Can someone please explain what the different stats do on a reflector dish and/or Science console?
Example: What in the hell does Astrometrics do? How does that effect an Escort, Cruiser and Science vessel? How does that fit with an Engineer, Tactical or Science profession?
We need more information on this stuff and it should be in easy to understand language and easily accessible. STOwiki.org is not very informative.

Each type of science ability uses a particular stat. For example, Tractor Beam uses emitters, so getting equipment that improves this stat will improve the effectiveness of the Tractor Beam.
It's not explicitly spelled out anywhere, but I was able to figure this out pretty quickly by looking at science abilities and comparing them to the stats you'll see on deflectors.
A lot of that is a "design philosophy" of Cryptic. They dont like giving out "real numbers". When Jack (head of Cryptic) was lead on City of Heroes, he had a long treatise on why he was against telling the players exactly what did what and stacked with what etc. He said it was to prevent the min/max'ers from getting out of control and putting the other casual players in a hole gameplay wise.
I skipped CO, but I was amazed at the lack of info in the STO skill trees, then I remembered Jack statement from CoH and it became clear why we dont have the info we need. Now a Dev or GM will probably come in and call me out but the lack of info is there for everyone to see.
Adimal made a great database which show what skills from your Captain's skill tree modifies which Bridge Office skills, innate abilities and kits.
What's missing is really only the cooldown category of the skills (you do not want to buy BO skills that all share the same cooldown timer) and whether you can amplify the skill with aux power or not.
**Starship overview**
Each starship has a limit on the level of skill usable, i.e science vessel can't use Tactical space skills (of lt. cmd rank or higher). This overview is kinda unhandy, but you'll find out that buying/paying/training a lt. cmd. tactical skill on a Science vessel is a waste of time and credits.
