Would anybody support this? I think it would add another aspect to the game and make it a little more challenging avoiding asteroids and other ships...
I just look at it like this; if I am going full impulse into an asteroid, I should be destroyed or at least damaged significantly.
Personally, I hated collision in EVE, especially since it would sometimes happen when you were just trying to fly through a gate and something was buggy. It's not why I left EVE and it wouldn't cause me angst if they implemented it, but it seems unnecessary.
I would also be annoyed if they spent developer time on this rather than something I want, but that's just normal selfishness talking. I would rather they implement cooler content features, like "choose your own adventure" style brancing quests than worrying about collisions.
It'd be one thing if asteroid fields were few and far in between. In practice, however, Cryptic is OBSESSED with asteroids. Seriously. They ring every planet. They surround every anomoly. Every damaged ship is located in dense minefields of them. Heck, I'm shocked there isn't millions of them encasing Earth in a asteroid shell!
There's just too many of them to toss a mechanic into the game for damaging ships that bump up against them. Saddening, as that was my favorite tactic in SFC... tractor-pushing a ship right into one and instagibbing it.
