As far as I can tell there is going to be a mass exodus from escourts into Cruisers. Escourts simply cannot stay alive long enough to win on elite and every death (which will happen often with the paper shields and hull) equalls a cost in terms of credits..........
Why fly an escourt in PVE if it is always going to cost more than flying a cruiser which has a chance to stay alive long enough to win without dieing?
I'm not suggesting any nerfs or improvements to escourts - Just really asking if this has been thought through from an escourt's point of view?
I've been flying my Hermes Escort on elite in Tribble for several days now. He's not dying any more then my Sovereign Cruiser or my Nimbus Science Vessel is at that setting.

I'll be retiring my escort for a while, but not because I'm afraid of dying.
My escort captain only has a couple episodes left to do. Once those are done, she'll be hanging out in the Captain's Table until Season 2 comes along. And once Season 2 comes along, I'll be playing escorts again. But I don't plan to increase my difficulty level for any of my captains.
Since not everybody will be playing on Elite, there will still be plenty of escorts around, and there will be players who will find ways to stay alive and have fun playing escorts on Elite.
I did a bit of testing with my escort on Tribble. Elite difficulty was definetly harder but I only died once (and that was due to a stupid mistake). Elite difficulty definetly requires a bit more caution out of escorts than regular dififculty but you shouldn't be dying as much as you make out.
On the current dififculty Escorts are easy mode, with the advanced dififculty settings they start to require some skill.
You know, I hate to be one of those "nags" but dude, you could at least double check your spelling of a word that's plastered so frequently, you'd have to almost try to misspell it.
It's hard to take you seriously when you care so little about how you come across. Just my opinion!

Considering this is wd_harding's third thread on the topic of the mass exodus of "escourts" because of the death penalty, with no subsequent response from him in any of the threads, I seriously doubt he's bothering to read any of the replies.
From my experience elite is just too hard for escorts. Actually too hard period. Anyone who says we're dieing a lot on elite because we are speced right obviously haven't tried it. I'm a decent player and I died ten times on one mission and didn't finish. I think they have made it ridiculously hard. Reminds me of a bad dungeon master that used to throw in more and harder creatures to fight because we figured ways through easier than they expected. All they have done is added more shield, hull, and firepower to the enemies and kept our ships the same. Don't know what it's like for cruisers or science ships yet. Also in my opinion repair is also ridiculously high.

I played a couple of missions in my escort on elite difficulty with no problems. I did die once on advanced difficulty because I underestimated just how nasty customers battleships are on the new difficulties but once I got the hang of it I took out several on both Advanced and Elite with no problems.
Honestly I don't think it is a matter of spec it's a matter of play style. Escorts are built for hit and run and the new difficulties require you to think that way. Sometimes you need to stop fighting and pull back a bit to catch your breath. This gives you time to shift power to the front shields, patch up your hull and for your BO abilities to come off of cooldown.
I don't know, I don't do PvP so I've only had my escort destroyed once (by the Doomsday Device's death explosion, so I didn't feel bad at all). If your ship is being destroyed a lot in PvE play, you're doing something wrong and you need to adapt. Even if it is a wee little escort.

If you're dying in an Escort all the time, you are built wrong and playing wrong.
