Back From Shore Leave. so whats happening

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
So I said I would check back every 3 to 6 months, but I lied. my captain in side made me come back, that and the fact that the past three week I was only logging in to EVE to change skills, and to be honest I missed it.
( a good thing for a game. if you miss it then it means you liked it.) so I hope two months of a break and the fact that college ends in three weeks helps me get back in. but I have a few questions. most about what I missed on my extended shore leave.

1. death, does it mean anything now. is the risk vs reward better?

2. exploring, is it the same has it gotten better, has it gotten worse?

3. any new missions? ( I know about the raids, but anything else )

4. and anything else cool I I don't know about?

lastly who is here, anyone I would remember?

anyway it should be fun, going to have to check out the game later because I'm to be studying for this week's test, but I can't wait. I need to shake the dust off my ship, drill my crew, and take her on a flight past Pluto.

Go read the Engineering Reports. That will get you up to speed as far as what's new and what's coming.

    1) Not yet but soon, thankfully chaged to be optional if you use the soon to be implimented Dificulty Slider (which might I add is nifty) on a setting over "normal". It will mean injuries to players on the ground and handicaps to ships in space, fixed with repair kits.

    2) Pretty much as you left it, some people noticed you can somewhat sneak past enemy groups on the ground now a bit easier, but thats about it.

    3)Aside from the STF's, no.

4)A lot of little fixes for a lot of little problems, in my book that was cool.

    5) I don't really know anyone to tell you, I only recently got back into the forums and I'd wager I am one of the only people that has been a member this long that is still around.

    Welcome back.
    1) The Death Penalty and Difficulty Slider are fun if you are into that type of gaming. I like to play on Elite sometimes for the challenge.
I don't think they have the right balance between reward vs risk yet.
    2) They added Klingon Exploration. I like it. Its upto the standard of Starfleet exploration missions. Its not copy and paste either. However, if you didn't like Starfleet exploration mission i don't see you appreciating the Klingon version either.
    3) No. Some new fleet actions.
    4) Hmm. First Contact/Diplomacy later in the summer.
    :)

    Welcome back Zodi.

Some have left (I left, came back, leaving again May 12th)

Some have stayed (everyone with a blue name...except GM...he had to take a permi-forum vacation)

1.1 should be out soon...some interesting changes...season 2 in July should be the miracle patch.

    1. The Death Penalty is up on Tribble and will be coming to Holodeck tomorrow probably. It is honestly, the best Death Penalty I've ever seen in an MMO, and I've played a lot of MMO's with death penalties.

    2. Improvements to the Commodity missions are up on tribble and should be bumped to holodeck tomorrow.

    3. Not yet, you will be seeing this in Season 2, check below.

4.They've mentioned some pretty cool things that will be in Season 2 like their plan for ship interiors, I'll try to get you some links in a minute

    5. Population hasn't really dropped that much, it's still relatively easy to find PvP matches and zones look as busy as ever

Here is the information about the ship interior system dstahl posted:
    dstahl wrote: »
Here's an update on where we are at with Player Ship Interiors.
(all subject to change as we're still in the process of building this system)

We've posted a poll to gather feedback on priorities for the interior system (if you haven't taken the poll or commented, please check the polls section).

What we're agreed on so far
Feds and Klingon players will both get ship interiors
Fed players will get the Fed Ship interior kit (similar to what was seen on Khitomer in tutorial)
Klg players will get the Klingon Ship interior kit (similar to what was seen on B'Vat's ship)

The default interior will have multiple floors (similar to Khitomer in Tutorial)
The interiors will be instanced and use turbo-lifts (depending on your video processor speed - turbo-lifts are either instant moves or a few seconds - so some players may see a brief loading screen - but you are transfering within the same map which is faster than going from map to map)
Crew members will populate the interior and appear to be performing duties
BOFFs will remain on the bridge - but candidates might be seen elsewhere

There will be 3 floors represented for your ship to start

    Floor 1
    Bridge and Ready Room

    Floor 2
    Medical Sickbay
    Lounge (like 10-Forward)
    Captain's Quarters
    Reception Room (for diplomatic purposes)

    Floor 3
    Engineering / Engine Room
    Engineer's Office/Science Lab
    Transporter room

Things still up in the air - options we are discussing to improve ship interiors for launch of Season 2 - all TBD
    • Creating more floorplans that you could choose from (Small vs Large)
    • Creating specific versions of rooms to match IP ship designs (Galaxy Engine Room)
    • Adding a customizable uniform for your crew (it may just be based on a default)
    • Adding the ability to remove personal injuries in sickbay and ship injuries in engineering
    • Adding mini-games to remove injuries
    • Adding social mini-game such as poker
    • Adding ability to place trophies/items on your interior
    • Adding ability to have enemy boarding actions take place on your interior
    • Adding ability to have PvP duals on each other's interiors
    • Adding missions that use your interior as a part of the episode
    • Having diplomatic First Contact missions take place in your reception room
    • Adding ability to find new BOFF candidates working your interior that you can promote
    • Building specific interior kits to match eras (TOS interior vs. TNG interior)
    • Ability to purchase some items from your lounge
    • Ability to craft some items in engineering or sickbay
    • Adding some sort of "team bonus" for spending time on other players ships
    • Attempting to shrink the kit hallways and interiors as much as possible and still maintain camera/combat
    • Create a new curved hallway section to represent fed saucer ships
    • Allowing players to customize kit lighting/textures

Thats a lot of features and we don't have the resources to get all of those in for the launch of Season 2 which is another reason we're using the polls and your feedback to get the interiors started on the right track so we can add to them as we go. We want to focus on a few of the items above to start.

We were also concerned that removing injuries from normal difficulty (no matter how slight there were) removes some of the coolness of having ship interior functionality for players that play on normal - since they will simply never get injured. I'm curious if players who don't want injuries on normal would change their mind if they knew they would be missing that.

I never finished the video. There appeared to be no point once I'd gone.

oh I did find out that in March last year the Atari shareholders voted whether to dissolve the company. They voted to keep it going but that if the equity / debt ratio is not reduced ( currently the company, after debts and creditors paid, is worth less than half of the 'debt' owed to the shareholders, meaning they would recover under 40% of investment back ) by 31st March 2012 then the company will be dissolved and whatever value left in it returned to the shareholders.

So, they have a final death row hearing date that is set in stone. :)

I thought about it but the moment is long gone. It would not be as funny as it could have been at the time.

I might finish it for your private delectation if I get some free time this weekend.

See my edit above for interesting news :)
