Worst Update Ever (Season 1.1)

Ok, I'm going to take the liberty of doing everything we get tired of hearing on the forums, from bad memes, to flame bait, to anything goes. Why am I going to do openly target my character's forehead and initialize an expose attack? I've just completely lost any and all faith in the Cryptic development process for STO.

It's a sad day for me. I had my share of complaints and criticism of Cryptic in the past, but now I must do a 180 degree turn (or may be a 124 degree?) and join the "this game sux" camp or Atari/Cryptic haters. :( Don't get me completely wrong though, as I'm a lifer and still get some enjoyment form STO (even if that enjoyment is dwindling down to an MMO addict's routine).

And what is the root of my complaints? As if we have enough community left to even care. ;) ... Well, my complaint is two-fold. First it's that our community has dwindled to little more than lifers and die-hard fans (no insult intended, so I won't use the f-name for die-hard fans). Most of the MMO gamers, most of the monthly subbers, and almost all of the hardcore gamers have left. But that's just an end-result result, not a contributing factor. The two-fold part --- the cause -- is that (yes I'll say), Cryptic has convinced me they're less than fully competent when it comes to MMO development. Did that sting, or did that label me as one of "those" complainers?

Yes, I know the flames will come because criticizing STO or Cryptic is like criticizing a fan's offspring. But please don't take it personally. It's just my opinion that I've developed over THE LONG HAUL of following Cryptic and STO ever since before Closed Beta. I've just reached a point where I give up trying to be patient, trying to wait-it-out, and trying to make excuses for Cryptic. And I really did want to see STO prosper and flourish because I've invested plenty of myself into it as well. I'm sure one day it will get better, but I'm beginning to think it will get worse first.

And it's thanks to Season 1.1 update. Which seems like it was thrown at us without any Q/A testing what-so-ever. Seriously, (yes, I used an overused forum meme there), is it too much trouble to ask an MMO developer to do an hour or two of testing before they release things? Some of the blatant bugs I've seen could have easily been discovered in a rough once-over.

From skills, to the difficulty slider and settings, to UI, to promised things listed in the release notes that aren't there (ie: camera fixes, RSP modifiers, etc., etc.), it seems we're getting a rushed, untested update for a game that is already buggy, rough around the edges, and seriously lacking end-game content.

So what are we paying for? An unfinished product with patches that introduce more bugs than we had prior to the updates?

With that said, I do realize that there are quite a bit of positives related to STO. I know the potential is there too. I know some devs are pouring their heart and soul into this title. Yet all of the passion and good intentions in the world for a handful of people don't alone make for a successful product, especially if the other handful(s) of people at Cryptic aren't doing things correctly (ie: Q/A, content development).

Am I alone in being totally frustrated with STO's development so far, Cryptic? Am I not "getting it" as your CCO Jack put it? I know others in my fleet who are playing other MMOs while they wait for more content. And I know others who are frustrated with the new bugs every patch, but still plow on since they have hope for some unreached potential. I've seen the criticism here on the forums. So why does it feel like we're just banging our heads against a brickwall called Cryptic? If I pretend really hard will that wall ever move?

I must be really, really lucky or something. I don't really run into bugs in this game. Not only that, but I've been extremely pleased with a lot of the changes they made in 1.1.

I can certainly understand what you are saying. I've mostly felt the same way since I started playing this game. However, I feel the oppsosite about this patch. It adds a lot of little things (and some not so little) that this game really needed. I've only run into a couple bugs, which is better than I can say for other patches.

If we were sitting in a bar I'd buy you a beer. Here, have an imaginary one. Or whatever drink you prefer. You just expressed, very eloquently, what a lot of people with whom I've been playing this game since open beta have been feeling lately. So, in regard to your reaction to this latest update, know that you are not alone.

I agree with the OP this was a bad update, all it did was cater to hardcore players. Between the hard swing of the nerf bat on Science officers and super borg and a silly difficulty slider that only goes up, the only good thing in this patch was the TOS uniform update and the commodities fix. Other then that its bugs, nerfs and hardcore nonsense. I think even the PvPers are upset with this patch.

i've come across 3 bugs today.
    1) PvP Daily is broken for my Klingon.
    2) Empty Daily Exploration mission. Then i had another which i couldn't complete.
    3) Ship Class details are missing from enemy info.

    Not a satified customer.

Edit: Make that 4. One of my Tricobalt launchers won't work.

I don't know. It would certainly help if you listed the actual bugs rather than going on a very long and very vague rant. Personally, I haven't encountered any bugs with the 1.1 update yet, and I've been enjoying some of the new features, so I don't really know what bugs you're referring to.

My suggestion is to complain about specific problems, not make a general, pointiless rant.

Personally I love the last patch, been having a blast of time today and can't wait for the next to hit.

Might just be me but sounds like you have a lot of rage from well before this patch....

honestly they are trying to make players happy and get more stuff in the game, I can't blame them for rushing a bit but they've done an awesome job imho.

as far as testing goes however, did you log into the test server to help test? If not, you might want try it and help them find those nasty little bugs. If you did and they missed some stuff, they've shown that they jump on top of critical bug pretty quickly.

They pushed out some very large things that the players requested, they are trying to make us happy. Things won't be perfect, bugs creep into games in most all MMO's it's unfortunate but it happens.

That being said just so you know I'm a lifer, and yes I've been frustrated as well to the point where I haven't been able to recommend this game to many, yet....

I see that changing soon, but hey that's me.

    .

Thats the problem, we got a few uniforms and such. People want more content, more missions more to do. I doa lot of pvp now and thats dead and this not letting me out of a mission with 5 klinks and 0 feds is a joke (it dose happen) . Come on cryptic, some more missions, more for my admerial to do. fix pvp as besides the screen looking nice in game nothing was done that I can see.

Not speaking for the OP, but I paid to PLAY this game, not to get on the test server and do Cryptic's drudge work for them. They have - or should have - people who ensure product quality. If they want me to 'help' test things, they can cut me a paycheck.

I can understand the OP's frustration, even though I am not sure specifically what he is referring too.

Personally, I have found this patch to be a welcome change. I have not encountered any bugs that were not already there. The Klingon Exploration missions not spawning enemy? That was a problem before the patch. Basically, I am saying that I haven't found any new bugs.

What this patch illustrates to me that no matter what is put out, some people are not going to be happy with it. Sometimes I will even be included in the unhappy folks and sometimes I won't. The truth, as I see it, is the game is progressing and is growing. For those that say the playerbase is shrinking, I have seen no sign of this. As a matter of fact I have seen more people than usual. More players at Qonos, more at Sol so I am not sure what others are seeing.

I'm with the OP, the changes for the PvP is really terrible:

    1) Cruiser suck even worse in PvP. Death by Bleedthrough (even with RSP).

    2) If you want to win, PvP in Escorts!

    3) Haha, I just Jammed you to use up Science Team, now I can VM you and SNB on top of that so you're frozen for over 1 minute!

    4) Daily Mess - 3 Matches? No No, you got to PvP in over 8 matches and waste 4 hours of your time to earn those 5 Marks of Honor!

They'd didn't have to create a Test Server for everyone - but they did. You'd be surprised at how many bugs wouldn't be there if it weren't for testers on Tribble.

That's okay - we testers will do the hard work so you can complain about it on the other end.

I also tested holodeck for a while today - no bugs. Leveled my alt a bit too. The commodity missions seemed to have improved since they were on Tribble.

Other than one of my options being changed, I have no problem with the update. I was ready to do defend xx missions until I ranked up in order to get new missions. But the new diplomacy missions are going to help.

Have no problems at all (sans the aforementioned one)

Most of the bugs go live.
Problems i raised 3 weeks ago about Klingon exploration content GO LIVE and still are LIVE.

Cryptic is adding new content, creating more bugs and the older bugs are swept aside.
Its obvious now that they rank the seriousness of the bugs.
If it isn't a high priority it left in the game.

Yes, and a few mine are too, but could you imagine how many of Season One's extensive bugfixes wouldn't have made it live had there not been a test server?

My issue isn't that the game is perfect (it isn't), my issue was someone complaining about having players test changes and not counting all the good changes that come from it. :)

Yes i realize that they need more content, that's one of the reasons I can't recommend this game, Yet... But They have said it's coming,I believe they said new missions should be coming by the 2.0 update which is only a couple months away along with the lvl cap raise,

Players Asked for the difficulty slider, the DP, the exchange improvements, the Space Auto-fire, the memory alpha,,,,, oh wait I know it didn't make it but they held it back b/c of bugs (that's a good thing). The list goes on but hopefully that is enough.

Now keep in mind also that Klingon missions were sorely missing and they have been trying to get it to where players want to see it. They had different plans, but they changed them b/c people wanted it. So leaves a lot less time to fill in that content that's missing, they are doing it in a sense though it's just that they have to play catchup with missions a bit i think. While the dev's that work on missions are busy with klingon content the rest are working on other areas, things take time,

I'm not saying things are perfect, but I'm not expecting perfection, I have got to give them props for the amount they have done already that isn't just fluff.

I feel the same op... all the hope I had for this game has died and the paramedics are trying to bring back to life... What crush me the most was the difficulty slider... Come on! This isn't a single player game installed on your computer, it's a mmo! pvp sucks more, my cruiser is **** cause I'm tac... sigh... Maybe someday, probably when I'm earning pension, the game might get better... Sigh...

    Agreed.
Some major bugs have been quashed because of Tribble.

And it's thanks to Season 1.1 update. Which seems like it was thrown at us without any Q/A testing what-so-ever. I'd say it's not lack of testing but lack of fixing. Then again, lots of more subtle bugs (from the test enviroment perspective) likely weren't noticed because of the hunt to narrow down the large-scale irregularities in the functionality of the single major new feature, the Difficulty Slider.

If some reports are accurate, the scaling didn't even stay the same between Tribble and Holodeck. Good grief.
