This is a good sign, it simply means they are here with STO for the long haul. As another posetr put it....There is no EVE 2 sceduled for release or even in development.....WOW 2...no.....LotR 2?
EverQuest came out with EQ2, and how many years did that take? They could also have just called it an expansion or made it a massive patch as well.
Brilliant news, now we have confirmation the Dev's are dealing with STO 100% and giving it all their time and energy to polish it to perfection without another title splitting their efforts.....thank for the news OP.

If WoW2 was under development (as some think it may be) Blizzard wouldn't tell anyone until it's ready for beta at the earliest - they know it could cost subs.
The minute a sequel is announced (unless there was some radical plan to migrate characters to the new game) people would question their sub to v1. Even GW dangled a carrot with those accolade things.
You forgot about Everquest 2, Guild Wars 2, and Lineage II
Ah yes the patch EQ2.. well they I quess Cryptic could say "Season 2 = Sequel" then.. yes? If Cryptic wants to go that route of calling client updates as sequels, then they could just tack a number on the end of each of their mega patches and we would be up to what.. STO3 now?
Hardly a big deal, worse ever came to it means a graphics overhaul sometime in the future kind of like EvE Trinity..although to be honest I was really just looking for an excuse to ask who that beautiful lady is in Chat's avatar pic, cause I want to worship her

Blizzard are making another MMO, that's no secret. It's not WOW though.
Why is anyone in their right mind even asking them about a sequel? Wouldn't that be tantamout to Cryptic saying "five months out and we already give up"? Whoever even asked them that question should have their press badge incinerated and be forced to review Flash games for a year.
Did Blizzard give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? No, and Cryptic is not giving up now.
"With Star Trek, the beauty is the story is never really finished, so as the IP continues to grow, so can we. Barring a new edition of our engine, I can't really see us doing a sequel." (Source)
Basically, until such time as the Cryptic engine has evolved so much that it is unprofitable to host multiple versions of it, supporting different games, Cryptic will continue developing the current Star Trek Online. If at any time in the future, it will become more profitable to host a more advanced version of their engine, STO will have to go, and probably make room for STO II.
Actually, the question itself is rather silly because any one who knows something about MMO's should have already guessed the answer anyway.
[I can't find a YouTube link where Bluto's speech from Animal House has all the profanity edited out, so I removed the link, but it was in reference to that scene]
And yeah, I quoted it from memory and got it wrong. Sue me
You forgot about Everquest 2, Guild Wars 2, and Lineage II
If I am not mistaken those games have linear storielines. I know Guild Wars does and so does Guild Wars 2, you will see. Totally different then STO by far. those games cant be compared to STO simply because of the linearity. Like the guy said, unless they get an updated game engine there wont be a sequel to STO nor does there need to be one. All they have to do is continue to add content (expansions?) as Blizzard has done with WoW. The OP is deluded into thinking that the game is failing because there are no plans for a sequel, thats folly.
Announcing STO 2 only 3 months after STO's launch would be a sign of the failure of STO. Saying they're not doing another is an indicator that they're happy with the game as it exists.

What?? This cannot be correct! Have you not read the posts? The posts is serious stuff!
How amazing, more regurgitated silliness... So much for creative journalism, eh?
I can't even read that site for all the lousy popups, the close button for the steaks-by-mail ad is under the popup zone for the "annoy the living TRIBBLE out of me video ad". From what I can see between the screeching ads, it's the exact same non-story. It seems like they are recylcing content and using the same tired tactics to try and drive traffic to their mediocre game...er...site.

It had to be done.
I don't mean that in a good way.
I dont recall EVE 2 being developed?!!

No need if you can churn out cheap MMMOs on a 12 monthly basis and milk it for 12 months then they will carry on just the same.

It's only been 5 years. Blizzard need at least 10 to even announce they have plans for it.

Don't forget the king of the hill.... SWG:NGE!
I dunno, he makes me laugh.
LOL! This must be "the other side of the story" Poppy told me about. Nope, no agenda here friends
