Well, I got this item from the C-Store. A light phaser satellite.

Have anyone found a use for it yett? Every time I deply it, it gets shot down, and with the 10 min CD it is almost imposible to get any benefit out of it.

Anyone got any tips on how to use it?

ATM I just changed it out with the plasma defence turret you can unlock in C-store.

This is actually a limited vendor 'Perk' that is only available from a Steam purchase...
Now includes a Steam-exclusive Phaser Turret – This Tactical Station Mod allows you to deploy a small space phaser turret.
    http://store.steampowered.com/app/9900/
It may be useful in Fleet Actions, where everyone is too busy shooting at other targets to take it out, but to give a 'Phaser Relay' console, or a 'Zero Point Quantum' tactical console for it would be a tough choice...

Since it is a vendor 'Perk', it's usually intended to be out-grown as your characters advance in ability and rank... About the only vendor 'Perk' that will last the life of a character would be the Amazon 'Borg' BO, and the Best Buy 'Rivera' Tribble...

I've been playing with another vendor 'Perk' from Direct2Drive
LIMITED TIME BONUS ITEM - Radiometric Converter
This starship Engineering Console Mod absorbs theta radiation from incoming attacks and sends the energy directly to your EPS conduits to increase your ships power levels.

For normal PvE it is rarely triggered. In Star Base 24 Fleet action with my Lt. character and his Connie, (with the extra Engineering Console device slot), where you are under almost constant incoming fire, it's in effect less then 1/4 of the time, and it's power boost effect is capped at 100% max power... I'm of the opinion that it's best effect is more of a placebo then anything else... And for a conventional Light Cruiser, it's not worth giving up a EPS Flow Regulator console for...

    Wait what.

Purchased items with game-mechanic effects that don't occur in any other way in the game (weaksauce or not)?

    ****ing... ****. Just... ****. What the ****?

It's not sold in the c-store; just unlocked if you got the game from Steam.

I knew that when I posted. That doesn't alter my fundamental objection or the associated WTF moment.

Now if it was a game unbalancing 'single shot' kill device, I would understand your objections... But 'Placebo' items are not worth the time griping about them...

    My objection is two-pronged.
    • Weaksauce or not, these are still utterly unique game mechanics.
    • Having these sorts of effects available as options in normal gameplay would enrich the experience. Why, since the tech is obviously there to implement them as a throwaway marketing ploy, aren't any new 'stuff to use' even in planning for the main game itself?

Now for those who want the specific descrption of the 'Radiometric Converter'...

For every 5 sec time segment of receiving incoming fire, there is a 10% Chance of triggering a 12 pt boost for all power categories for 12 seconds...

However, this appears to be 5 seconds of 'continuous' incoming fire, and I suspect that it's triggered by Beam fire only, not cannon fire...

Also the 12 point power bonus is capped at 100% power setting, so if you're at max weapon power setting, the bonus will cover only the normal weapon power drain, and nothing more...
