Am I strange cause I'm really having fun in STO?

So I read the latest quit-rant this morning and am just wondering what’s up with it. Am I just easily entertained or could it be some folks are just go looking for reasons to hate games they play?

Okay first I do have to admit that I don’t get to spend 80 hours a week playing STO. I’m lucky if I get 5 hours total during the work week. But on the weekend, I can spend 10 hours a day playing. I just made my RA5 on my prelaunch toon three weeks ago.

I have yet to start doing dailies because right now I’m living in the Zenas Expanse and loving it. I have been snatching up my 5th Order Exploration Badges and trying out just about every Mk X weapon/shield/console to see what figure out what works best. I figure I’ve gotten a few thousand in badges so far and still have yet to get bored tweaking my first T5 escort, let alone all the other T5 ships I’ll configure.

I just discovered that people actually will pay for my old Mk VI and VIII stuff, so this week I’ve been messing around in the Exchange and making real credits instead of just dumping everything into the replicator when I’m done with it. Even selling at ‘Value’ I’m making about 5x when the replicator/freighters pay.

I’ve been running my original BO’s since the start and this week was the first time I trained up a new one to take someone’s place (just to add a second attack pattern in space). I tried rerolling my skills but can’t seem to accept the changes, that’s something I’ll work on in the next week or so.

The only thing I’m not trying is crafting. I messed around with it a month or so ago and it was just annoying. So my bank is filled with tons of anomolies that I can’t bring myself to dump, and I still pick up every one I see. Maybe someday I’ll try it again.

On the whole though, this game is keeping me very entertained when I play. My first alt is still just a LT3 cause I have yet to get bored running my RA. I haven’t even rolled my Klingon yet.

Sure I’m a fanboy, have been since I saw the TOS when it first came on when I was a wee little tyke back in the olden days, but still the game itself is keeping me happy. Are there others that are getting the same level of enjoyment here?

Then play. I still ike STO. I feel it has alot of potentioal. Unfortuantly I have never been one to care about loot and at RA5 thats about all there is to do. Grind for loot.

Likeing this game doesn't make you a bad person or even that strange. You just do. For me Content is a very serious concern and to see that Content isn't on the to do list uyntil Season 2 is kinda irksome.

just to say crafting is improving in the coming weeks

yes im enjoying is massively. I have one fed main, two fed alts, one klingon main and one alt. i rotate between them and im having a great time

very much looking forward to the next three months of changes, and hopefully by the end of the year we should have a third faction to play with.

i think the pvp is great fun, although it need to be improved upon. just wish more people where playing the pvp to speed up match selection

i usually get bored of games after a month, and mmos after two. im still here since open beta and not bored. what ever STO is doing, and for all its faults, its doing something right. im still having fun. what more can i ask from a game

A five hour week is where this game maxes out. That's why you are hearing all the complaining. The people complaining are those that do MMO's rather than watch TV. They are likely doing 20+ weeks, or at least wanted a Star Trek game where they could do 20+ weeks. This game does not have that kind of holding power.

So, no. Not strange, but coming in with a different mindset.

Now, with your 20 hours of gaming a month, are you really satisfied with your monthly fee for it? For me, this game feels like Guild Wars, which had no monthly fees. And, of course, GW was a lot more complete and bug free at launch.

he said he was playing 10 hours a day in the weekend so 25 hours a week yeah math is a ***** isnt it.

also to the OP ya not alone, i can play alot more hours as the average person but yeah as long as i am having fun i wont cancel despite just focussing on one character.

I too have fun playing this game. I'm a very casual gamer, playing a few hours a week, with only one character that is Cmdr3 while I started playing 2 weeks after launch, but I keep logging whenever I have the time.
I'm more of a Trek fan than a MMO player, so this may be why I like the setting more than the gameplay, but I enjoy my space (and ground, yes!) battles, and of course reading the mission texts. I even like PvP, as it is the only time where I can decently play in a team.
So I intend to play until I'm at least RA5. Then I'll see what alts I create ;)

And... I too am growing tired of the serial complainers that keep operating here, but apparently it's a common feature in MMORPGs...

I play probably at least 2 hours per day, probably a lot more, and I am still entertained. Yes, there is no "new" content. But sometimes I like just goint into a Sensor Contact "Mission" and kicking TRIBBLE against Borgs, Terran Empire, True Way, Romulans or Klingons. Even more fun if there are people around.

Then there is Tribble. Sure, it's not the "real game", but trying out new stuff is interesting. Then there is sometimes just following Tribble or Fleet chat and discuss in-game things....

And you can play different characters. Tactical plays very different from Science, as I learned the last few weeks. And I like it. I am looking forward to playing an Engineer... And I haven't even scratched the surface of PvP or Klingons.

There is a lot I would like to see improved. Balance. Content. Features. What-you-have. But it's still fun in the meantime.

Tribble has stopped me logging in for a while, when I saw the difficulty slider in action I had to put my game on hold until it goes live.

It actually comes out to about 100 hours a month. 5 during the work week and around 20 on the weekend. And yep I'm thrilled. I paid for the lifetime, so that was what, like 400 including the game. I posted before somewhere a comparison of things I have paid for in recreation. I have a Specialized FSR Downhill race bike that cost me 7500 bucks. I probably have about 200 hours on that bike in the 8 years I have owned it, knocking off the 3000 I have won in prize money at races, it's still cost me a lot more per hour of recreation than STO does.

I myself am also enjoying this game. It does need a lot of work but im very optimistic due to the fact that it has so much potential compared to other games. It has 40+ years of content to draw from right out of the box. I have been playing STO since the beginning of CB and i play everyday. Still not bored. Then again...it does help that i have a good fleet to run with.

lol no your not strange i enjoy this game too. I also see a lot of potential too if the Devs are still gonna put everything that social in the game (ex. ship interiors, mini games, planets to chill on like Risa, and sport competitions) Not to mention i love the RP aspect of this game and cant wait for this feature to be expanded.

In my opinion the ppl that are *****ing have been made into "career" MMO players where they have become numb to the story lines and RP part of the mmoRPG part of the game lol. U know the ppl that just grind to get higher lvls and money to be a "status" in the game rather than just having fun....

But i remember when rumors that EVE was finally gonna let players get out of their own ships and walk around star bases i was sooo excited so i start to play that for a little bit, and then became disappointed. So when i found out that not only you can walk outside one's space ship but actually have missions on the planets... i was in lol so dont think your alone... Join a RP fleet you'll fit in perfect :)

i may rant about the game from time to time .. but i do have fun when i can play. i can't just spam the space bar got hand injuries that prevent that. nostromo was helping me play but it was causing too many conflicts elswhere. tried the 360 controller and wow... not supported.

so as much fun as i have when i can play, till they fix some things like finnaly getting full auto fire in space, and gawd i hope 360 controller support or joystick support i pretty much bought a liftime sub for nothing :(

I have also been really enjoying this game. And fall into the category as the OP with about 25 hours or so of game play time per week.
STO is also the first MMO I've ever played where I actually have been interested enough to follow the mission to mission story lines.
And like the OP I'm also a fan of the Star Trek universe in general so I'll admit that I'm probably willing to overlook some bugs / issues that other players might be a bit more critical of.

Based on the thread I started asking for peoples opinions of Lifetime Subscriptions I can see some key differences in the player base.
The people who don't seem to be enjoying themselves as much as others tend to be very aggressive players who power through content in an effort to either get to end game before most others or are more PvP focused. (That's just my observation of course and not any sort of a fact)

Based on what I've seen in the game thus far and also the content Cryptic has coming down the pipe I plan to invest in a Lifetime Subscription.

Good to see that you're enjoying the game as well.

Whoa, wait, autofire.. I missed that I think. Wow my keyboard might make it till the end of the year now.

Maybe not, my seven year old has started power leveling his character and he hammers the heck out of the keyboard.

No your are not Strange. Most of us started off having fun until we discovered how shallow the game is and even some of the most hardened Cryptic fans have now been put off there games for life.

Old rant is still old. Bla bla bla. We get it.

Yes, on topic, I'm still having fun with the game. Playing real casual thanks to school and work though. Been here since head start and just hit Commander with my TacOff, and jumped right into my T3 escort kitbash. Waiting for the patch to hit before I try the Big Dig. The only non-fun mission I've encountered so far is the CE DSE. Other than that, enjoying all the cool story arcs :)

I have some problems with the game, sure, and am at times inclined to look at Cryptic and wonder (often aloud) "Where's the brains?", and there are moments of frustration during play sessions in which I find it difficult to restrain myself from 'QQing' in PVP Zone chat about 10 vs 4 matches (just shut up let us win and get your points), but overall I'm still having fun with STO.

Also, I got the year-long sub thing, so rage quitting would be somewhat pointless.

I wish I knew where to set it at. I don't spend enough time looking at my forum controls I guess.
