The Music....

You know the STO music is okay, there is some few great scores from trek series and movies but way too often we get that lame Opra singer wailing what we need is more music from the clasic series like

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0KW3MUeiH0&feature=related

Or Music from TNG like

My point is the Music desperately needs to be more evocative of trek and now it just isn't.

Yes I agree with this I am really disappointed in the music of STO..it really isn't trek to me..right now I know that there is a project that is attempting to replace the current music with actual trek ambient music..I don't know how or even if it will work, but they really shouldn't have to go to this extreme...Cryptic should go back in and make the music more trek..if it is a cost issue offer up a alternate music pack on the C store.

Yes I'm sort of disapointed to as for trek games music I really enjoyed the first star fleet command games music was pretty trekky... But id definetly die for somthing like the battle theme from Amok time.

lol yeah it was perfect for TOS!
but they did not even use that style in the TMP Movies, Jerry Goldsmith is PWNAGE!
I even started to like the stuff from that new guy that Abrams did use, though the XI OST has a lot of useless silent parts... did edit some of them for my STO shuffle but they fit good for the romulan Sectors.

Dude the original soundtrack rocks I mean how can you tell you are in battle without http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyhhFzE5O5U

As for the link you posted Yes that exactly! but we need more of that , and winamp dosen't follow the game tempo like a background sound track.

Yes as a little girl I use to hide behind my Dad and watch the Doomsday machine and the music terrified me..I will be sooo disappointed if I come across the planet killer in game and that music isn't there.
    :(

I also have the soundtrack from the new movie (OK, every movie and series), Michael Giacchino, did a great job with it.

I don't think there has ever been an MMO in the history of MMOs with tolerable music. Sometimes I run my Youtube play list for STO music that has scores 1,2,3,9,8 in that order. its mostly fitting for Klingon play.

You would be surprised how often my Winamp gets the exact right music for the right moment!
That Borg Soundtrack in the video... NOT edited... LIVE random Shuffle!

Sometimes it is scary how good winamp hits the spot... and if it is completeley wrong, well there is still the NEXT button on my Keyboard ;-)

    oh and just for reference

this is exactly what i listen to while playing STO:

The devs are aware we want real trek music in game. Problem is it would basically force Cryptic to go into the music business since there's various artists that own the music rights.

This is a possible alternative that Coderanger might look into:

In several previous threads about that same subject I think Coderanger stated that dealing with the coding for WMP was problematic, and was not a priority.

I use Winamp on vista 64, and it works just fine, and the music player in game works with it flawlessly

WindowsMediaPlayer is a bulky system hog, why wait months when you could be playing your own music now?

If you have anything other than a basic 101 keyboard, it should have controls for media player on-board, if you have plenty of system resources to spare, you can just use the keyboard controls.

But all the cool kids are using Winamp now, more features, less resources, more bang for the buck.

uhm Winamp allways worked on all keyboards with Media Controls for me....
at least with all my Logitech Keyboards.

It even can do shortcuts if you dont have Media Control Keys.

Go to Winamp preferences > General Preferences > Global Hotkeys
there is everything you might ever need.

Nope. Not talking about WMP or Winamp. In the thread I linked we're discussing having the game engine play MP3s directly from the STO folder, triggered on events like entering ground combat. It's customizable in-game music... it would be up to us to procure whatever we wanted.

The problem with the current music player is it cannot do playlists based on your game activity.

Another missing soundtrack was the erie music of the Guardian of Forever. When I saw it for the first time (in game) without that dramatic erie music, it was very underwhelming.

Music does make the show....(and game!)

Actually that is a viable solution...if we could choose what MP3's to play when Like have a group of forum or five random MP3 that we choose for Ground Combat space combat, Traveling/ambient Music. Though that sounds like a lot of coding. Course …they could just get permission from Jerry Goldsmith to use his music and that would make about 98% of the fans happy.

Ahhh... sorry, i followed the link but only read briefly and did not follow the second link.

That would be nice if it could be done automatically.

I already have several playlists (ground, ground combat, space, space combat, funny, and scenic)

I just switch playlists (programmable keyboard) when appropriate.

To me, the music sets the mood for what I am doing at the time, it is a must. I am orchestra nerd...

But I cheat sometimes, I have one track from "The Black Hole" and another from "Battle Beyond the Stars" in those playlists, they aren't Trek, but they are very dramatic.

Yep, that's the idea of it. You could put a number of songs in your STO\Space Combat\ folder and the engine would randomly choose a MP3 from there to play when you're fighting in space.

I suspect some coding is already in game to play different songs based on your game activity but that's something Coderanger has to look into when he has time. We have no promises but he thought this idea was one of the better more feasible ones. Largely because he would not have to mess with coding playlists on WMP or Winamp API, etc.

That would be sweet but devs stated they don't want to go into the music business. And pretty sure they don't have any budget to buy the music. We're stuck with that damn opera singer for now LOL.

Although I think the sound in STO is generally good, I hate that opera singer. Please consider

A: consider adding more ambient mustic
B: allowing us to play our own tracks with the right triggers

    Thank you!
