Cryptic marketing what are you doing to turn monthly subs into lifers ?

Ok so Ive been playing the game since launch and i gave it a while to make my mind up on the game however im thinking yeah i like the game and im now thinking about a lifetime sub. However as far as i can see theres no real benefit apart form no monthly sub, a captains table, and my name being in blue. For £192 I really dont see how its value for money. You get no extra content, no benefit for dropping this amount of money. I would have at least thought maybe you could include additional character slots for lifers, all uniforms, exclusive content. If this game is to keep going id be asking what are marketing doing to keep subs/turn subs into lifers. Can anyone please tell me where is the value for money in becoming a lifer ?

Thanks

Simple: After a certain time you play for free (except maybe one addon every once in a while). That's the whole point of the lifetime sub.

actually zaroph im a monthly subscriber, but im asking/my question is i like the game but should i carry on as a monthly subscriber or is there a real benefite to spending £192 on a lifetime sub. I dont see why lifetimers shouldnt get more content/free stuff. £192 for this game to fail in less than 20 months (its roughly £10 a month as a monther) is a lot of money so what benefit is there to a lifetime sub ? if i can see one im happy to part with the money but right now im having trouble justifying it.

simple, you pay a lump sum now that is the equivalent of 16 months (or what every it works out as) and once you get past that the game becomes free to play

if you dont ever plan to play more than that, then no its no really worth it.

It is a gamble. If it pays off, you save lots of money in the long run. If not, then it kinda stinks. If you don't see the value in it, then don't buy the life. However, seeing as you are even asking i think you DO see the value and you want to get it, but you are making some weak attempt for a Dev to come on and "help you over the fence" with extra goodies.

Back before the game launched I got the Lifetime sub when it was on special, having done the math it equated to two years of regular subscriptions fees, now that the price has dramatically jumped I really do not know if it's still worth it aside from the convenience factor, unless of course the game ends up living like five years+ (oh yes, that will be flamed) in which case you've essentially gotten 3 years free.

With that said Cryptic probably does not want all of the subscribers going Lifer, if they did and the game DID have a long life than there goes the profit margin neighborhood.

I've not regretted my decision a day, I love this game and if you do too and are considering going for it, my opinion is go for it.

no im not looking for freebies but at the moment its a big risk and this game could fail. If it does so within 20 months then i will have felt ripped off. I do think though cryptic could be doing a better job of pushing lifetime subs and theyre not. Bonuses for lifers would soften the blow if this game is to fail (which obviously i hope it doesnt) Im just questioning (and i do this with everything i buy) what is the value for money in a lifetime sub.

For me there's two factors that would make me think about LTS.

1 - The potential for burn-out is huge with the state of the game - the more hours/week you put in (at the moment) the less appeal the game will have for many.
2 - If you look at the development plan stuff is 'coming' all the time. The longer this takes the more 'wasted' monthly subs (or you go through the sub/cancel/sub process, never really knowing whether to come back)

With those factors affecting the game LTS is a good thing for me.
I've not maxed one character yet because I knew end-game was lacking, and seeing the difficulty slider in action on Tribble has put me off playing at all for a while because that's a real plus for me.

If I was paying monthly I might want to play more per month (to get my money's worth) and I'd certainly be more demanding about dev progress - having 'forever' gives, me at least, a different outlook.
I'm a very casual gamer (when it comes to focusing on single games) now so I have other things to do while I wait for STO to get the things it needs and the LTS means I can come and go whenever (as I do with LOTRO).

I have a lifetime here, CO, and lotro. Lotro is now three years old. I am well past my point of investment there. Lotro will be around for another three years at least, considering the fellowship is still only in Lothlorien. CO, sadly, was a mistake to get because of the bait and switch they pulled with the launch day nuke patch. At least I have my mirror universe uniforms. :)

With STO, they never really completed the game. It's going to take at least another year to make enough content to match a launch day of a current mmo. Maybe even longer now that they are wasting time developing another mmo that will also probably be only 1/3rd finished when they launch it.

I have my RA spinning in circles waiting for something to happen and I have my alts I'm goofing off with. Eventually when they bring out new factions I'll have those to play with. With lotro it was take my time to get to cap (which I haven't even done yet) but with sto it's wait for them to finish the game.

Either way I have a lifetime account so I can take my time with both. Who knows? maybe a year from now if CO is still around they'll get around to finishing that too and I'll have that to play.

I do not advise anyone to lifetime subscribe, until you get to RA5, and decide that what is available to you from then on (other than grinding more characters to RA5) is fun.

You can easily do this within your first month of playing.
