Capture & Hold

Hello,

i really have to write this thread for some reasons. At the moment i play a lot Capture & Hold and i'm surprised how many Rear Admirals didn't understand the basics of this game. For example, i talked to one guy who always stayed cloaked and didnt help to capture some bases. He told me that he stays cloaked all the time and only decloak when he's needed in a confrontation with the enemy....
There are also many other examples, also that some people seem that they don't know that you have to stay a while at the bases to capture them. Wait until they got completely red (or blue).

Capture & Hold is not Arena!

It seems that many people have no interest in capturing. I've played a lot of matches where really noone of both sides cared about... So in the beginning it was a direct Klingon Ball vs. Fed Ball confrontation, and noone cared about the bases that were still neutral.

Try to focus on capturing, not only on battle. Also the cloak on Klingon side can be so helpfull for this game. And i am NOT saying: DO NOT BATTLE. All i want to say is try to get a feeling for tactics. Sometimes it is better to ignore a battle and capture a completely unguarded base, for example.

Always have an eye on the WHOLE arena and decide well considered where you could be most needed and help out... because the guys with 0 influence will lose in the end, but i think you all know THAT!

    I completely agree with you.

The only problem is that right now there is no real threat to losing. You lose the match and yet you still "win" by getting points and merits and such. If they made it to where you wouldn't get much of anything if you lost, then it might change.

As it is, I'm one of them that try to capture and hold, but more often than not, it's usually just me or one other person. If there is no incentive to capturing the points other than to say "I win", then I don't see many people trying to play the map as it should be played. At least not yet.

I have to admit that I use this game type to test out different tactics since sometimes the targets are more distracted than in other maps. I've always tried to capture when opportunities present themselves but sometimes those big battles, or even little skirmishes are just too hard to pass up. It's easy to get carried away and lose track of time; even the score.

I think that as far as PVP goes, the winners should get 90% of the reward and the losers get 10%.

This would apply for all maps.

This would be some kind of incentive to win. The way it is right now, it is more like 55% / 45%.

There is not much difference or reason to care about winning or losing.

Also, if you make the dailies dependent on WINNING the battle,...instead of just participating,.. then I think that would be good as well.

You don't get credit for not beating your patrol missions,... why get credit for not beating your PVP???

Just my thoughts, but not necessarily the correct answer.

It is pretty annoying to be the only person on the team who cares more about capturing the flags than fighting, especially when I'd have a better chance at winning the fights than anyone else on my team. I used to love SalvOp, but what ruined it is the fact that you now have to orbit a flag for about twenty hours before fully capturing it. I'm sure there was some sort of explanation for the change, but it still took a lot of the fun out of the game. Now that capping is a hellish chore I'm not surprised that no one on the map actually goes for the objectives. I've taken to capping one flag and just sitting there, for many uneventful minutes, until a stray K finally shows up. Earning those medals used to be great fun, win or lose. Now it's becoming a bit of a chore, win or lose. As JC Denton would say, "What a shame."

As for the medal distribution, so long as queue times are the way they are we need every possible incentive to keep people signing up for PVP. If that means rewarding the losers almost as much the winners, that's fine. If the "losers should get nothing" people had their way we would be lucky to get one PVP match a day. PVP is daunting enough as it is for new/less skilled players, the last thing we need to do is take away their material incentives for showing up.

It used to be fun on salvage but now it is that no one want's to team up or one side has a efficient team and the other are just fools. For example solo players have no tactics at all,wtf you need a sensor array flag when it is so far away from others,3 flags are enough and when you capture them just defend them,no need for 5flags.Why players fly to the edge of the map chasing ony 1 player???Why does one escort alone goes to fight enemy squad?

Capturing a point takes way too long. It is way more fun to just engage the enemy rather than babysitting a point for minutes.

Couple weeks ago - team formed up that was just awesome. Two ships when capturing points, while the rest of the team just kept engaging the Klink-ball in one area. Sure...the two ship team didn't get much in the way of DPS damage, only trashing the few Klinks that ranged out to challenge them.

Excellent tactic with enough ships. They actually used team-chat!

Best part - whiny kling-noob (who had noob in his name as well - extremely mouthy, and extremely poor player) started whining that "all the Feds were doing was tying them up in a ball, while two ships captured the points!! His whining was just funny.

Yeah - he was one of the ships that tried to challenge the Fed capture group. Think we would blow him away before we could even capture a point fully.

As a Klingon, I have never had a problem in Capt and hold maps. Pug Kling grps pretty much know what they are suppose to do. Its funny actually watching the Fed ball, a few klingon keep the noob feds busy and the rest of us eaily handle the capt and hold. Your posts for the most part are directed towards the feds.

    +1

realy not fun sitting on a point for over 2 minutes in a 10min game. that means one point could take me about 20% of my gametime to capture. its rediculous and just plain more fun to go blow up some klingons. who cares if i lose the match. il get slightly les reward than the victor (like i need anymore reward, already at 1800 mk X medals and nothing to spend them on)

pvp these days for me is no longer about getting good stuff, its just about going in for some fun. very un MMO if u ask me.

On the other hand the more ships at the point the faster the capture. 2 minutes is for a single ship fully capturing a point alone.

Hack and hold is fun, although I personally would find it more fun that we can have a version of this game in a tachyon nebula or whatever so cloaks are disabled.

Erm what is un MMO about going in for fun? Games should be played for fun. Or am I missing the sarcasm tags?

there was no sarcasm, what i meant with it being un MMO (the gearing part or having something to do thats worth wile) is these days the only reason for me to do anything in this game is just pick something to shoot and do so. this in my opinion should not be a paid service but a one time deal. it looks to much like counter strike or something like that. u enter a map for one reason only and thats to score as much kills in a map/round as u can and be the victor. in an MMO especialy a button click one like this one u should have somthing more. that something more is usualy leveling, gearing, crafting. i
take wow for instance, ive played that game nonstop for 3 years, but today there ase still numerous ways in wich to improve myself, mostly gear but even in crafting there is stuff for me to do. (no im not going back to wow, after three years ive had it) :)
in this MMO u level to max in a week, gear to the max in 2 more weeks and im not even going to start about crafting here. so the only thing left to do after 3-4weeks is play counter strike/STO: pick a map, kill everything u see and be the victor. rinse and repeat. ill be the same in a year as i am today, just like counter strike.
