From reading the new faction poll thread, it seems some people are under the misunderstanding that the results show that people want Borg after Romulan, since Borg have the next highest results. However, this is simply wrong. This poll did not allow people to choose the order they want factions introduced into the game, it made they choose the one they wanted the most. Therefore, if Romulan had not been an option, the vast majority of people who voted for it could have voted for anything else(and based on what people have said in most threads, probably would have voted for Cardassian).
The point is, the results of the current poll mean NOTHING about anything AFTER Romulans, because all those people who voted for Romulans would be voting differently for what faction comes next. Lets just hope the Devs have another poll after this one without Romulans being an option to get an accurate display of what people want after Romulans.
I could actually see one and only one way Borg could work.
If it was little more than a Left 4 Dead zombie-side PvP faction, with no real gear or inventory, just you picking which subtype of mini-boss borg you'll play, and each time you are killed, you take control of another mini-boss borg back at a recharge station.
That's it.
Left 4 Dead "verses" mode, but with Borg, not zombies.
Oh, and I want Ferengi style gameplay now, not after someone re-skins Fed/Klink to Romulan. Why the heck would we want yet another faction that does effectively the same thing as the feds and klingons, when there's Ferengi barter/trade/smuggling/crafting/modifying to be had?
Hate to break this to you, but you have no free will in the Federation either.
It was painfully obvious that Admiral Zelle was not who she appeared to be, yet I had no choice but to follow orders and wipe out a starbase filled with innocent scientists and doctors....

Just to be clear, this is not an anti-Borg thread, nor is it meant to discuss how a Borg faction could work. Its purpose is simply to state that the poll results only show the most popular faction, nothing else after that.
Yes; I suspect, too, that at least the game's developers realise this, even if the marketing staff would probably draw the false conclusion that the Borg are what people want next.

Absolutely! I think if they ever decide to introduce a fourth faction a new poll should be conducted to accurately collect interest.
What are you all on about by the way, free will lol
Your playing one of the most scripted games I've come accross, so much so a lot of people ranted it feels like a single player game. You get told what do do and where to go. Your in a sort of military you don't have freewill at all, your governed by rules also. If you use your freewill you will be taking to court.
OK so thats me going to your level.
Heres me on normal level, its just a game. Borg would be fun, Borg could have access to every ship in the game just with Borg tech all over it.
Also what happens to Borg when disconnected from the hive mind? They are still Borg
Borg were the second most chosen as a #1 preferred faction when considered alongside Romulan, Cardassian, Dominion, and Vorta. That surprised me more than Romulans (we already knew they'd win - if only because they have warbird).
Borg are the second most popular, playable faction.
wrong. this is a "what faction would you like FIRST" poll, not "which faction do you want added most" poll. I am willing to bet my in-game fortune that if you could have voted for multiple options borg would be way at the bottom. except for horta, since that was really just a joke faction or something.

/Agree. Had Romulans not been in the list, I would have voted Cardassian or Dominion.

You apparently either didnt read the OP or still dont understand.

Borg wouldn't even be on the list if I was in charge, but actually I'd love to see Horta as a faction since they are silicon-based life-forms and may be able to shift their bodies into humanoid form, so I wouldn't throw the Horta out the air-lock just yet.
I wouldn't throw the Borg out the airlock either. There are many directions to go in with them as a playable faction. I'd rather see what their ideas are first before dismissing them.

Would anything but Sphere/Cube ships and a Hive Mind where every player was equivalent to Locutus of Borg still be BORG at all?! Because if Cryptic designed anything else, I wouldn't call it BORG, but a completely different faction that splintered off the BORG, and if Cryptic did design a BORG faction with only two designs for ships and we'd all be like Locutus of Borg, well... that just seems pretty boring to me... and quite futile.
Well if you want to get all nerdy (and I don't mean that in any kind of derogatory way) with the Trek-nicalites, I wouldn't call what we have now the Federation or Klingon Empire.
In terms of gameplay, what you do now as a Federation Captain is not much different than playing a Borg Drone. You don't have free will... you can't really say "no" to an Admiral giving you orders, you can't excercise decision making in any real sense, so all you have is a different story.
For all anyone knows, perhaps the Borg playable faction will be those impacted by Hugh. They act differently that your classic Borg, but they are still Borg. I'd rather wait to see what they have in mind before poo pooing the idea.
You apparently either didnt read the OP or still dont understand.
Or I meant that more players chose Borg as their #1 preferred choice than I expected. That's all the poll shows: the number one preferred faction for a given player.
You can say that about the poll - even if run-off voting would favor other factions. However, that would essentially miss the point of choosing your #1 preferred new faction - all the Romulan voters would be all over the place - rendering that conclusion meaningless until we see it.
U.S. federal elections run the same way at the moment, you can't make multiple selections - just your top one.

You may have forgotten, but here is what you said:
"Borg are the second most popular, playable faction."
And that is incorrect. The second most popular player faction would be what the most people want AFTER Romulans. However, to determine that you would have to have a new poll WITHOUT Romulans as an option so that all the people who voted for Romulans in the first poll could then vote for what faction they want next. Then the results of that poll would show the second most popular faction.

"Borg are the second most popular, playable faction."
And that is incorrect. The second most popular player faction would be what everyone wants AFTER Romulans, meaning all the people who voted for Romulans would get to vote again. Then the results of THAT poll would determine what is in fact the second most popular.

You're making an argumentum ad ignorantiam (thought I'd agree with you, if making predictions). The only thing we can infer from the data is that more people chose Borg as their #1 preferred next faction when considered alongside Romulans, Cardassians, Dominion, Vorta.
However, for the next playable faction, according to polling, - they're second most, preferred as #1 choice faction.
As to whether it would it'd be number one after Romulans are removed, probably not. I agree there and have no argument. My wording is imprecise - I relent that and have changed my post to read:
Borg were the second most chosen as a #1 preferred faction when considered alongside Romulan, Cardassian, Dominion, and Vorta

I voted Romulan myself. After Roms I want a playable Ferengi faction. =D
after roms i hope they take a LONG time before adding more

we have no idea who the people who voted for romulan would then vote for.
if they ever make a fourth faction they would have to make a new poll, and im sure they will

couldn't have said it better myself.
Say NO to Borg!
Absolutely! I think if they ever decide to introduce a fourth faction a new poll should be conducted to accurately collect interest.
so at that point.. we get to vote en mass again... And you'll al vote undine.. or else!
... though seriously.. seems to be half n half with the rommie voters.. definatly be neck and neck between the borg, spoon heads and dominion.

But as some have said, I do not want to see Borg as a playable faction until they have exhausted all other options, and I mean all...
