i believe the displayed value is the valued per side.

check your ship status and look at the defense tab...it should show the facing values...which should be the same as the advertised value.

Perhaps the reduction of his shield value is do to that ship purchase bug...did it get smushed yet? Where your ship stats reflect that of the last ship you recently purchased.

There's been a shield display bug which hits occassional for awhile now. Your shields didn't get weakend. The display of the value is just not correct. Of course if you changed ship styles the value of the shields also change. What is 9900 on a Science Vessel would only be about 7650 on a Cruiser, and it would be around 5,000 on an Escort.

To make that clearer....There is a BUG, whatever ship you buy last is the ship that your stats for Weapons and Shields are set to. You buy a StarCruiser, and your shields are say ...7000. Then you buy a runabout at DS9. Lo' behold the magic of your shields on your Starcruiser now being only 2500. Yes, that IS the actual rating, and if you take said Star Cruiser into combat, you'll go down faster then a one-legged *@#^ from Tijuana. You can dismiss your Runabout (Or whatever ship you bought last, to return to the previous "Last ship" if you want to, or you can buy another ship if you have the credits and the extra slot. The "testers" and I use that term loosly, never bother to check what happens if you buy a ship that would be considered a "downgrade", they only tested what happens as you buy better ships. This sort of bug, which could seriously impeed a player who wasn't paying close attention is the kind of bug that should prevent a game from being released. I have worked for many large studios, and in my opinion this bug is a serious one. But despite the testers being incompetent, or if the producers were being impatient for their cash cow to start paying off and decided to ignore the testers (Very likely), the bug got through and is still in game as a problem.

Personally, I don't get this. MMO's have a monthly fee for the expansive content, and multiplayer features etc. Most MMO's take at least a few months to hit the level cap. I have hit the CP twice in a week. I have my ships fully equiped, my BO's trained exactly as I want them. Outside of daily missions (No point in those as I am fully equiped on all 16 ships anyway) what content is there? Any MMO ...wait...let's drop that first "m" shall we? Any Multiplayer Online game that can be "beaten" twice with nothing left to do after a week....what's the monthly fee for? I have yet to be charged my first months fee, and I've already cancelled the account, so I won't be charged. Does anyone have a valid reason a player should pay the monthly fee, with absolutly ZERO content left already?

No, you have it slightly wrong. There WAS a bug which caused the DISPLAYED values of your shields (and other things) to use the modifiers of the last vessel that you bought. To repeat, it only affected the DISPLAYED values. The real values in combat (where ther really mattered) weren't affected by the bug. And that DISPLAY bug is now fixed. The shield values for you ship/equipment are now display properly.

THE ACTUAL SHIELDS VALUES HAVEN'T CHANGED.

I noticed this today too. Covariant shields went from a little over 10,000 down to 7,838 and the regeneration rate is down as well. Search the forums and you'll see complaints about the incorrect shield values go back many months!

I went back to earth space dock and looked up the MK X Covariant shields there and they're still displaying at 10,189 with 170 regeneration rate every 6 seconds. Same shields on my ship are now 7,838 with regeneration rate down to 131.

You might be right, I may be wrong. As of yesterday, buying a new ship sets the "displayed" value to the last ship bought. So that displayed bug that was supposedly fixed is in fact not fixed.

As for "Is it actually only a Displayed value problem", I can't answer with certainty. I can only say that enemies that were easy to fight before seem to be able to do more damage to me now, and in some cases flat out kill me when before they could not. It could be that the Captain (Me) was drinking Romulan Ale at the Helm (possible) but more likely it is some other factor.

To touch briefly on my other concern: I'm quite serious. I'm looking for a reason to continue to play STO, but thus far cannot justify paying the monthly fee. Has anyone RA5 found a reason to play daily (Other than Daily missions) that makes it worth your time and money? While the game has MANY faults, I enjoy Star Trek enough that I did every mission I could, no matter how mundane. So far, my only reason to continue to play has been to help my fleet and any lower levels "Captains" on their missions when they ask. I'm losing the fight to find a valid reason to play anymore. When is the level cap going to go up, when is more content going to be available?
