I was looking at the release calender for next month and I noticed that Caitains are going to be released in May.
I have been waiting for this since launch and I'm happy to see that we are finally going to move towards less humanoid characters and more interesting customization options.
Whether you love it or hate it, I'd like to hear other people's opinions on this.
So far, Caitians are the only species they're releasing in the C-store that I want to buy. Caitians are going to have unique animations and hopefully will have some pretty good bonuses. I plan to buy one. BTW, they're on the schedule to go to Tribble on May 14th, saw that in a dev post today.

If they don't have great bonuses I have a feeling Caitian fans will storm Cryptic....
Anyway the reason we get Caitions and not content is because content designers aren't the same as character designers so while the content guys are beefing up season 2 the character designers might as well be doing something.
The only way I could think of character designers helping content would be to keep creating more types of enemies and really I don't need there to be 60 variations on the "Borg Heavy Tactical Drone".

Yeah, dstahl is pretty good about updating that info. I swear, he responded to my question on the tribble ETA for Caitians in less than an hour. Never have I experienced that kind of response time from a MMO company. Good on dstahl and hazzah for Caitians! (Get busy Matt, pitchforks and torches are ready and waiting  )

Caitians have never been about the bonuses. It all about the looks and having the appropriate parts of the race. Most Caitian players have already made an alien/Caitian creation just so we could have the look of one. Although, if the traits are horrible I'll be disappointed, but I'll still play one!
this will be my main and my 1st RA
one thing is as a C-store thing we cant test them on tribble
Unless they make them available to test on Tribble without needing the C-store. They may go into the C-store once released to Holodeck, but on tribble they may be part of the normal character creation screen. I'm hoping anyway.

hopefully we will wind-up with some screenshots before it goes to holodeck.
I don't play on tribble.
truly disappointed with this. Adding a race that never appeared in any Star Trek series or movie and one that attracts the wrong sort of person. Should never have been considered.

The first part of your statement is false as they appeared in TAS (Voiced by none other than Majel Barret, no less). The latter part of your statement is flame bait that has been debated five ways to sunday and back again.

And CBS changed it back to canon again about when they started releasing TAS DVD collections.
As I keep saying. There is no canon. It used to be an archive for continuity and ended with Rodenberry. However he did state that TAS was not canon, not Star Trek. That aside, what you need to know is that even if there was an appearance in the first series of TAS those unique new characters were created outside of the scope of the rights license and as such had to all be replaced. Which included your caitian.
As someone will mention the 'caitian in the movie' you need to be aware of the character descriptions by Mandel. The character in the film was a Kzinti male.
as for the last part of my statement it's not flame bait at all but statement of fact. The internet is full of proof for that.

wrong sort of person?
wrong sort of person?
well first of all, if you are playing an MMO you aren't the best kind of person to begin with.
Secondly, if you are referring to "furries", few in the furry community actually have fur fetishes or do any of the ... stuff ... you may have heard about and those that do already have sexual issues.
Thirdly, Caitains are appealing to many players, not just furries.
and finally, who really cares what kind of "preferences" other players have! You will probably never meet them in real life!
btw, Caitains appeared in the animated series (which is soft canon I'll admit), and appeared in the background in one of the films
This really makes no sense... please elaborate... do you hate cats or something?
I do hate cats yes. they are vermin. But that's got nothing to do with anthropomorphic fetishists.
I'm not having argument about it. I've said my piece. Too many of these furries think they belong. Being removed for legal reasons from TAS and NOT being in ST IV ( your caitian is described as small, slender and golden, looking like an Abyssinian, as opposed to what you see in the movie which is the heavy, orange Kzinti, makes me disagree that they belong.

I must admit, you make a valid point.
but why can't we have both?
other than the lack of manpower at cryptic

I don't know if i would want to play as one, but a Caitain female tactical bridge officer would be epic!

ahhh... decisions, decisions
lol
hahahahaha
Also, would you mind explaining what you mean by "wrong sort of person" ??
The federation is about tolerance and social liberty, afterall...

They were in the STO cartoon series. One was shown to be an admiral in the voyage home.

:rolls eyes:
really?
the haters have moved in and they are saying baseless stuff.
how do you know?
unless...
unless of course you look at that kind of stuff...
You can't get NORMAL RP in spacedock, what on earth makes you think there would be pervs?
Get your mind out of the gutter...

Is it that big of a deal?
