"Beam to ship, Captain?" "Affirmative"

Hello all, very new player here. I wasn't quite sure if this was the right place for this suggestion. I decided to place it here anyway. So far I'm digging this game, but, for the moment, had one suggestion for the devs. When asked if you want to beam up, as you know, you get the prompt to select O.K. or Not Now (or something like that). I thought it would be so much more "immersive" to have the tab say "Affirmative" rather than "O.K." and maybe "Negative" instead of the decline opt. It would be very military. =D

Am I alone on this? lol

I'm not sure I remember hearing Affirmative and Negative used a lot in the the various ST episodes but I wouldn't mind the change from OK. Of course I'd also like to see them use Fore and Aft rather then Forward and Rear and Port and Starboard rather then Left and Right. :)

    @ OP

I'm not sure about "Affirmative/Negative" either. The conversations I can remember off the top of my head usually included the word: "Engage" or "Energize" though...

    @ Cosmic_One

    /agree
This would be a tremendous UI option--should only be an option since some people would be put off by it.

Thanks for responding, guys. I'm with you. I thought, at first, that I was really gonna have to brush up on my Navy terms then realized they don't refer to your ships sides this way at all. lol I think it would be a cool learning experience for players who don't know starboard from port. New vocabulary was one thing I loved about table top rpg's from years past, for example. My vocab was three times as big as my average peer. =D Learning is a good thing.

Oh yes, in TOS Kirk, et al. used "affirmative" and "negative" regularly. They may have gotten away from that with the other series, but it was certainly commonplace in the beginning. It really was great for making for convincing dialogue. As ship captains of The United Federation of Planets aren't we technically Navy?

Honestly, I always figured the button should say something like:

    "<Shipname>, <size of party> to beam up."

    So..

    "Aquila, four to beam up."

    Amirite?

    Welcome to the game!

There are a lot of little tweaks like this I hope they'll implement someday.

Top of my list is being able to personalize the "Yes"/"No" buttons. Let us put in the text of our own choice. Store a text string we input, up to a certain small limit, and use that. We'd be the only ones who see it, so it wouldn't affect any other player.

So instead of "Yes", you could see "Engage", or "Make it so", or "Rock it, man!" (Apply normal profanity filtering, so Momma doesn't see Junior clicking on a button labeled "***** it, *****!" [censoring mine].)

And I'd love to see my character saying "[ship], [X] to beam up!" as se taps ser combadge.

How about instead of Ok and Not Now

    Energize or Belay That.

Belay suggests that you gave a previous order, which was erroneous, and you want to cancel it. Perhaps a more appropriate term might be "disregard".

But I would also like to see more Naval terms. Of course, although being based on "tall ships in space", I don't remember Star Trek using Naval terms all that much. Still, it would be awesome.

Roddenberry referred to Star Trek when he was trying to pitch it as "Wagon Train in space."

So, maybe the buttons should say "Giddyup" and "Whoa, Nelly!" :D

Thank you very kindly, Tripp. :) So far I'm enjoying the game very much and am hoping to see this thing really flesh out over time.
