Am I the only one who's hoping that in the next year or so - together with more playable Federation races - we will be able to play the FERENGI as well? On their own? Like, imagine the possibilities! A new kind of mission, money related/trade related, with negotiations or raids on convoys! It would be so cool!! With diplomacy involved!
I would like a privateer/smuggler faction myself. Your own reffited ship from all races smuggling contraband to all sectors. Outrunning the big Corelian cruis.....I mean Federation cruisers or evading Klingon blockades for credits and equipment to upgrade you beat up old ship. Maybe in season 6 or 7.
there's no reason a ferengi based fleet couldn't be established, roleplayed appropriately, dedicated to all things profit.

sounds like a faction to me, otherwise those missions would be available to all feds species as well
While I know that Romulans and Cardassians (in that order) and likely even Borg (good grief I hope that never happens) are the popular choices, I firmly feel a "neutral" faction based on trade and crafting would do this game more good than another faction with the same attributes and goals as the 2 existing ones (well... 1.5 existing ones, lol)
Ferengi is my personal first choice for a 3rd faction. I've been saying it since Beta.
Focusing on obtaining, trading, and smuggling goods, crafting or modifying them, and doing it all for the latinum, not glory or exploration. THAT is my idea of a 3rd approach to gaming and an appropriate 3rd Faction.
I still want Romulans eventually, maybe even Cardassians. But the quickest way to vastly expand the game's population is to expand its appeal to the "Uncle Owen" player (as we called them in SWG pre-NGE). It should of course also include the human and Orion traders, but all under a Ferengi trade alliance banner. To work, faction-centric weapons and equipment need to cease to be available to the opposing side. No more Disruptors at Sol. No more Phasers at Quo'nos. Only by being smuggled in with this 3rd faction to an exchange-like black market NPC by players, for latinum or barter.
A complex barter system and a 3rd, latinum-based economy would be needed. Aid missions could become amusing, with Ferengi merchants bringing their ships into clusters to trade aid supplies for phaser or disruptor technologies. A dangerous haul of buffing tribbles slipped into Klingon space to provide to the Orion and Naussican captains...
So yeah, I think a Ferengi faction would be amazing. But no, I doubt the rest of the population would stand it coming before Romulans and Cardassians.
Problem with all the other factions is they are too similiar. There will be no feel of changed gameplay but Ferenghi done right or Borg there will be so I do partly agree,
Only advanced I see for Romulan is to get into PvP with cloaks against Klingons

I agree with this 1000%, but know faction specific weapons will never be enforced, we're too far down that road of mixing things up, to go back now.
I don't want to play a Federation Ferengi. I want to play a real Ferengi.
While I support the idea of wanting to play a Ferengi Alliance ferengi ... because I support all things ferengi in this game, I would like to take a moment to point out that Nog and the rest of the ferengi who have since followed in his pioneering footsteps and joined starfleet are REAL ferengi.
Don't insult his legacy just because you can't find profit in such an endeavor.
Traders, Smugglers, Pirates, Mercenaries and Lunatics (Lord Garth for example)
Don't forget to include Pakleds. While they don't have the best of reputations, they steal, sell stuff, and are untrustworthy. A few might have made it into Starfleet, but the race as a whole could belong to the Ferengi faction.

checked the c-store lately????
I was gonna say the same thing.
the OP means a ferengi faction
Ferengi, Orions, Naucassans (sp?), Humans (Cyrano jones, Mudd, etc.)
Traders, Smugglers, Pirates, Mercenaries and Lunatics (Lord Garth for example)
Pirate Faction sound fine though... without OpenPVP? Who you gonna steel stuff from? NPC's? *meh*
but yeah there is potential, but the game isn't there yet.
Give it one or two years and a lot more items.

EDIT - unless the OP wishes to correct me
no where does he say 'faction', thats your interpretation.
so that part was not good enough?
your trying to get me on semantics now, just because he did not use the word faction.
maybe ive misunderstood him but it sure sounds like we wants a separate ferengi group other than just a ferengi fed. maybe im wrong
It is not only possible, It has already been done. I have a Ferengi that is part of a Ferengi trade fleet (started it yesterday).
Of course we have another fleet providing goods, but our only goal is to sell for profit.
A full blown Ferengi trade faction would be absolutely great.
nor do i particularly care, i'm patching atm, 657mb
It would be wise to wait till the servers came back up before patching....
Some people got bit in the TRIBBLE doing that about a month ago.
to late now
