It would seem that you have no video drivers or the wrong ones installed. Find out what card is in your PC then update the drivers for it and make sure you have the latest version of Directx installed.

I agree with Zoya. Either your drivers are corrupt or not installed properly.

You should visit the webpage of your GPU developer (AMD or nVidia most likeley) and get the most recent driver, and if it still dosen't work, visit Microsoft's homepage, and download the DirectX package.

Note that STO may to some degree require DX11 wich is only accessable to Vista and 7. If you have XP you should have no problems running STO but not with the same detail level as DX11 compatible systems.

Actually it could be either the graphics drivers or directx drivers (I'm leaning towards the latter, given the error).
So I suggest reinstalling both of those just to be sure, and if there's later versions available then be sure to grab those.

    * graphics card drivers - you can get the latest ones from the site of the manufacturer of your gfx card, or if you have a laptop you'll need to get the drivers from your laptop manufacturer's site

    * directx 9.0c - yes even if you have DX10 on Vista or DX11 on Win 7, you will still need to install the latest version of DX9 because DX10 and DX11 don't include DX9.

Normally software that requires DX9 will come with a redistributable that will install the latest updates for you, but sometimes such installers can mess up, or in your case it's possible the beta installer didn't include the latest updates that STO retail needs to run (and if you don't play a lot of other games the likelihood of your dx9 being up to date is small).

That's why I advise grabbing the latest dx9 redistributable from the Microsoft site and reinstalling from that.

Btw for the poster above: STO doesn't use DX11 or DX10 graphics, only DX9.0c.

If you are using Ndivia tools there is a problem with thier Forceware network access manager . This is a known issue initializing OLE/COM before STO can run. It is installed with Nvidia chipset drivers, not graphics card drivers. Look for Forceware network access manager as an installed program and uninstall it.

You will find the following error in the errors.log file:
    100223 08:21:20 1 [1]: OLE failed to initialize: 80010106
100223 08:21:20 2 [1]: Shutting down from fatal error "OLE failed to initialize: 80010106"

I recently received the same error. I am releived to hear I am not the only one receiving this error. On a related note: I noticed that the AMD website released new driver updates for the Radeon graphics cards. I may have to download that.
