Still allow everyone to warp in and out at the starbase, I dont want to spoil everyone elses fun or ease of coming and going, but expand the sol system to include the outer planets.
Enable us to Fly to mars, or Jupiter, run through the rings of Saturn or race through the asteroid belt. And maybe well settle that Pluto question once and for all.
Perhaps a few instanced missions on or near the other planets. stop an incursion from the Terran Empire etc.
set up sensor probes on the outskirts of the system to look for incoming Borg.
While I'm not sure their plans will include any mining, base-building, or missions, Cryptic are planning on adding our entire solar system into STO. If I remember correctly, it had be originally scheduled to be out by now (or during Season 1, at least), but they're holding off on it until they have something to do in them. I think it was dstahl that said the maps and such are made, but they're still working on adding functions to them.
I'm hoping for the iconic sites like the Moon, Mars' Utopia Planitia, and Jupiter Station. I like your ideas about having missions (I'm always for any excuse to fight more Terran Empire), except the mining (I played Eve for the last 3 years (well, last 6 months have been really just skill changing, mainly), and I don't really want to mine in STO. Although, to each their own, and I'm not excluding the chance for people to mine; I just won't be doing it lol), and I'm looking forward to seeing what they've come up with for the maps of our solar system.
I really hope they add this, but I hope they add it right too...:)
The distance of planets beyond the asteroid belt start getting really high. For example, the distance between the Sun and Mars is about 600x the distance between the Earth and the moon. The distance between the Sun and Jupiter is almost 4x the distance between the Sun and Mars. Finally, the distance between the Sun and Neptune is about 6x the distance between the Sun and Jupiter. in short: the solar system is BIG. Even traveling at full impulse, it'll take quite a while to traverse our solar system, if it's made to scale (I feel like it would be pointless adding the other planets if they aren't even going to make it to scale.) If only they got rid of the stupid sector space, and made space one contiguous area, then we could warp to other planets in our solar system at our own convenience.:(
Something tells me because of the huge scale, Cryptic might take the cheap approach and either:
1. make our solar system not to scale, which destroys a lot of both the cool factor and the sci-fi aspect of it
2. separate our solar system into different planets, all of which have to be accessed separately from sector space
.. what i'm not sure about is why we can't fly into sol from alpha? . the blue ring is there, but it's like they took it out, it would be nice to enter it from both sides (just more realistic anyways) and have the option to leave out either side too.
They said months ago that they were going to add some of the other planets in our solar system, like Mars. Which I could find the exact quote, but if you dig you mgiht find it.
I doubt it will be to scale.
I doubt the SOL system will be in one space area, those areas as so small they barely contain a single planet, and earth and the huge space installations already make the space feel cramped.
I would agree that the most likely implementation based of my observations of the size of the space zones in game is the solar system could be represented in a micro sector space arrangement, with the planets replacing solar systems in the typical sectors. Then you would enter each planets area if you had missions or wanted to explore mars.
Thing is I would love to see a space suit, can't breath on mars afterall.

It's been said, but I'll confirm. Cryptic said they were working on it early on, but it think based on feedback they switched gears to work on the STFs. It's on a back burner, though, I'm sure
Lets have the environmental design and modeling departments spend time on this, rather than content to keep the late game subscribers from canceling their subscriptions due to boredom.
It seems a bit strange to me to be unable to beam down to Starfleet Command in San Francisco.
Also, the Tellerite homeworld seems to be missing.
There's the ability to beam down to Vulcan- but nothing to do there.
There is stuff to do on Andoria (thank you).
What use does DS9 actually have at the moment? (I could be wrong about this since I'm only a commander)
Tellar is the part of the Alpha Quadrant near Earth thats not in game yet.
And yes, I'm surprised Starfleet Command wasn't implemented to a degree. Before Alpha, I was hoping to beam down and do everything there. In fact there is so many possibilities.
1) Starfleet Academy: Training Captain and Bridge Officers.
2) Starfleet Medical: Where Doctors to go train, do crafting, research, and gain medical missions.
3) Starfleet Headquarters: Diplomacy Missions
McKinley Station - Ship Refits
Mars -Utopia Planetia: Advanced Ship Crafting
Jupiter Station - Advanced Engineering Crafting, Research, and Missions

I also played EVE online and i know the boredom of watching mining lasers for 3 hours lol, though mabey you could buy a player owned station that has bots that mine for you and gives you X amount of Ecredits every x hours etc, i would love that. you would also have to mabey buy npc ships that gaurd the said base from npc/pvp enemies etc. There is so much possibility with this game but cryptic in its infinite wisdom keeps spitting out STF missions, like realy wtf, we want good content that we control.

So many possibilites with Sol.
And it would be far more logical to get promoted ahd HQ instead on Starbase 1......

They will probably split Sol into two seperate systems, probably neither of which will be to scale, Inner Sol & Outer Sol.

same function as earth space dock, but closer to where the higher level missions are so you don't have to travel so much
