How many of you have taken breaks away from your MMO of choice?
I quit WoW several times over the 5 years I played it same with EvE, AoC and even STO (It its brief existence). Some games I left for a brief period only to return soon after while some I have never revisited.
How do you know when its time to take a break, or never come back?
This you can only answer yourself but for me the answer is simple in that you never know whether you will come back again or not. With WoW every time I quit I swore it was the last time and it wasn't until I got rid of my account that the decision became permanent...but even after I still have had moments of wanting to return. You should never get rid of your 'stuffz' just on the principle that you never know if you will return or not.
So what makes you quit and what makes you return?
Hundreds of reasons can cause you to take a break and even more can cause you to return. Often when someone quits they do so with a myriad of reasons in mind...but typically ONE thing if changed would bring them right back in. Most people want to stay but for their myriad of reasons they rationalize leaving...but constant change and improvement can only work to improve your return rate.
So if you left today what would bring you back?
Some open PvP or some new meaningful system that adds to the RA experience. Right now I find it easier and easier to just not log in... daily's and the occasion STF run are the only things available but even they are pointless if you are already geared. Competition fuels me, pursuit of excellence inspires me and the tears of my victims sustain me.
So if you left today where would you go?
CIV 5 is coming in the fall which is always a great time sink...DDO is promising in the fact that your $ commitment to it is 0 giving you ample time to decide whether the game is for you without an investment. But likely I wouldn't stray to far. Season 2 is due in the summer which will likely pull me in for another sub or two.
So if you left today how would anyone know?
Considering "I quit" threads are illegal I would imagine the only way to tell if someone has left is with the curious absence of their presence on forums...and a possible long winded post about cake.
So what is the point of this thread?
Hypothetical scenarios make me smile as do one-way conversations and imaginary cake.
I quit when I'm bored and unstimulated. Even WOW gets too much to be srging for hours a day every day and I need breaks. I'm on my longest break of about 12 months now ( since beta )
I start again when the buzz tells me that there is new stuff and my old mates start pestering me more than usual to come back.
This is in the case of WOW. With all other MMOs I have played once I've quit it I've never been back.
I gave STO another go after not subscribing a month because I always said I would give it a fair go when new content was released. Unfortunately for me nothing has changed in game. In fact the lack of players just makes what was the fun parts ( fleet missions ) as tiresome and tedious as the rest of the game now.
It will take more than the recommendation of a forum populated by nothing but blue names to return in 6 months or so whenever more 'content' is arriving.
I will always go back to WOW. The combination of a great bunch of worldwide friends, many of which I have met and are now real-life friends combined with an interesting, varied and busy world will keep me a WOW player whatever comes around in the future.

This time...it is for realz!
But the cake will expire with time as do all good things.
By May 12th I expect its once warm and delicious center to be hard and undesirable
Then the cake will be no more.
