet all the time either, they beamed down in the vicinity of what they needed and did the job.

However, some are stupidly simple, beam down, walk around this area, scan 5 of these things and you're done. Something could be done a bit better here, my thoughts, all it needs is a bit more of a puzzle element. Nothing too hard, but say hide those things I need to scan in some caves so they're not all there on a neatly marked out path, add a few traps, shiny things to interact with that perhaps you shouldn't (go mess with that computer console and out pops an angry drone you've got to fight). Perhaps a situation where you need a science officer operating one console, and an engineering officer on another. Not thinking wildly complex problems, but just enough to make you do something different each time. A little bit randomised so you have to stop and at least put an ounce of thought into it.

That also raises another thing, I'm playing a tactical class, when I beam down and scan something, well I shouldn't be the one scanning it, I'd expect my science officer to run forward and scan it. If I need to use a console, get my engineer to do it... That's why you beam down with specialists (in the show) not to recharge your health & put up turrets/forcefields, or whatever they do. A little bit more interaction with/from your team would be nice.

Personally I think all this could be done without too much difficulty within the current engine, just a little more creativity.

Otherwise I'm quite enjoying the game for the moment.
