Since Saturday evening Pacific Time, it has been almost impossible to play due to frequent lag spikes, Server Not Responding (in zone and while changing zones) and disconnections from the server.
I have checked everything possible on my end (rebooted PC, rebooted router), and I just played a different MMO for about 4 hours with zero problems. Similarly the only web site I have problems reaching is startrekonline.
According to PingPlotter (a graphical version of tracert), I am getting 10-25 packet loss at cryptic-1.border12.bsn.pnap.net. This seems to be the gateway between cryptic and the rest of the network (it is the next to last entry before patchserver.crypticstudios.com).
Before last night, I had very stable connections to the game.

It is common for routers (hops) on the internet to not respond to pings (ICMP or TCP based). It's not their priority to reply to direct pings.
However if you find that each time your final hop (server in this case) reports packet loss the router also does, and responds to the ping like your final hop the other samples, then that may be an issue.
I am getting very high packet loss during peak hours of game play
However anything after 8 or 10pm est seems to be stable into the night.
Nothing like using /netgraph 1 to watch big spikes... Then watching my ship rubber banding all over the place
Only thing I can think of is two things
1. Cryptic servers are over taxed during peak hours, and depending on the network route some are affected
2. My ISP is taxed at peak hours, and some where in the route to cryptic I get packet loss
So after playing for a bit and getting to the point where I cant take this **** anymore, I turn to another game to play, and ponder the thought of how much longer will I be playing STO, because I am NOT going to pay some one for this ****.

First I would like to ask that you not post in dead threads (threads older than 2-3 weeks). If you have an issue please feel free to make a new one its ok. Currently we do not have any issues with our bandwidth or server load during peak hours if we did believe me we would notify the public.
As for your issue it is a possibility that your ISP is shaping or filtering your traffic. The proxy option may work for you in this case. Have you tried the proxy yet?

Sorry googleing Star trek online packet loss this thread comes up first, and I didn't see that the last post was a few months ago
You better get on your mod dutties and lock threads
Futher investigation did lead to the ISP
But not the filtering that is the common problem people like to point the finger to
Packet loss was due on my ISP side.
Constant ping to 4.2.2.2 showed packet loss under light loads. Around 8:16pm est it cleared up. As I said I had no issues during night time play. This is due to my POS ISP (Charter Communications) dropping packets.
I like to make a note that even though I am wireless had nothing to do with the issue, another common finger pointing tactic people like to play. Even though ping times where low, and I have more than 5meg download, dosn't mean TRIBBLE when it comes to drop packets, as why I did the search on google.
I hope my research into the matter helps other people troubble shoot thier own packet loss or lag issues within the game. The reason why I thought of the ISP because I had NO issues before with CoH and CoV that was designed/hosted by Crypric. I found issues with BF BC2 before the drop packet issue disapeared.

Sometimes it just stops on one of the port tests, which I suppose is consistent with the heavy packet loss I am seeing with PingPlotter.

Now I shal drink IPAs and play a very fine game.
