If they made a Borg faction

I was just thinking about this because of another post I saw. Odds are with a Borg faction you will still have a bridge crew. I thought it would be interesting if our bridge officers would be NPCs that we assimilate through missions and then designate either engineering, science, or tactical. I feel it would be a lot more Trek like instead of having the Borg Queen give us BOs or us having to requisition them.

Its been said either Borg or Romulan will be playable. I have a feeling it will be Romulan only because they are one of the top most famous races/faction in Star Trek. I'll welcome anything though.

If they made a Borg faction I would quit, but not before leading one of the biggest complain campaigns this forum has ever seen, it would make the Council fiasco look like a super happy fun fest and plety of people would help me out.

And I would be right there with you along with one of the largest fleets in the game all of which are anti borg and plan to be very vocal if Cryptic ever goes that route.

I just don't see them wanting to deal with that much strife on the forums.

Why? The Borg aren't any more powerful then any other race. I blow up probes, spheres, and cubes all day long by myself so it's not because they'd be too powerful to play against. You not liking them isn't reason enough to not have them. Still, I do agree that Romulans are first and that Borg should be one of the last to make Faction.

I can't speak for anyone else but for me Borgs are Drones that cannot be reasoned with..Once you take that away and make them individuals you take their teeth there scariness and you just have "Hugh"

What does that have to do with them being an interesting Faction, though? A Faction is a collection of Classes, BOs, Ships, and Equipment utilized to go from 1 to 45 - hopefully via a series of missions. As I said in another thread about this, it's not as though most people are role-playing Vulcans or Ferengi when playing them. They're playing Federation to go from ENS 1 to RA5 not to pretend they have free will and the ability to tell Starfleet they're not going to save the Azuria. :)

They have a society with a leader, counselors, and sub-leaders. Their goal is to assimilate everything around them. How is that different then the Klingon's goal to take territory/technology by force? The Borg, far more then the Klingons, should be primarily a PvP race as their only real goal is to absorb everyone into their collective - and to defeat the hated Undine. :)

Where does Borg come from now? did anybody ask for Borg?

i thought the general idea was Romulans and then later Cardassia+Dominion
and then maaaaybe Ferengi or Borg or something completeley diffrent (undine?)

    ...but Borg?

Dont we have enough liberated Borg and Borg BO's in the game allready?

The one thing that made Borg so good in TNG was that they were rarely used but everytime they showed up they were DOOM.
Voyager made them uncool by using them too much and by overusing the Queen and making her to much of an Leader.

There were about five or six people that went on a pro borg campaign pre beta they flooded the forums with post concerning a Borg player faction, and those of us who are against it think that the same tactic will be the only way to keep them out.

IMO the Borg are something to be feared. I still get chills when thinking of the STNG episode "Parallels" when Riker is on the bridge of the failing Enterprise saying the Borg are everywhere and the Federation has been wiped out.
A single cube should be powerful enough to wipe out countless hordes of ships like they did at Wolf 359.
I honestly thought they dumbed down the Collective in Voyager which is a big reason why I hated that show with a passion.

I hope to see the Dominion, Cardassians and Romulans as playable factions but not the Borg, I wouldn't quit the game or anything like some of the other posters have mentioned I just simply wouldn't play out one. However I'm sure many others would. :)

Why would they, or anyone, quit over a Faction? They just wouldn't be buying the Faction Expansion Pack. Nothing in the game would change for them in any way.

If you don't think that a huge group of people aren't role playing you are either playing the game totally by yourself or playing the game with your eyes closed. One of the reasons I play STO besides the fact that I amd a die hard Trekker is this game has more RPers in it than any other MMO I have ever been part of including second life.

And if we make all factions just skins and a path to get to point A to point B them we lose the flavor of the game and might as well be playing a spreadsheet or eve which is worse.

i definatly hope that we don't get a borg faction in a loong, long, time.
They and the undine are something of the most powerfull out there, they should be something for the future.
cardasians and romulans should be things to come first if any.

not to mention all the ship types we still don't have.
like vulcan ships and andorian ships.

Please don't tell me how I'm playing the game. I'm in the game 4-8 hours every day and I seldom see anyone in Zone Chat or any of the 6 channels I'm subscribed to role-playing anything.

What do you think a Faction is in this game? A mission statement, Classes, BO's, and all the various items to get them to max level and beyond. Don't fool yourself into thinking the Klingon Faction is any different then the Federation one. The only real difference between the two is mission statement. That would be the same for the Borg, Romulans, or any other Faction made for the game.

Yes this exactly! I hated the Pleather wearing emo-Borg in voyager I would pray nightly that they would assimilate Chekotay and Janeway and put the Doctor in charge as he was one of the few characters with any...character.

That philosophy right there is why most MMO's have no soul today...thank you for WoW.

IF they do make the Borg a playable faction maybe they should be only unlocked by high level characters.

Kind of like you get to end game then and then have the option of becoming assimilated or something, taking all of your skills etc... and then begin your Borg career path.

I've been a ST fan for 40 years but I don't fool myself into believing this game is anything more then it is. YMMV.

But that would be like part of the Klingon situation: unbalanced population numbers because you have to level another faction first.

There really isn't any way they could make them that wouldn't cause widespread hatred. It would be the Jedi and NGE of SWG all rolled into one.

I agree however at least starting as a high level Borg would make sense since they should be more powerful than a typical low level humanoid.

Didn't WOW do something like that with the Death Knight? (I don't play WOW so forgive me if I am wrong)

Yes the Death N00b. Hero classes promised to be a whole new way for higher level players to achieve something new and exciting..it turned into the biggest LOL ever.

No, not if the were liberated, autonomous Borg (i.e. not collective).

They'd be terrible at ranged combat (Borg are essentially melee zombies - IN SPACE!). It could still work - a faction that fights the collective and gets mistakenly attacked by every other species. I could see faction-netural sector blocks going through borg space (like voyager) where players could try and make it back to the Sol System - as KDF, Fed, or Independent Borg ship.

That would be more like a MACO career track than another faction. It's not like Death Knights compete against either the Alliance or Horde. :)

Death Knight ias a Hero class that seems to have its own story. at least to start. I've not really played one much. Sucha thing might work I Suppose but the Death Knight isn't its own factions. It easily could have been but WoW didn't take it that route.

As a faction. There are a couple ways to put them in gaem seperate from the Collective. Hugh and Unimatrix Zero. I would be shocked to see them added before Romulans and Cardasian/Dominion.

Ahh the old 'borg faction' debate rears it's ugly head again...

About the only idea i ever liked for them would require some insane genius to code and balance properly, the type of person who could write up a unified theory of everything on a napkin during their lunch break, and that was having a borg faction play out like an RTS where you control a group of faceless drones or ships on a grander scale rather than the more avatar centric style of play we have now.

There'd be no coffee and donuts down at the borg bar with your mates after a night of pwning klinks and feddies in this style of game, which for me is the main concern.

Anyways with the amount of opposition this gets every time it's brought up compared to other factions i don't think we'll see it any time soon.

The borg would be such a silly faction. nothing about them would fit the nature of the game

do we go to the queen to get promoted?
    do we get facepalm emotes
do some crafting in our spare time between regenerations

maybe, if they where a break away faction with their own identities and ships like we saw in the TNG episode descent then i could get my head around it but even then nothing about it fits, but if its the real borg within the hive then it would be stupid, and kill any kind of immersion

as a novelty it would be fun just to fly a cube but please, please dont do a borg faction
