One of my many issues. There was no reason for Rear Admiral rank. There is no example of a Admiral being in active command of a ship. The few time it did happen it as a tempary thing. At the end of the story or show they were quicky removed for command of the ship.
These "ranks" only existed in the TOS era, after that they were never used again. I guess that's why they are notused in game.

Secondly fleet captain and commodore are a position not a rank. A fleet captain (historically) is the chief of staff of an admiral and a commodore is a titel bestowed on a captain temporarily to command a squadron. When his mission is completed he's just a normal captain again.

I absolutely agree, Captain should have been the max level in this game (with the title of Fleet Captain or Commodore placed on you possibly). Cryptic should have left the Admiral ranks for a possible expansion in a few years were you can take command of fleet of NPC ships or Captain and lower ranked player ships.
This is starting to remind me of Star Wars on line were in any give town you see countless Jedi running around, in STO there are way too many Admirals doing stuff on their own or even worse 5 Admirals teamed up doing missions.
For me this was probably number 47 on the list of bone headed decisions by Cryptic.
Yeah, maxing out as a Rear Admiral this early in a game.....that was Kirk in the first movie. He wasn't too thrilled with being an admiral either .
So basically, we are doing 20+ years worth of ranking in X amount of months? Figure about 22 years old for an ensign (18 or so Y/O + 4years of Starfleet acadamy), Kirk was the youngest captain at 30ish, most probably not until they are late 30's/early 40's.
I know Picard was a Captain for a VERY long time, from the Stargazer to the Enterprise-D. My books are old, so it might have been changed, but the Stargazer mission was 22 years long, plus the Enterprise tour....30 years or so at Captain? I'm not sure if he was the captain of the Stargazer the entire 22 years though.
So basically, we are playing (if we were Kirk for instance) from his first assignment to TMP?
I for one think Captain should have been the max rank. The could even stretch out the ranks further with brevet/acting ranks, done all the time in major wars. For example you are really a Lt. but acting as a Lt. Commander, definetly a cut above a typical Lt., but not really a Lt. Commander, though their actions have earned them recognition. After a while (more XP in game), the rank could be made official. Granted it is stretching credibility having so many acting/brevet types around....but a lot less so than all the rear admirals as it is currently.
Edit: Really there should be a Lt. junior grade and full Lt. as well (first and second Lt. in the Army) instead of just a Lt.. That rank right there would have capped us at Captain.

makes no sense
spock told kirk being an admiral sux
people cap here and get bored- why? admiral
what does an admiral do? give orders and sit around?
the cryers for content will never be satisfied-skip them - they need to delete content and reorganize

Lieutenant(junior grade).... Ensign
is what the wiki us navy ranks show
negating admiral ranks
could also have demotions
for people that attack 7 vs1 in pvp or die all the time
they get a coward demotion or something
That doesn't sound like the typical coward......:p:D
