At this time I am no longer able to play star trek online. While I have been in since closed beta, as well as a lifetime subscriber, Ever since the season one patch has been released, every time i log into STO, I am disconnected anywhere between 60 seconds to three minutes into the game. My firewall has all ports listed on the net test opened, all other online parts of games i own appear to work, and nothing has changed on my system in the last 90 days (back when STO was running smoothly on my computer). The online FAQ is completely barren regarding this issue, and upon calling phone support, it was discovered that Cryptic is not offering live phone support at this time, as per the recording. This is getting increasingly frustrating, since i have paid hundreds of dollars for the CE of the game as well as the subscription, only to find that i can no longer play.
You have a decent system. It's better than mine and I don't lag at all or get disconnected.
I would say that it is probably a problem with your NIC (Network Interface Card), your router or your ISP. To test this, I'd like you to open up a command prompt and type in: Ping google.com -t this will send continuous data to google and will receive a response. This will help you find out if it is Cryptic or not since most people blame Cryptic right away. Launch the game while you are doing the ping and see what happens. When you get kicked out of the game, press CTRL + C to stop the ping to google.com and then paste the results here so we can see them. Basically, if you're getting dropped packets then it's your ISP or Networking equipment.
Also I should mention that it even if you haven't changed your system setup at all in the last 90 days, your hardware can fail at any time. I got a rude awakening in this lesson 8 months ago when my modem decided to stop working and I felt like blaming my ISP when it was just my DSL modem the whole time.
Same problem, can't play. All other MMOs work perfect, it's not us. A lot of people are having the same problem. Very very very upset about this. I guess i will have to buy a new game (again) and actually play it.
I have been having the same issue over the last week.
I upgraded my systems video card and thought that might be an issue so went back to store and actually got a better card.. 9500 GT(no issues), 9800 GT(Issues), 250 GTS(still Issues). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game.
Reinstalled video drivers
Reinstalled directx drivers
I have the same problem. I log on and receive the message "can't create D3D device". I was able to play last night. Now I am starting to think it is either my internet connection or my video card.
Specs:
Dell Inspiron 530
Windows Vista 64-bit SP2
Intel Core 2 Duo
6 Gigabytes Ram
Radeon HD 4350 518 Mb DDR2 Ram (all drivers up to date)
Have any of you tried connecting yet via the US or EU proxy? If you're able to stay logged in while using one of those proxies then that could point to a general routing issue somewhere between you and the servers.
If it happens with the proxies as well then it could either be Cryptic's game servers or something very very close to their servers (like one or two hops away), but possibly not something they can directly control.
Given that this thread has only had a few replies I think it's more likely to be a routing issue somewhere as otherwise there'd have been more people complaining. I'll have a look and see if I'm affected by this issue as well...
It's not the proxy. I changed it a few times now and it does nothing. I was able to play for like ten minutes last night and that was the longest yet. I was actually able to complete a mission, but then I got disconnected. It's not even fun when it does work because the whole time I know any second I could be screwed. Like i said before, wow, eve, and other online games work amazingly.
Have tried downloading the nettest to check your ports. The game uses ports 7000-7500 and everytime you are changing maps you are getting a random post in that range. if a port is filtered or blocked you will disconnect.
For good connections, column 1 and 3 have values around 500 kb/sec (outgoing/incoming), column 2 has values around 20 kb/sec (transfer rate)
every game uses different ports , different packets format, different ips and routing. So playing one game has no value in comparing to another game because there too many different factors. it like saying I can get to work when I make a left turn on this road but on this other road the left turn does not work.
Also what is your network setup. wire /wireless using router what model and version of firmware, . what nic are you using and version of drivers all these can affect different packet differntly.
(like some 2 wire modems can not handle the small packet streams required for the game. they disconnect)
. Also on vista wireless connection, the normal network searching it does every 60 seconds can cause lag and disconnections

Your promp response would be greatly appreciated.
I was having this problem as well, except it was working fine last night before the maintenance and then I was d/c'ed every 10 seconds. It turned out that my router is having some problems, a Linksys, and I had to reset the router (the small button on the back). After that it was good.

That did it thanks. Or it was the maintenance they did right before I tried that. Right after I set up my ports I went to play and it was when they were fixing stuff. So who knows, maybe a bit of both.

Never mind. Still happening, I guess I just got lucky there for a little while. This is ********.

Nettest:
Go to http://files.champions-online.com/nettest.exe
Download this file and run it
A command prompt should appear running the test automatically
