They did some good work on the cannons, however I wonder if they saw that super huge dev post about interiors before they made this?

Yah they should probably actualy play the test server.....i mean right off...."we dont know what the penalty is and we dont know exactly what it will bring"

but it looks more like they took a while to create the production video....so they are talking about things that already happened......perhaps they should put a disclaimer in...and say they are refering to the game weeks before the video is put out.....

I can understand if this was being made a month ago or longer.....but if this is a current production.....boy or boy these guys are totaly out of the loop

I have to be very careful what i say in a stoked thread given that someone with a vested interest has a great affinity with the report button where my comments are concerned.

I was astounded to see that I agreed with Chris about the death penalty. You simply can not change the fundamental game mechanics 3 months after launch and expect the majority of your players be ok with that.
Cryptic made a rod for their own backs regarding difficulty and they are stuck with it.

The other guy, mr sensitive ( if you report me for that I swear I'm flying to the states to buy you a beer and chill you out ) had a great math segment and given my main ( if you can call him that, I'm still bored as hell trying to level him ) us a tac escort commander and it makes me feel better that my choices of DHC not only working for me but possibly agreed with by others.

The other main parts of the video were PVP and ship interiors.
My comments on that remain "meh", and "meh".

It's getting better without the guy who last week I called by a nickname these guys themselves used in their video yet was battered by a mod for it. So I'm not giving him a name of any description from now.

( if you report me for that I swear I'm flying to the states to buy you a beer and chill you out )

I'm not entirely sure if you're referring to me, but if it means Free Beer, then here comes the report! ;)

For the record Zoot, I actually agree with probably 90% or more of what you say on the forums. But yes - I take issue with your tendency to wrap those statements in inflammatory and defamatory statements. And I'm not just talking about the ones that've been directed at me in the past. But let's not dwell on it, k?

I'm glad you found the math useful. Someone already pointed out one faux pas I made in that segment though -- "standard" 180-degree Cannons can be equipped on any ship, not just escorts. I suppose that'd be useful for a captain that wanted to invest in cannon-related skills and abilities, but is not flying an escort.

Great Show Fellas! Also Quark was trying to rip off Ensign Kim and Tom Paris saved him.

So, apparently to get a STO'ked mention, being a Seattle native helps. :p Thanks though - spent a bit of time on those pictures.

I enjoyed the discussion on cannon math - my next alt is planned around escort ships, so it helps to know that the difference between duals and heavies is nominal.

Now we need a math segment on Beams :)

My main problem with the standard Canons is I hardly ever see them drop. It might be interesting to try and outfit a cruier or Science ship wiht a bunch of canons though. Beams are prolly still better though.

    Another math segment perhaps.

I haven't played in 3 weeks. Might log in tonight. There isn't much reason TO play, there is nothing to do.

As for the STOked podcast, I used to watch it. I don't anymore since I lost all respect for them when they refused to decline to be part of the advisory council fiasco. Even if not that, it's not particularly useful anymore.

The irony is that the game's release pretty much makes their podcast obsolete anyway, I don't need to watch them to find out what is in the game, I can log in MYSELF and see it. Gameplay guides are also not really helpful, anyone can get to RA5 in a matter of days to a couple weeks with little effort.

My opinion: Only an Escort fully takes advantage of Cannons, and they really should be running one of the Dual types. They out-perform the standard Cannon by a substantial margin, giving you a lot of bang for your buck. The downside is that they force you to face your enemies, and use your fore shield as your almost sole line of defense, rather than being able to utilize your maneuverability defensively. Personally, I think the power that Duals and DHCs offer is worth this sacrifice.

The niche that I see a standard Cannons filling, is when an otherwise Escort-specced Captain wants to try out a Cruiser or Science ship. They can load them up with cannons and turrets, and still make use of their cannon-specific skills & boff abilities.

For captains that focus primarily on Cruisers and Science Vessels, I'd highly recommend putting your skill points into beams. They have a higher DPS than standard Cannons, and the overlapping arcs allow you to really put the hurt on someone if you can manage to broadside them. Just a couple things to keep in mind, though: 1) the "broadside" arc is almost as small as a dual cannon arc, so it's not easy to pinpoint, and 2) beams end up drawing slightly more power faster than cannons, so be sure to invest in some EPS flow regulators, batteries, or anything else that'll keep your weapon energy high & hot.

Well, I won't sugar-coat it... Bryan is in the same position that many STO players are currently in. To be perfectly frank, he is not enjoying the game as much as he hoped he would. He still plays occasionally, but he doesn't feel that ... 1) Making the show is worth the time investment for him, and 2) That he'd be able to add much, since he doesn't stay up-to-date on new features, etc.

If new features and content are released that grab his interest, it's likely he will re-join the cast at that time. But that can't be guaranteed, as everyone's opinion of a game differs. Even between Chris and I, we like STO for very different reasons.
