Dont know if you have done this mission but anyway.
The misson way to go to Memory Alpha and deliver some sample from egg (guys name) then I have to deliver some of my own samples ( dont laugh) I was told that these sample can be used to im prrove your ships system weapons etc. But I have not been contacted about it.
I'm guessing you didn't read any of the info she had for you when you delivered your sample?
You get the samples by scanning anamolies you encounter in the various missions. When you get enough of them you can return to Memory Alpha and use the samples to upgrade common items into more useful Green-level items. The more you develop from the samples the more skilled you become and the higher the level of items you can make as you advance.
If you collect enough data samples by scanning anomalies, you can travel all the way back to Memory Alpha to make minor upgrades to certain items of equipment! The only way you'll have to get better equipment is to play the game normally, so be sure to grab all the data samples you can find!
I think once you've "crafted" about 7800 EC's worth of upgraded weapons or such it unlucks the next level contact at which you do the same thing. You collect enough of the samples and wepons to upgrade as the contact shows you to, and then you upgrade a secific amount and get the next contact and so on.
I wasted hours of my life trying to get up the the second tier only to find that the selection of items was poor, and that I had to buy common items off the exchange to make them anyway.
The Dev's has stated that part of the 'Memory Alpha' update will include a 'Ferengi' vendor selling base items at 'Ferengi' prices... This should help a great deal to make 'crafting' a viable option for a chracter...

Currently, YOU ARE NOT NOTIFIED when you ADVANCE in 'crafting', but the upcoming Memory Alpha update is suppose to correct this...

Haven't been there in weeks.
