BO voices...Cryptic, please! :D

I'm sitting here listening to the Ferengi BO officer voices... and they are so FUNNY!

"You fight! I'll watch.."

"Captain! They're... gone sir."

"Gratitude is free. Have some of mine."

I really hope you guys get them in sometime soon!

I noticed that a LOT of them were just placeholders for eventual sounds, and that the poor girl who did the Female Russian Accent sounded like she got tired of the job eventually. lol

If you guys want people who can help you record them, I'll volunteer for free!

EDIT: I just got to the Gorn BO voices... hahahaha! "Incoming messsssssage, ssssssss--Captain!"

I've been campaigning for it, but I think all of it has gotten lost in the sea of other user feedback. :(

What's the holdup on BO voices? Is it cost?

Almost definitly, cost and implementation. There's a lot of points in the game when they were in that the boffs tone of voice sounded...wrong. Even like a simple "Captain, there's something strange over here" when they found an anomoly sometimes had odd implications. For instance he might have found some terrifying horror that drives a person mad if they look at it directly, and in a facinated, wonderous tone they say "Oh my....Captain come here you need to see this...it's...Amazing!".

And fully voiced episodes are damn costly.

They have flavor VO recorded for the BOs but they cut the volume on them WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY down because they decided that no VOs were better than the VO they had. I personally disagree.

I'm not interested in full VO but some VO is better than none. And I'd take a bad VO over none because the community will provide feedback on what they like and what they don't and some can be replaced later, budget and time permitting.

You've got the content, Cryptic. You paid for it. Release it.

And then if there are one or two nobody likes, maybe have a contest to be the new voice. I mean, the Trek SHOWS had contests for walk on roles. If it's a SAG issue, the cost of one or two characters being recorded wouldn't be that impossible, even if you had to buy the winner SAG membership and pay them one hour's scale. Run as a contest rather than conventional hiring, you'd get your $600 worth of publicity out of each role (what I'd estimate SAG dues and an hour of scale would cost) because every MMO site on the planet would cover it, every Trek site would cover it and you'd have aspiring VO talent falling over themselves to subscribe to the game if a game sub was required to enter (which you have done on contests before).

Er. Okay. Might have oversimplified. I was NOT aware of the initiation fee or background checks to join.

Apparently, I'm not currently eligible to join SAG. That's a far cry from what I was reading a few years ago when it seemed that anyone could join.

It wouldn't have to be SAG. It could be AFTRA also. When I contacted Tim Russ about providing voice work for STO he told me he was a AFTRA member, so I do believe that would be ok as well.

Huh, this is really strange. I could have sworn I saw BO voices on the calander for season 2 or 2.1 content, but when I went to check the calander it wasn't there. I don't know if I am imagining things or if they removed june and beyond from the calender.

Anyways, BO voicovers were tons of fun, but very limited. There was no deep voice, no gravely voice, no optimistic voice, etc. Most races had one option, which meant my grizzled old vulcan medic sounded like a 20 something fresh faced cadet. On top of that they had a tendancy to get stuck on one voice in the alien creator, which lead to unintentionally hilarious combinations.

Big fan of the voices though, hopefully when they bring them back it will be done right.

We really wanted to get the BO voices into the game, and for those who've found some leftover placeholder blurbs - you can get a feel for how cool it is. Unfortunately, the more we played around with it in missions, the more we realized that it was going to be a mammoth undertaking to get it to sound right in most cases. There's just a ton of content in the game and we weren't happy with where we were at in the schedule to get this in. So give it time and you never know - you just might end up with that Gorn officer raspping.... "Yeeessssss.... Captainnnnnsssss." (oh how I loved that)...

That may be some of the issue with Chase Masterson if she's AFTRA.

If Atari IS bound by union commitments (and a lot of video game studios are predominantly non-union), it likely would have involved inking a deal with SAG to publish Ghostbusters.

I do hope you can get them in sometime this year and a huge wish would be to get them in for Season 3.

IF you ever add this, PLEASE also include a toggle setting to disable it. I experienced the few days in Beta when the officers and mission contacts tried to talk. I was not impressed, and it was definitely *not* something I'd want to put up with every moment I played the game. (And honestly, if my only choice is between listening to the BOs and contacts parroting the same phrases in the same annoying accents, and playing some other game, I'd be playing some other game.)

I really like the voices when they worked, course being a bethesda game fan i'm quite used to hearing odd general sayings that don't quite fit the situation and i've long since been fine with that.

though as i said, when they worked, at one point my vulcan boff had a gorn voice, was funny.... for a while.

We do voice chat in my fleet.

Even if the bridge officers had voice overs, I wouldn't hear them. I would be busy listening to people with important things to say.

Must be playing another game because I see nothing of "mamoth" size in terms on content. Having a BO say a thing here and there for standard actions is most definetely not the "cure for cancer" you make it to be. Games have been doing that since the early 90s.

I definitely enjoyed listening to what you had. Like I said, the Ferengi and the Gorn were HILARIOUS. I love how the Gorn would be trying to say 'Sir' and instead interrupt himself and say 'Captain.'

I really hope you can get it in eventually.

It would def be nice to have, but I also realize the cost for that much voice work would likely be prohibitive.

Still, the game does have an eerie silence to it in this regard. Would be nice to have something.

Agreed, the game could use a nice layer of voiceover for added flavor and realism.

I was talking to someone earlier about this and I have to agree that it would just be too awsome.

A bridge officer telling you that you are being hailed by an enemy captain or a base commander would just be sweet.

Perhaps even when your clicking the engineering team button you get a voiceover saying "Repair teams en rout captain".

"Torpedoes set for high yield captain, you may now lay waste to the enemy vessel when ready"

    +1 /signed.
