I've never made a post on these forums before so forgive me if I've not checked the right areas to see if there is already a thread on this. (I have been doing so for the last hour but nothing conclusive found.)
Basically, I can play STO for about 30 mins before I lose my internet connection. Game closes, I fire up my browser to look for a solution, but can't connect to anything. Can't repair my connection, resetting the comp does not work, I have to physically turn off the router at the socket, then turn it back on so I can get access to the internet. (I'm wireless btw, the router is downstairs. And no, I can't use a wire, it sucks, I know.)
I'm really not sure what other info I can give to help you out. I play a few other MMO's and they all work fine when in use, this problem only occurs when I play STO.
Any help is welcome, I would hate to cancel my sub simply because of this issue.
Alundo.
Certain 2 wire modem/routers can not handle the small packet streans the game uses and locks up. I beleive then need afirm upgrade and possible a configuration change. It might be a case with you (sounds like it from the symtoms)

The problem is either your ISP or your router it sounds like.
Does the router still work on computers/devices physically wired into your router when this happens? If so, it might be the router that's causing the issue.

Firewalls - if you run a software firewall (Zonealarm, Norton, McAfee, etc) or are behind a hardware firewall (Linksys router, CheckPoint, Cisco ASA, etc) make sure Star Trek Online.exe and GameClient.exe are allowed to connect to the Internet and your PC can connect outbound on the ports STO needs.
The game will need outbound TCP 80, 443, and 7000 through 7500 open. Note: All connections are TCP based from your PC to Cryptic so you do not need to port forward on your router.
The Cryptic data center IPs you'll connect to on TCP 7000 - 7500 are 208.95.184.01 through 208.95.187.254. The proxy servers are outside of this range.
If STO takes out the connection to the router for all devices, then nevermind the ports, I'd call your ISP... if your broadband modem is dropping connection on certain use, either the modem may be faulty, or something is up on their end.

Try running the Cryptic network connectivity tool http://files.champions-online.com/nettest.exe and see if anything fails.
