Hallo, im new to the game and I found a few things that is really really REALLY making me annoyed.
That is why I come here and ask if anyone know of a way to get around this or if something is in developement.
1.st: The map. It just says "Vulcan Sector". Where is that?
IMO it should have said:
Vulcan Sector < Sirius Sector Block < Beta Quadrant
Or something like that. It is the age of science and information. Should not have to be a detective to find out where you are.
And you should be able to open the map from other systems too. Im in Norway, and I can go on the internet and see the map over Tokyo. Detailed city map or over the country. Why not Star Trek?
The map system is so player hostile that it scares me. And I'm a new player. The last thing you want is to scare off people within the 1st hour they play.
And every mission you have should be marked on the map. Again, this is the age of information. Why should there not be able to "mark" the map where you should go?
Already now I am so frusterated about the missions. "where is that....... can't find the place.... where the **** are the place..... AAARGH... where to go....."
Some of the missions just say, go to that or that system..... "what? Where the heck is that.. omg I cant find it"... remove mission.
Or "patroll the Kassar sector".... where heck is kassar sector....
It is like saying, "go patrol in Kautokeno." Do you even know what country it is in?
It is like the map and mission is hating me and are trying to make it as hard as posible for me to find out where it is and how I get there.
Damne. All I have to do today is to have a GPS in my car and VOLA, I can find any freaking place in the world. AND go there. Why cant you do it the same here in Star Trek?
IMO, every mission in the list should have a button marked, "Map". When pushing that button, the map will open up, and centre on the system or area where the mission is taking place.
I do not have a star fleet captain education or 10 years of navigation education. Im just a sorry young boy of 33 years old sitting home. Why must I use hours to remember whole maps and names? Should be more easy then this.
And the missions them self. You should be able to arrange them different, like in what order you tuck them or got them. Or just alphabetic. Just an arange icon on the top.
And the mission should be more updated when you get trough sections of them. Some people hate to read a whole book every time something happens just to be able to finish the mission.
So, does anyone know how I can get around this problem? The game is really nice and I like it, but this two things are ruining my experience of this game.
Go to the Starfleet Academy forum page and there is a discussion stickied there that includes a basic map that I recommend you download that includes most of the sector labels as they appear in game. It comes in handy every now and then.
The galactic map ('M' key, select second button on the top) shows all the sectors, sector blocks, and many of the major locations in the game. (Memory Alpha, starbases, etc.)
If you're in sector space, you can also call up the system list (3rd button on the top of the map display) and double-click your destination from there to set your course.

i know the feeling
the map is a mess of names and lights and transparenicies- and- a grid?
i can appreciate filling sector space up with stuff to keep it visually active
however, the result is visual chaos, followed by written jargon confusion- sector space? what is that?
you get to know it by flying around and using it all the time- but you can zoom in to at least click the location
