I know i'm being picky but there is some differences between the regular redshirt uniform and security redshirt uniform. First off security have shorter shirts (I believe) and also have belts. This does'nt even need to be a complete change to the uniform but an extraoption to add a belt, like the female miniskirt.
I suspect the shorter shirts were because the costume department didn't want to build custom outfits for extras. They just used what was on the rack and chose to go a little small instead of a little large on the wardrobe.
As for the belts; I think those were worn to give the phasers/communicators a place to hook on. Once we have classic phasers and communicators, I think belts would be a cool addition. I'm all for anything TOS... as long as it looks like canon (showing my age, I think).
There are moments like in the journey to babel (the part where they all are meeting Surak in the shuttlebay) where all security is wearing a belt, so I think that it's a security thing.

Not to big of an addition.
it was the same shirt as everyone else wore just a different color.
It may have looked shorter, due to the Velcro belt they wore to keep the pistol on the hip, but not every redshirt wore the Velcro belt.
here is a shot of David Gerrold (as a redshirt) wearing the belt:

Come on, someone must agree or disagree

the shirt was the same size as all other shirts, the belt was used to "holster" your weapon and hold communicators, since no one had pockets.

but it was not used all the time:

so, when do you carry your phaser on your hip? and need a belt.
I would agree that security redshirts were slightly different than command red-shirts in TOS. I'd love to see that on my security teams.
