Who's Exited for Ship Interiors!!!

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I know I am!!! Been waiting for them since before this game was released! I realy hope that they put in a valiant effort into great interiors (that have some functionality) which justifies them being included after launch.

I cant wait to have missions onboard my own ship, and perhaps (I hope cryptic is looking at this) perhaps give the BO's some sort of personallity, or just some way of interacting with them aboard your ship.

I find myself sometimes wandering my bridge imagining all the cool things that COULD be.....

Alas, Cryptic, my thoughts are ship interiors will do one of two things...propel STO into greatness and ever lasting success and profits.....or be a hobled together peice of C*&P not worth utilizing, dealing STO a final death blow.....

I belive that Cryptic can deliver the fomer rather than the latter.....

Good Luck Cryptic.....Now tease us with some Ship Interior Videos!!:D

I'm very excited. And to answer your question about talking to people they plan on having a system where you can walk around your ship and find new exceptional crewmen to become bridge officers. Not quite the relationship system that a lot of people were hoping for but at least you get to talk to people. And hey, it's an MMO, you could just find some friends and get something going with them.

I am excited, I just hope the get the scaling right, if not I will be disappointed. I would rather not have Ship Interiors than have the vastly oversized interiors we have now.

They also said they were trying to find a way to shrink the interior kits, but be honest even if they were over sized you'd be a bit excited.

In case you missed it, here is the plan for ship interiors:

Here's an update on where we are at with Player Ship Interiors.
(all subject to change as we're still in the process of building this system)

We've posted a poll to gather feedback on priorities for the interior system (if you haven't taken the poll or commented, please check the polls section).

What we're agreed on so far
Feds and Klingon players will both get ship interiors
Fed players will get the Fed Ship interior kit (similar to what was seen on Khitomer in tutorial)
Klg players will get the Klingon Ship interior kit (similar to what was seen on B'Vat's ship)

The default interior will have multiple floors (similar to Khitomer in Tutorial)
The interiors will be instanced and use turbo-lifts (depending on your video processor speed - turbo-lifts are either instant moves or a few seconds - so some players may see a brief loading screen - but you are transfering within the same map which is faster than going from map to map)
Crew members will populate the interior and appear to be performing duties
BOFFs will remain on the bridge - but candidates might be seen elsewhere

There will be 3 floors represented for your ship to start

    Floor 1
    Bridge and Ready Room

    Floor 2
    Medical Sickbay
    Lounge (like 10-Forward)
    Captain's Quarters
    Reception Room (for diplomatic purposes)

    Floor 3
    Engineering / Engine Room
    Engineer's Office/Science Lab
    Transporter room

Things still up in the air - options we are discussing to improve ship interiors for launch of Season 2 - all TBD
    • Creating more floorplans that you could choose from (Small vs Large)
    • Creating specific versions of rooms to match IP ship designs (Galaxy Engine Room)
    • Adding a customizable uniform for your crew (it may just be based on a default)
    • Adding the ability to remove personal injuries in sickbay and ship injuries in engineering
    • Adding mini-games to remove injuries
    • Adding social mini-game such as poker
    • Adding ability to place trophies/items on your interior
    • Adding ability to have enemy boarding actions take place on your interior
    • Adding ability to have PvP duals on each other's interiors
    • Adding missions that use your interior as a part of the episode
    • Having diplomatic First Contact missions take place in your reception room
    • Adding ability to find new BOFF candidates working your interior that you can promote
    • Building specific interior kits to match eras (TOS interior vs. TNG interior)
    • Ability to purchase some items from your lounge
    • Ability to craft some items in engineering or sickbay
    • Adding some sort of "team bonus" for spending time on other players ships
    • Attempting to shrink the kit hallways and interiors as much as possible and still maintain camera/combat
    • Create a new curved hallway section to represent fed saucer ships
    • Allowing players to customize kit lighting/textures

Thats a lot of features and we don't have the resources to get all of those in for the launch of Season 2 which is another reason we're using the polls and your feedback to get the interiors started on the right track so we can add to them as we go. We want to focus on a few of the items above to start.

We were also concerned that removing injuries from normal difficulty (no matter how slight there were) removes some of the coolness of having ship interior functionality for players that play on normal - since they will simply never get injured. I'm curious if players who don't want injuries on normal would change their mind if they knew they would be missing that.

But you are a Scot. It's to be expected. Only my mother is a Scot and my father a Dane. That make you 47% more angry than me (citation needed)

(no doubt I'll get a point for racism now given that I got one for calling an Irishman Paddy ;))

It's on the list of things that may be in at launch. There's no guarantee, but since they are using polling to see which things make it in at launch, I'd say there's a good chance it will happen if it makes it on one of the polls since the scaling has caused major negative backlash.

And for players who want to make huge (tall and wide) characters. I don't think most people understand how constricting it would be to have 5 characters fighting foes in a 6 foot wide hallway or on a bridge that is only 20 feet across.

Okay how many times does this excuse have to be Debunked?

How many Undine are going to board my ship?
When did the Undine lose the ability to reduce their size like they had in Voyager?

Don't forget that they plan to increase the team size eventually, so they will need to fit groups larger than 5 eventually.

But surely that's the way it should be? Make a huge character and he should be space restricted no?

None of this would be an issue if the engine could stop drawing walls and allow the camera to move out if the clipping zone as most other games do.

Games like Neverwinter Nights allow you to turn off the wall drawing so that clipping is not a problem

Actually that's an interesting idea, what if a race that was the approximate dimensions of an elephant joined? What would happen if he wanted to be a part of Starfleet?

Yeah, which means even more people crammed together. One thing I find really annoying and immersion breaking is when other players or BOs walk in front of my shots or stand in front of me as I shoot through them.

when the undine actually stood up on voyager its head was a few cm away from the cieling.. other than that it spent most of its time sitting down or wandering around the hull.

Yep I am listening to Craig talk about it in one of the Stoked cast now Thanks for the PM link storm :) Yeah seems like the backlash was bigger than I knew about... It's so cool that the Devs actually listen to us.

This is often covered in the novels so-as the race has custom designed interiors. Special seats, doorways, whatever. Not so much in the episodes as you're not going to encounter a 9' tall and 4' wide actor to play the part. :)

Well at least that doesn't happen in space, or it didn't the last time I checked, when you try to shoot at something on the far side of a player their shields flare and the attack stops. Not sure if it affects damage though.

Oh I don't want to get banned but my previously vocal comments about Cryptic means that I can't even post in my pants without being punished for it these days.

I have no doubt I've been driven out but I won't change my ways because some wet behind the ears Californian kid half my age starts treating me like a five-year old because he simply can not comprehend that cultural differences mean that his opinion of my comment does not matter when it's a simple part of our language and way of discourse.. I'll remain me until I am banned. Then the letters go off to Atari head office but that's another matter and not for public discussion.

I would hate for anybody to get another infraction here but remember that discussing disciplinary action on the forums is also prohibited.

Not trying to be a jerk and stop people from talking, just pointing out that this conversation might be off limits.

Starfleet is now designing their interiors to better accomodate the enemy? I reject that reasoning. If the AI can't handle smaller hallways, I recommend correcting the game engine's AI instead of compensating with flawed architecture.

As for the doors themselves, they don't even open. There's no need to have them be two stories tall when they only flash.
