I would like an honest, non-fanboi answer, are there people that cheat in ST:O?

I asked because I have seen some odd things. Today, in a warzone (Ker'Ret?) I saw a Kilngon fighting a Borg cube, so naturally I go in. He was 1 level higher than me (LTC 4). With my first volley, his shields were down and he hit 10%,,,then nothing, he killed me in about 20 secs, and he never moved from 10%. My torpedoes as well as the borg cube, did nothing. After he killed me, he went back to work on the Borg.

In PvE, I've seen a guy 2 levels below me come in a team mission and fly around 1 shot killing every NPC, then he said "Your Welcome " and zoned out. Very weird.

I don't really plan on PvP'ing, I'd just like to know.
Thanks

....vids of ti happening? screenshots with combat log ?
just what you think you saw?
I would recommend if you wish to get serious answers provide serious evidence of these happenings.
I will say that there are lots of people that think someone is cheating even though they do not understand game mechanics. SO they will resort to calling exploits / hacks / cheaters ect....
People thought Beam target sub-systems was cheating and was an exploit and abusive and was OP
    to those scrubs i present
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96sM2rashXs

we are working vids to show that VM and SNB are not OP but in fact just a simple ignorant perception of scrub players that lack the capability to play the game better.

If you wish to take PVP serious then get a good team and stick with them. This game has enough scrub players that go into 5v5 maps with solo builds and head into CnH maps thinking doing DPS means they win the game.

strictly speaking, i would be extremely surprised to find people actually hacking the game. perhaps he used RSP and you weren't watching his shields?

also, its not surprising to have people kill stuff in a few seconds. based on your level I would say that you still have some growing room, Don't worry about it too much until you decide to get serious in PvP.

also, don't let akumarev get ya down. I think he just misinterpretted the meaning behind this thread.

It's fairly obvious that there are hackers/cheaters in PVP. They're not overly common, but their rare quality is what makes them so easy to notice. I've had people decloak and kill me in under one second. Literally, actually, under one second, with my shields at full. I'm well aware that a good Klingon can decloak, pop a few abilities at once and mow down one shield facing and then your hull in between 5 and 10 seconds if you're not quick to move, but the people in question used no abilities and it was over in under a second. These things are rare, which is why it's not a huge deal to me and I haven't noticed it "ruining" PVP altogether, but it is out there.

As for the more strident replies to this thread and others like it, it's funny how people who claim to be the best at PVP are also the best at scaring new people away from PVP (and then they complain about the queue times). If I didn't find PVP so fun, win or lose, I'd probably stay as far away as possible from the attitudes of some here, who find it appropriate to speak down to others just because they're good at the PVP in a new, casual, unrefined game that isn't at all PVP-centric.

    ty all for the replies.

As for video evidence? I just asked if people cheated, and described a few odd occurrences I saw. They very well may have not been cheating, but they were very odd.

This is a computer game, so having people finding a way to cheat is normal. I've never played a single MMO that didn't have a way to cheat, but generally the developer catches it and fixes it. No biggie. I was just wondering if it was a known thing in this game, that's all.

(Even the giant Warcraft had a bout with people "speed" hacking, and after Blizz figured it out, quite a few people were banned from the game. People like to believe that games can't be TRIBBLE, be we live in the real world :) lol )

They are certainly overpowered. VM not so much since it's counterable, current SNB on the otherhand is. Even a scrub can use VM+SNB effectively, requiring no skill whatsoever, hence why they're overpowered.

I'm thinking that Cryptic should put something in their code that if a hack is detected it completely nerfs the program on that PC permanately so only a reformat can fix LOL.

truth is most people use the combo wrong and trhey SNB and VM the same target like scrubs that they are.....
Sorry but we dealt with it many times including a Klingon premade with 4 SNB and still won.\

Thats not cheating, thats just a very good dps that knows what bo skills and ship builds work the best. Like you said, "These things are rare", yup, very good players are rare. He throws up a couple damage buffs on himself, pops tss and brings your facing shields down and pops rapid fire and high yield 3 and your toast in less than a second.

You two have to be Klangs.

Regardless if it's not cheating IT IS NOT STAR TREK!

How fun is a game that you have to be an ubernerd to learn every trick of the game to last more than a few minutes?

How many times was the Enterprise instagibbed?

    That would be none.

    Wellllll...

Technically, you had power to your shields, as evidenced at the end of your video, your shield power was at around 40 or so :D.

That being said, I have to applaud your team work. That was a good match, I remember it well, I was the guy who was going toe to toe with you in the Madison BTW.

I zoned in, and got wasted by you guys in no time flat. :D It was obvious that you were all in a fleet, I tried to round my pick up team into some semblance of order, but... oh well.

i'm a fed thank you very much, you don't need to know every trick in the game to survive more than a few seconds against most players.

and plenty of star trek ships get instagibbed throughout the history of star trek. I would like to point out that you are NOT the enterprise.

If you'd have read what I wrote before replying to it you'd see that I did state that I know very well that a good K can kill an unprepared Fed in a few seconds. But not in tier 2/3 in literally half a second with no abilities or buffs showing up whatsoever. I've faced off against plenty of talented Ks and I know what they're capable of and I respect them for it. Because of that, I know the difference between being owned by a talented K and being hack-killed by a cheater. The situations I mentioned weren't rare as in "great player with spectacular talent", they were rare as in "clearly not remotely possible given the game mechanics".

in t2+ you can still score crits that instagib people hull. particularly with quantum torpedos and a little luck.

I'm aware of that too, but I'm talking without torps, just one measly cannon hit. And I don't mean one salvo, I mean one shield impact and death in under half a second. But people can believe it or not, I don't have screenshots or logs or anything, I just know what I saw. I'm not railing on about cheating ruining the game or anything, I'm just saying I've noticed it on a small handful of occasions. I still find PVP fun, I'm not saying one faction or the other is to blame, I'm just mentioning to the OP that I've noticed that cheaters do exist in the game, though they're exceptionally rare and don't have any long-term impact on enjoyment.

I can't say that I'd know a hax0rz if I saw one. I have to admit that I've felt pretty used, beat up, thrown around and cheated more times than I care to recall since I started PvPing. Suppose a lot of that just comes from not fully understanding all of the abilities and when you think you've seen it all someone pulls something else out of the bag.

Although I can't imagine anyone coming clean on here about personally cheating anymore than I'm inclined to believe the "he said she said he saw" crowd, it is a valid question. That is, just so long as it isn't used as a crutch to steady a bruised ego.

cheats, yes.. not really hacks but exploit, especially in ground pvp... feds will switch sides to red(klingon) and leave you by yourself 1v9. examples of this also occur in space too..but less frequent.

i have heard reports of redteam feds even running through shield barriers, rifle butting numerous people with each swing from across the room(had it happen to me) and switching sides on the fly (traditional way used to be spawning into map while dead to have a chance at switching)

but then again pvp ground is total cheese ball 50% of the time anyways.. the ground warzone is infested with klinks that sit in a circle around the fed respawn.. go away make a sandwich, 10mins later .. still there.. they sit there, and dance, flip coins, butt heads while they wait for your dead body to respawn(kind of needs a life behaviour).. heck i even turned on an episode of mythbusters on another monitor and they stood there at the ready the entire 45mins .. so i just beamed out.

it's just the nature of Pvp,, most players are just like you and me.. but 10-20% have something wrong in their heads, they have to exploit.. exploit a skill, exploit a respawn, exploit anything they can so they are "superior" then you.. even if you're eating a turkey on rye and feeling sorry for them :D ..LMAO

    cheaters=yes, exploiters=mega-yes, in pvp=only yes.

some people on these forums realy need to learn some people skill and less learning of playing games. it gets them so wound up they feel the need to lash out at everone. ffs leave the guy be. hes low level with little understanding of the game. who the **** cares if you are uber.

also SNB+VM is way overpowered. having the need of 5 people cleansing you of it is not a viable counter: first of i was informed that this was a casual gamers game. so if u NEED an uber team to even be alowed to play this game in a proper way means the ability is not right. no counter what so ever makes that an overpowered move in my book. im glad they will be making changes to the move, i think it will be better.

to the op, i doubt youve seen anyone cheat. the things ive done would easily be considered cheating by lesser players. and im just good, not great. so a great player prob does the freakiest of things even i can only dream of.

I am not saying it is inconceivable but there may also be other explanations.... I have done a lot of PvP (I have 2 x Fed Admirals and 2 x Klingon BGs) and I have never felt someone was cheating when I got clobbered.

I was once accused of cheating when "I" decloaked and killed someone super fast... however what I explained to the guy was there were actually two of us (he had been hit with jam sensors and never ever saw my team mate)...

He had actually been clobbered by two Klingons (one Raptor + One BoP) at close range who had popped High Yield Torps III + Target Shield Sub System III right before we cloaked for our Ventrillo coordinated attack run towards him and then popped Attack Pattern Omega III + AP Alpha III + Cannon Rapid Fire whilst still cloaked right before we made the attack ...

We then uncloaked and let him have it at under 5 km both from directly astern... He exploded extremely quickly and was convinced it was a cheat (he started howling in Zone) until I explained to him what had actually happened to him... he was amazed to discover there had been two of us as he only ever saw me.

So I am not saying I know for a fact you are wrong but there may well be a more prosaic explanation.

Uh yea...there are those who are using 3rd party programs to cheat on STO. It becomes obvious when someone pops 6 science teams on themselves with no team members nearby to do so.

As for the evidence, last I checked, Cryptic does not want you to post evidence that shows a player cheating. They will edit your post with the "Violation of Policy" thing. Best thing to do is just report the guy to a GM; they'll handle it.

So ultimately to answer your question; yes there are some cheaters out there. Unless it is blatantly obvious such as seeing someone science team them selves 6 times to defeat 5 different debuffs in less than 5 seconds, chances are you just are running into the overpowered abilities currently in PvP.
