The patcher uses port 7255 to download the patch files. So if something is blocking or filtering that port it will slow the patching. If the blocking is being cause by ISP or some bad routing using the launcher option to patch using proxy may speed it up .

The game required ports 7000 - 7500 to be open. not blocked or filetered.

you can download Nettest and run it to check a sample of the ports range to see if there is some blocking.

    Go to http://files.champions-online.com/nettest.exe
Download this file and run it
A command prompt should appear running the test automatically

For good connections , column 1 and 3 have values around 500 kb/sec (outgoing/incoming), column 2 has values around 20 kb/sec (transfer rate).

Hi, Firstly, thanks for the swifty reply :)

i have donloaded the test and ran it. the box has come up and has listed ports 80 and 443 twice, then it lsited port 7255 which u mentioned earleyer, it came up with 'Time Out' then its done it again and came with VERY low numbers all 3 columns are single digit numbers
    'Port 7255: 3KB/sec 1KB/sec 7KB/sec 500'
, does this mean that the peoblem is likly my connection/setup?

    Thanks

Yes it means somthing is blocking the ports need. It could be your firewall, antivirus, netgaurd, windefender, netnanny (or some other net monitoring control software) .
It could be your router , or your ISP. If you are on a university network it is likely the university is blocking .

need to do things in steps. first would to make sure your firewall and antivirus has the launcher.exe and gameclient.exe as exptions to allow net acces.
if no working then next would be to shutdown the firewall anti virus. then try game. (some antivirus you may have to uninstall as it may still leave componets in memory blocking the game even if it is disabled.)
next would be to check your router/modem have ports 7000-7500 unblocked (open) you will have to check your router/modem help or manual on how to do that as it different for each model.
